Highfield Nursing Home is a beautiful converted Victorian Gentleman's Residence that is now fitted and fully-resourced for modern care requirements, with the addition of a purpose-built extension specifically designed for dementia patients.

A secluded outdoor courtyard is popular with residents, as is the welcoming communal lounge area where they can enjoy the daily scheduled activities which also include trips out or, if preferred residents can enjoy some quiet time in one of the quiet seating areas. Fresh, homemade meals can be enjoyed in the dining area.

Other facilities at Highfield include a hairdressing salon, an all inclusive laundry service and access to video calling to keep in touch with family and friends.

From day one, the home is structured around person-centred goals, with the aim of promoting independence, supporting a relaxing lifestyle and better quality of life.

Throughout my stay I have been treated with politeness and respect by all members of staff. They have kept me up to date with all aspects of my recovery and been helpful in many ways. Having to undergo rehabilitation therapy was a new experience, but the physiotherapists were most helpful and encouraged
me to work hard on my recovery.
My room, although small, was comfortable and well equipped. Finally, my thanks to all the staff for helping to make me relaxed and comfortable during my stay.

My stay at Highfield has been very good. The main problem I had when I first arrived, apart from the physios meeting me on arrival, and taking me to my room at about 2:30 to 3 pm; they left me, and I didn't see anyone from the team to say about the routine here or what to expect of the daily timetable.
I was expecting a visit from someone to ask how I was feeling about the move and some reassurance of my care. That did not happen until after 9 pm when the night nurse came and had a really good chat and made me feel a lot better - she was an angel.

Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Highfield Nursing Home

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay with us at Highfield. We are pleased to hear that you felt your stay with us was very good and we will pass on your lovely comment about our night nurse. We are however sorry to hear that you didn’t get the information or reassurance you felt you needed on your first day and we will speak with our team to make sure we learn from this and avoid this happening in the future.

Highfield has completely changed my idea of a care home. Having been transferred here for rehab after an accident, my spirits were at their lowest but not for long. I soon realised what a great place it is, a lovely building and extremely well run. The staff are incredible. I would say care is second
to none.

I came here after nearly 4 weeks in hospital suffering from cellulitis. I had to learn to walk again. The physio started in hospital and continued here. I was frightened about climbing stairs but the physio's here encouraged me all the time and after only 3 weeks I am going home. I am very happy with
all the help I received.

When I visit my husband, all the staff are so friendly and caring. It is such a relief to wake up every morning, knowing that he is in such good hands and I can relax. I am always telling people how very good the Highfield Nursing home is and then when my friend/relations visit with me, they all agree
100% plus.

I came here after leaving hospital for rehab. I find the staff, on the whole very helpful, friendly and efficient. The room is very pleasant and comfortable. The physios have a plan for me that we're working to, will assist more once I'm fully weight bearing. The only slight contradiction would be food
choice. In hospital, there was a menu. Here you're told in the morning what it is and do you want it and if not there is no reasonable alternative unless you ask. No veg/vegan choices or low carb. Also, only soup or sarnies for tea always. Get boring.

The moment I walked into Highfield Nursing Home in Ryde I had a sense of professional and friendly calmness. Everyone, from manager to kitchen staff are amazingly friendly and could not do more for you. My mother had been made to feel so welcomed and at home. Nothing is too much for the staff, especially
the health workers are always ready to help even though they are so very busy. They are like family to my mother. They know her so well and understand her needs.
I thank you all for your kindness and care to my mother who means the world to me.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.280)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.280) out of 10 for Highfield Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.610 for Highfield Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (70 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.61

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.67 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highfield Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.2 = 0.87

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
