Highfield Nursing Home is a beautiful converted Victorian Gentleman's Residence that is now fitted and fully-resourced for modern care requirements, with the addition of a purpose-built extension specifically designed for dementia patients.

A secluded outdoor courtyard is popular with residents, as is the welcoming communal lounge area where they can enjoy the daily scheduled activities which also include trips out or, if preferred residents can enjoy some quiet time in one of the quiet seating areas. Fresh, homemade meals can be enjoyed in the dining area.

Other facilities at Highfield include a hairdressing salon, an all inclusive laundry service and access to video calling to keep in touch with family and friends.

From day one, the home is structured around person-centred goals, with the aim of promoting independence, supporting a relaxing lifestyle and better quality of life.

This is a warm, bright home, which is welcoming to both residents and visitors. The care is good and services i.e hairdressing, foot care is necessary to help residents feel comfortable.
Dementia care is good, I have both personal and professional of both.
The opportunity of mixing with other residents
is welcome not just at lunchtime, but also at activities.

I can't compare Highfield with any other care home but my husband has been treated with dignity and respect. He is a very independent person generally and has been allowed to remain so whilst being treated and receiving physiotherapy. I can't praise your staff enough.

My mother received the highest level of care during her stay at heightfield nursing home, there were always ample staff available at all times. The meals were of a good quality and staff were available to assist when necessary. Patients were encouraged to eat their meals together in the dining area
which helped the patients to socialise and encouraged recovery. The rooms are spacious and kept clean with on-suite toilets, separating those that are eating from those that need to use the toilet, is a huge improvement from the hospital surroundings and helps to prevent the transfer of infections. Parking is of a premium especially for those with a disability, you may like to contact the care home to check parking availability before visiting relatives.

The food is excellent and there is always someone on hand to help. I would recommend Highfield to anybody.

My mother spent the last three years of her life at Highfield. The staff profile, of mixed age, experience and nationality was well balanced, bringing empathy and variety to each day.

The chefs worked hard to produce her personalised diet; providing a simple, hot evening meal that I could assist

with. This sustained her deteriorating health and was greatly appreciated.

The health care assistants quickly got to know her preferences for receiving personal care, during which time some lasting, good relationships were built and a sense of humour shared.

During my daily visits, the availability of a visitors’ kitchenette and use of free Wi-fi was a great convenience.

Each of the nurses was very supportive and giving of themselves, enabling my mother to feel part of the ‘outside’ world. They were also a good support to me. I was particularly grateful to the ‘key’ nurse who fully involved me with the care plan and expertly prepared me for the inevitable at exactly the right time.

My wife went into Highfield Nursing Home in April 2016. She had suffered from Vascular Dementia for some years having been cared for at home by our family and carers who came in two or three times a day to help wash and dress her and help her to bed at night. Eventually, it became obvious that she would
need to enter a nursing home for her own safety. At first, she was rather "difficult" and uncooperative but in a short while our whole family saw that she had become more rested, peaceful. Of course, she had good days and bad which is common with her illness but the care, love and attention she received from the staff had done this. Above all she was safe and her personal care was extremely well looked after. I was always treated perfectly by the staff and kept fully informed at all times.

Mum was in the last stages of dementia when she attended Highfield in Nov-Dec last year. She was tired and distressed and was slowly losing her powers of speech and understanding. The staff of Highfield were unfailingly kind and gentle toward her at this difficult time and always treated her with
respect and dignity. Her personal care was spotless. As her main carer for many years this was so important to me, anything else would have been too distressing for words.
So my thanks to all at Highfield for their tender care and support through such a difficult and stressful time for the family.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.280)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.280) out of 10 for Highfield Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.610 for Highfield Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (70 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.61

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.67 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highfield Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.2 = 0.87

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
