Springfield Nursing Home is located in the charming seaside town of Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. The stunning Edwardian building has been carefully extended over the years, providing a comfortable and homely environment for its residents.

The home has been carefully created with three underlying values at its core – care, comfort and companionship. Quality of life is key at Springfield and they provide a full programme of activities to help residents engage in and maintain their hobbies and interests. Homemade meals can be enjoyed in the dining room.

Springfield also benefits from a coffee machine for residents and visitors, and video calling is available to keep in touch with friends and family as well as an all inclusive laundry service.

Springfield provides cosy, safe and comfortable surroundings for those who call it 'home', comprising 60 well proportioned en-suite bedrooms which are all beautifully decorated and fully furnished. Wards cannot describe the treatment and courtesy that I have received over the last 5 or 6 six weeks. All the staff have been so attentive and caring that none could complain about the slightest thing. Thank you all so much. You are all so marvellous.

On the whole, I have had a very enjoyable experience during my stay! I had no idea what to expect but was very, very pleasantly surprised. Generally, all facilities were first class, although I should stress that from a personal view, I did not feel that the food was always up to standard. Cheaper options
were used with an aftertaste. Food was not always hot, and I did not feel that there was always given a good choice, even though jacket potatoes and omelettes were other daily options.

Rehab and residential care all work as a team. I really enjoyed the exercise class that was led by the activity coordinator and rehab staff; they worked well together, and this was well attended for a new class. Rehab residents and permanent residents are all treated equally.

The staff in this nursing home were the most amazing team my mum ever had. Looking after her in her final days, they worked efficiently and to good standards. They were very pleasant, friendly and lovely people who will never be forgotten.

Dad was looked after and cared for by all staff who had a genuine care for him. He was looked after safely, and securely and we were never worried for his wellbeing. Special thanks to his two main carers, and also thank you to the receptionist, thoroughly recommend Springfield. It was not somewhere
we wanted him to go (or any care home), but we were unable to cope any longer. Massive thanks to everyone at the home for caring for him and keeping us informed of his needs and requirements. Thank you!

For the 22 weeks, I was there, I was looked after very well. The staff were excellent and took a lot of trouble. The food was a good variety and always a choice. Everything was arranged for me as in transport when I had to go to the hospital for appointments, which is one less thing to worry about.
By the time I came home, I had been sorted out medically and felt good and safe about going home- the physios had done a good job, along with the medical staff. Overall, everyone did a good job, and I was as comfortable as I could be wearing a brace in a heatwave - the best day when that came off for good.

Staff have been amazing; supportive physio team, very patient and encouraging. Nurses are very professional and have good communication regarding the administration of drugs and other pain relief. Everyone provides food/drink - nutritional, homecooked, tasty food (vegetarian), and numerous cups of tea!
Even for visitors! A very caring establishment - thank you for looking after me and getting me ready for the next steps to recovery.

All the staff that attended my dad in his final days treated him with respect and dignity. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. They looked after my dad's visitors as well, and all became good friends.

This home has looked after me extremely well - they have got me back on my feet with the aid of a simmer frame and physio exercises. The staff are very caring with a good sense of humour. The management is run tip-top, and the food and cleanliness are brilliant.

Mum needed respite and physio following a fall at the end of May. Disappointment with facilities in a residential home led me to seek a nursing home near Mum's own home. Initial enquiries were met with a very friendly member of staff and a tour round the home. Within 48 hours of arrival, Mum was settling
in, and an approach had been made for her to receive physio. Her mobility improved greatly with the help of staff and occupational therapy.
It would be nice to see the decor of the rooms upgraded (although I did notice decorators in the building), and the ensuite facilities are quite cramped. Choice of food could be extended - a slice of homemade cake with tea time sandwich?
Unfortunately, two items of clothing were mislaid, despite everything having name labels attached.
All staff on all levels were very friendly, kind and helpful to Mum, and if the need arises in the future, she will happily return to Springfield for future care.

I stayed at Springfield for a month's respite care. I wasn't eating or walking properly. Food was to be desired - lunch was sometimes lukewarm and parts cold, and roast potatoes need an overhaul! Sandwiches at teatime desperately need to be varied greatly, soup needs to be "tasted" before serving. I
was well looked after by everyone.

This was the first time I have ever been in a rehab establishment after spending 12-days in hospital after a fall resulting in a fractured femur. I couldn't have wished for a better place to be to get me on the long road to full mobility. Spent 8-weeks at Springfield and am now home and still getting
support from physio.

I felt supported throughout my stay. Physiotherapy enabled me to regain skills, and small achievements were praised. The catering staff provided me with good, nutritional meals, despite me being dairy and egg intolerant and vegetarian. The housekeeping staff are all friendly and helpful and kept the
home and my room lovely and clean. The care staff catered to every need, before and after I became independent and were always on hand to answer questions and requests. The management team are friendly and approachable. The home felt like a big family, with the residents included.

The staff at Springfield have shown respect, patience and understanding to my dad who cannot explain all his needs after losing his speech due to a stroke. They always encourage Dad to be part of the activities. We have always been made to feel welcome even when short-staffed during Covid problems.
They have done their best to meet our needs along with my brother, who travelled from the Midlands. There is a sense of fun among the staff and management. The manager is very hands-on, very cheerful and available to talk if needed. Our requests are dealt with quickly. My dad has done his best to tell me he is very content at Springfields.

I'm Tom, and I am the deputy manager at Springfield Nursing Home where I have recently joined at the end of 2024.


My healthcare career began when I was 18 as a care assistant in a nursing home and a specialist dementia home, and I progressed to a nurse some years later. My experience in emergency nursing and community nursing has been invaluable to my role in management, and I continuously strive to develop my own skills further.


I am proud to be part of such an exceptional team that always has the resident's interests at heart. The values set out by Hartford Care are reflected wonderfully in the day-to-day lives of the residents here at Springfield and I feel privileged to play a role in that journey every day.
