Woodlands View Care Home, situated in Poplars, provides residential, nursing and nursing dementia care to older people in a kind and inclusive setting.

Each member of the team is dedicated to providing the kindest care to every resident. Prioritising dignity and choice, care services are designed to enhance residents' lives, empowering them to live as independently as possible safe in the knowledge that a caring team is always on hand.

The setting itself continues this trajectory, designed with wheelchair accessibility as well as many other amenities to promote independence, Woodlands View is a place which residents are proud to call home. Recently refurbished, the lovely sitting rooms are the perfect spot to relax, catch up on TV or enjoy the company of fellow residents. Meanwhile, the delightful landscaped garden and patio offers a great alternative for the warmer months.

The dining areas are the catering team's playground. Here, they express their creativity to offer varied menus that are as nutritious as they are delicious. They work hard to make sure that meal times are enjoyable for residents, with something to suit everyone, and are always happy to cater for visiting loved ones too.

My aunt has been at Woodlands View for 2 years and I cannot fault the care and the love she receives. The carers make her feel special and always keep me informed. During the lockdown, I have been able to talk to my aunt on skype with the carers help and they have gone out of their way to make sure
I am still included in her life. My aunt and I are extremely happy and could not imagine her living anywhere else.

My Auntie has been a resident of woodlands view care home since April 2019. She started off in Newton House then moved to Lucas House in October 2019. Since March this year the care home has been on lockdown due to the Covid-19. My wife and I still go to see my Auntie and speak to her through the window
of the quiet room which is not ideal but that's all we can do. We know how frustrating this is for all families that have loved ones there. We telephone on a regular basis to have a chat with my Auntie and we are always greeted by a jolly voice of one of the amazing staff. I have said this before and I will say it again. I could not wish for my Auntie to be in a better care home. All the staff are so delightful and always have time to talk. The attention to detail is so wonderful to see, from dishing up the food, making cups of tea and all the great activities they do. The head of Lucas house is without a doubt so professional in what she does in such a loving caring way. Thank you so much.

Overall, my late father's time living at the home was a happy and secure place for him. The carers I could not fault, kind, caring and they truly adored my dad. But the people in charge, seniors/superiors and management I found to be lazy. They were not prepared to 'roll up their sleeves' and help in
the units when it was needed, which in my opinion does not make for good teamwork or prove to the staff that they generally care about them.

As Woodlands is a large home with a large staff team, the manager’s role is very managerial which is why we have a senior management team, including the home manager, deputy home manager and clinical services manager, down to a unit manager. My sister-in-law received care that was exemplary. She was treated with kindness and treated with dignity. She was served good nutritious food, and when she could no longer feed herself, she was helped with great kindness. My brother visited his wife at least five times a week and sat with her all day,
he never witnessed anything to give him concern - quite the opposite. They also showed great kindness.

My husband has been in Woodlands View Care Home for 3 years. I must say the care he has received has been extremely good, his skin has remained intact even though he cannot move himself. I cannot comment on the food, as my husband is fed through a peg. The carers are all kind and helpful and his nurses
are supportive and caring not only to my husband but for me also.

My aunty has come on leaps and bounds since residing in Woodlands View. She is well cared for si fed well gets involved with all the activities i.e cooking, games, bingo etc she is never lonely.
I can't thank the staff enough for the continued care and love they show to my aunty and all the residents.

I am very happy with the care my husband receives. The staff give excellent care and show incredible patience, even though my husband's behaviour can be quite challenging at times.
The staff are always happy to discuss any concerns or issues I may have and keep me updated with any changes to my husband's
care or medication. I am also always made to feel very welcome whenever I visit.

I am very pleased with the care my mum has been given. At times it seems the staff are rushed off their feet. My mum is on end of life care and is treated with such kindness. I think a little extra care could be taken with the upkeep of her room, as some times it could do with a clean.

The care home was ok except some facilities were not good: - visitor toilet dirty - laundry ruined some of Mum's clothes and some items of clothing were never returned, even though we personally labelled them - carers were very good but inadequate number of staff meant that Mum was left and not attended
to when needing toileting - meal times were rushed, again due to lack of staff.

My mother was a resident from February 2019 - September 2019, until she sadly passed away. The staff were always kind and compassionate right until she passed. They do a wonderful job, even though they are all under tremendous pressure due to not enough staff. This desperately needs to be addressed
as mistakes can be made, and it's not the blame of the caring staff when this happens.

My family and I were extremely pleased with the care and kindness shown to our Mother when she was no longer able to live alone. The staff at Woodlands View treated her with respect and compassion, ensuring she was made comfortable at all times. Communication between ourselves and the home's staff was
excellent and much appreciated, given I live abroad. Thanks to them, our Mother lived until she was 90 years old.

She has always been treated with compassion and us, as a family, have always been treated with great kindness and respect. The care came to the fore for the last week of her life. The staff (day

Woodlands View has been an excellent experience for dad. The staff have made life as bearable as possible for someone who has been bed-bound since his arrival, by their caring and gentle approach, which has always been tailored to Dad as an individual. A first-class experience.

My mother has been cared for in Astonbury House for over two years.
I live in Devon and come to visit with my father (who attends daily), four days probably every 6 weeks.
It saddened us that some of the staff were moved to other houses, who would then have the benefit of excellent care staff.
Our
main worry was that the high standard of care we had experienced would be lowered.
I think we should give enormous thanks that the nominated individual and her staff, old and new, have again 'raised their game'. Well done.

There is no doubt that this is a good care home. First and most importantly is the wonderful staff who treated Mum with dignity and compassion.
Their patience and kindness made Mum's last months peaceful. They also gave me support and kept me informed.
I visited Mum daily and the staff were always
welcoming. I cannot praise enough the carers who helped Mum and my family through her final hours. Mum's room was cosy and quiet; we could visit her at any time and help feed her.
Some updating of wc's would be good but this is an excellent care home.

This review applies to a relationship built up between the Activities Leader in this establishment and myself. The Activities Leader is very caring and friendly and appears to treat all who come into her orbit with insight and real interest. She undertakes many tasks alongside her "amenities" role.
