Barchester Orchard House Care Home makes the most of pleasant grounds and a versatile interior to provide top quality nursing and residential care, with professionals available round-the-clock and also skilled in care and support for physical disabilities and dementia.

A committed team works hard to ensure that all provision is tailored to the individual, while allowing them to make the most of a relaxed and homely atmosphere. The ground floor of the home has five separate communal areas for residents to enjoy at their leisure and choice. There are 3 gardens also, the sensory beach garden, the courtyard garden and the wildlife garden with accessible enclosed decking area where residents can sit and hopefully catch a glimpse of the local red squirrel family. In 2107 the home won the 'Wight in Bloom' for the sensory beach garden.

The home was awarded 'Good' in all five domains by CQC in January 2017 and the team is working extremely hard towards an 'OUTSTANDING' at the next inspection.

All staff are carefully chosen and well-qualified to achieve the best standards, with the company philosophy focusing on an attentive service that also supports an active lifestyle. Personal interests are encouraged and there is much to enjoy within the life of the home.

Lovely atmosphere
welcoming coffee area ,lovely lounge, large bedrooms en-suite with nice furnishings. Hair salon which can be used by your own personal hairstylist
Great activities bingo musical events ,themed days ,quiz ,church services , Outings in a Mini bus
Smiley helpful care staff and
nurses always happy to update us on parents who have recently settled in so well . Making the decision to move them from their own home to a forever care home stressless as possible

I visited with a friend who had been at school with my sister-in-law, which was good for her. Recognised herself in a school photo.
Concerned about my sister-in-law's chestiness and spoke to nurse about this. Action and contact with the doctor is in hand. I hope the virus or treatment can soon start.

It is so lovely to see my mother-in-law happy again. She is enjoying the food and the company. The activities are very good and she has been on two trips and only been at Barchester Orchard House Care Home a few weeks. She loved the lighthouse visit. Thank you for giving purpose to her life.

My mother spent the last two months of her life at Barchester Orchard House Care Home. I could not fault the care that she received or the support we were given, as a family. She had a beautiful room overlooking lawns and trees (such a relief after a view of a brick wall in her previous care home).
Everything was clean, comfortable and modern. Every effort was made to find food and drinks that my mother enjoyed and her visitors were grateful for the excellent coffee and teas which were available in the foyer. I felt that the home had exactly the right balance of checking that my mother was as comfortable as could be expected whilst giving my family privacy to be with her in her final days. She was treated with the utmost respect and compassion throughout her stay and I was kept up to date about her declining health from the outstanding nurses. It was particularly reassuring to have a named nurse and carer who we could ask for advice and information. My family are so grateful to the whole team.

My father passed away last December and I am so grateful that he was able to die peacefully at The Orchards which he thought of as home. He had lived there for almost 8 years and was happy. Dad celebrated his 100th birthday there and staff provided a fantastic buffet and made the whole family welcome.
In fact, the staff were wonderful and always willing to help. For example, when he became bedridden in his last year, Dad was unable to reach the treats kept in his drawer. I mentioned this to the receptionist who immediately had a sign made reminding staff to ask if he wanted any of his sweets or whisky. Dad enjoyed his meals and continued to do so when he needed help eating and drinking.

My dad came to Barchester Orchard House Care Home for respite care whilst my mum was in hospital. Sadly, she passed away and Dad continued his stay. Everyone at Orchard has been wonderfully kind and caring. Dad has been confused and heartbroken but every member of staff has given him some time and support.
As a result, he has settled and is able to get through the day calmly. I cannot praise Orchard House highly enough. Not only have they looked after my dad but they have cared for all of us, family as well. As we live off the island, we are having to move Dad closer to us. Orchard House will be a very hard act to follow and I thank everyone there for helping Dad through such a difficult time.

The staff, management, house, carers, nurses, activities, are a well-integrated team. The team looked after me well, I was at the Barchester Orchard House Care Home to recuperate from a hip replacement operation and to give my wife a rest from looking after me. (Two weeks). The shower in my room could
not be easily used because the entire floor flooded. To read I needed a strong light which was not installed.

My brother has been cared for by the fabulous staff at Orchard House for 8 months, because of the care and wonderful home-cooked food he has survived a lot longer than expected. Over Christmas, there were activities every day and special menus and parties to which I was welcome to attend. The ladies
who provide all the activities work so hard and are fantastic. I can't praise the staff enough, always helpful and friendly, even when under pressure.

My mother has vascular dementia and is quite frail. She has been a resident at Orchard House Care Home for a year. She is always treated with kindness and dignity by the nursing and caring staff. Her room is always spotlessly clean and tidy and there is a general feeling of a happy and friendly atmosphere.
I would highly recommend this home to others.

Mum was initially a short-term resident after breaking her shoulder and arm. Despite stating that she didn't ever want to go into a home, she decided after about six weeks that she would like to stay permanently. She thoroughly enjoys the food and activities and says she is very well cared for. She
has a new lease of life and new friends. It is very comforting to know that she is so happy and safe.

Kim

Kim Fleming

Job Title: General Manager

Joined: 2018

I grew up in Scotland and tried many university courses and careers before I settled into nursing at a later stage in life. I worked in hospitality, managed pubs, tried primary teaching and studied English and politics at university. I’ve travelled the world, but eventually decided I needed a career that I could give something back with.


I trained to be a mental health nurse and graduated in 2008, along with two children in tow. My career in Scotland involved working with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour, and I worked my way up the ladder quickly to management. I specialised in positive behaviour support, and loved making a difference to people’s lives.


My family and I made the decision to move to the Isle of Wight in 2017, and that is when I joined Barchester as a peripatetic nurse initially, before being offered the position of deputy manager in 2018 at The Orchards. I love my work here, we have an amazing team and residents, and there are so many opportunities to really care and look after people who deserve that in their later years.

I am an experienced Deputy Manager/Clinical Lead who has worked as part of the Barchester family for many years. I have worked as a Deputy Manager in a fellow Barchester home, a Registered Nurse and prior to undertaking my nursing degree, I enjoyed working as a Healthcare assistant here at Orchard House. I have recently obtained my Associate Fellowship in Higher Education due to my work in teaching leadership and management skills in nurse education. This has been a new venture for me having spent most of my career within childcare and education settings.
I work on reception and support the administrative processes within the home.

My journey with Orchard House started back in 2018 when I joined as a General Assistant. Over time, my passion for cooking grew stronger.

Not long after, I stepped up as Second Chef, which gave me the chance to really develop my skills in the kitchen.
In 2024, I was honoured to take on the role of Head Chef, and I’m excited to lead our fantastic kitchen team.
Cooking has always been a passion of mine, and I love creating meals that bring people together.
Originally, I’m from Shropshire. I moved over from the mainland about ten years ago, and Orchard House has felt like home ever since.
