Barty House Nursing Home offers first-rate nursing care in Bearsted, Kent.

CQC has rated the home as 'good' overall and 'outstanding' for 'responsive', thanks to an ‘innovative approach' to meeting people’s needs to ensure the best possible quality of life (January 2019).

Accommodated in an impressive Georgian listed building, combined with modern, purpose-built facilities and surrounded by extensive gardens, the home offers a high standard of care for up to 59 residents, delivered with empathy, compassion and dignity. The bright, spacious bedrooms in the contemporary extension have ensuite wetrooms and many enjoy direct access to the courtyard garden and views over the grounds.

The characterful rooms in the older part of the building come in various sizes, and some also have ensuite facilities. Their traditional windows overlook different aspects of the garden, offering captivating views at any time of year.

Nursing and care staff are on hand 24/7, supported by the dedicated administration, facilities and housekeeping teams, while the activities staff provide a daily programme of interesting and varied activities.

The communal areas, including the glass-fronted Willow Lounge which overlooks the Kent countryside, are designed to provide comfortable spaces to socialise with guests or other residents.

The grounds surrounding the house include traditional English gardens at the front and a wheelchair-accessible courtyard area at the centre of the new building. The gardens are inhabited by rabbits and many types of birds, so there is always something interesting to look at!

Constant unanswered call bells throughout. The number of staff gathered in the car park smoking area is often extraordinarily high. Regularly needed to search out staff when he needed the toilet, despite using the buzzer. Shared, dirty commodes are being wheeled from one room to the next.
He found
the shared areas overwhelming.
He felt vulnerable. Was not encouraged to eat or drink well, and suffered a number of UTI's, some were only detected after the family requested that he be tested. Regularly being offered tea to drink, when staff were repeatedly told that he liked black coffee or hot chocolate, even when clear notices were put immediately inside his door. Rapidly heading towards being blind, food was put down and he was left to try to feed himself without support.
A hospital transport booking was not made, so he missed a vital eye appointment.
His clothing was often dirty and he was left in bed wearing only incontinence pants and socks on his lower half
Left after hospital admission for dehydration.

My mother was a resident at Barty for more than a year and sadly passed away recently. My father and I were regular visitors. Just a short time before Mum passed, Dad was taken ill very suddenly and ended up in hospital. Mum was taken ill and ended up in hospital too. She was brought back to Barty (her
home) to spend her remaining time in comfort, surrounded by the wonderful staff who genuinely cared. Dad wanted to join Mum, and as the hospital felt they could do no more for him, they agreed he could go if Barty would take him, as he was so seriously ill. Well, Barty moved heaven and earth and, along with the hospital, managed to get Dad there within 24 hours. Mum and Dad spent Mum’s last nine days side by side in the same room. Dad is still at Barty, being very well cared for, and is the best he can be under the circumstances. My deepest gratitude goes to the manager and all the staff at Barty for everything they have done for us all and their continuing care of Dad.

This is a good care home and meets the needs of its residents 99% of the time. Areas in which improvements can be made are with client personal hygiene care and staff being more visible and accessible.
Facilities for relatives are limited and would benefit from regular cleaning and replenishment.
The management of the home is good, and the admin staff are always friendly and helpful and very much offer a personal touch of kindness if I've been upset, which meant a lot.
The leisure facilities and activities are well thought out and inclusive to all who wish to participate.
The food options can be rather bland, routine and not very appetising. Portions are small for some, and evening meals are not what clients may be ordinarily used to.
Some tweaking is required, but without a doubt, a nice place, where my relative feels comfortable, cared for and loved. Thank you.

My mother moved into Full auth email sent in July 2023. She settled in really quickly, which was due to the care and attention she received both from management and staff. The staff have been very attentive and supportive. We were really concerned that my mother would find the transition very difficult,
but due to the level of care she is receiving she transitioned much better than we expected.
We would highly recommend the home to anyone needing nursing care for a relative.

Barty House Nursing Home offers a very friendly, caring ambience where residents are well catered for. My wife became a resident recently and has settled in well thanks to the caring way in which she has been treated. Having looked at several homes I would thoroughly recommend Barty for the care offered.

Overall my wife is content with the level of care she receives from all members of staff. Response times to the call system could be faster but this may be down to recruitment issues.

Overall pleased with the care and treatment my mother has received.
Staff attentive and caring but in public areas can be quite loud. Was told mother would move rooms after a deep cleaning had taken place.
Mother moved. Piles of fluff and crumbs under the bed. Someone else's property was found in
the empty chest of drawers.
Requested numerous times for electrical equipment to be checked as per policy, but still not done.

I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone for all the kindness they showed to my uncle. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer and got admitted in October 2021 till he sadly passed in January 2023 after a long fight with his illness. I feel so grateful knowing that he got the best care and
that his needs were met night and day. The support I got from all the staff was second to none and for this, I am so grateful please keep up all your hard work. I have no problem recommending Barty House.

All the carers and nurses I have met at Barty House Nursing Home have been very caring and gentle with my dad. The management has always been approachable and reassuring, going above and beyond to ensure Dad settles in well, with support and reassurance.
I visit every day so have been able to get
to know other relatives of residents and everyone seems to agree Barty is a lovely home with staff who have an infectious energy to ensure they are putting the resident's needs first

My brother and I cannot thank Barty House Nursing Home and all the staff enough, for the love and care and kindness that they showed our Mum. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer in February 2022 and went to Barty House Nursing Home in March 2022, her room was in Monckton Ward. Her illness was short
as she passed away at Barty House Nursing Home on 26th June 2022 but during that time she had security in the knowledge that at any time of the day or night her needs were met whether it be more medication or just someone to hold her hand when she was frightened. As a family, we were given so much support and guidance by the nurses and carers through each stage of her illness from beginning to end. We will always be grateful that we chose Barty House Nursing Home for our Mum's final days. Thank you so much Barty House Nursing Home.

The care given to my beloved partner was quite exceptional, always with a smile and a chat but always with gentle professionalism. Nothing deemed too much trouble in the need to give comfort and support. The home itself is welcoming with its relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. The rooms are light,
airy, spacious, well-furnished and clean. The garden is a delightful place to sit and recharge mind and body, all while being entertained by the wildlife. Barty House Nursing Home is a home from home, and we owe it so much during the time we were there.

My husband went to Barty House from the hospice, he was as well as he possibly could be at the time but he did not receive the care that was expected. He only had 7+2 parts of a day. In that time he had very little care and felt isolated. His first day he never got a drink after breakfast until 3.15.
I did ask at 12.30 if he would be getting a drink. Water jug empty on 3 occasions. Took all 3 blankets away, left 3 windows open all night. Then he was not given some of his medication, leaving him feeling ill. He rang buzzer, no help so he passed out. He had a visitor pop in to see him at 8pm, finding him unconscious rang again for help. It was 8.25 before help came. Then the day before he died he was feeling well and at 4.30 he was sitting up eating an ice cream then at 5.15 he was not answering his phone. We tried 4 times. The home phoned at 8.30 saying he was having a reaction to the morphine. When we got there he was barley conscious but managed to say his very last words. Take me home.

Dear Pauline, having spoken with you in detail beforehand about these issues, I am sorry that you still have concerns. As you know, your husband came to us from the hospice for end-of-life care. Our electronic records show he was regularly attended to, his buzzer answered and his water jugs continually refilled. Due to the heatwave staff took actions to keep the room cool for his comfort. His medication was prescribed by the doctor when needed, rather than on a regular basis. When his visitor arrived at 8pm, he was deeply asleep, not unconscious. On his final day, he received his medication and did not experience any negative reactions to it. He was at the end stage of his illness and we are truly very sorry for your loss. My sister and I spent time choosing the right home for dad and Barty House stood out from the rest. The understanding and acceptance of dad as a person and his likes and dislikes were established early on and taken on board. It took time for him to settle and any difficulties were dealt with quickly
and the care he received was very good considering covid restraints and staff absence. He settled well and liked the home, especially the humour and caring attitude of the staff. As his health deteriorated the staff acted in a prompt and professional way to support dad. Having access to his notes was really helpful in order to keep up to date with his progress when covid restrictions were in place. The staff at the home were very supportive to my sister and myself as dad reached the end of his life and dealt with every aspect of his and our care sensitively. Thank you all at Barty House as a senior nurse myself I would highly recommend this home.

My mum moved in at the end of November 2021. Unfortunately, she is mostly bedbound and unable to participate in the majority of the many varied daily activities on offer. However, the staff frequently chat with her and she has a television in her room. They do a great job ensuring she is kept comfortable
and pay close attention to her physical health. The staff are very polite and always helpful however due to workloads they sometimes forget to follow up requests but a gentle reminder usually resolves the issue. The food is freshly prepared on-site and of a good standard, mum enjoys most of the selection available and I believe this has significantly helped her recovery. My relatives and I are happy to recommend this home.

My mother has now been at Barty House for 3-months. She has settled in really well and particularly enjoys the activities at the home that are arranged every afternoon.
The food is very good and my mother's appetite has improved.
The Care staff are kind friendly and the care given to my mother is
of a good standard.
When visiting Staff are welcoming and make time to update the family. They are especially supportive to my 92-year-old Dad who visits my mother 4-5 times a week.
It is reassuring to our family that she calls Barty House “home” she speaks fondly of the staff and is grateful for all they do for her

My mum is a resident of Barty House, as I live in Spain I find the staff excellent, on a daily basis, they never fail to help my mum be in contact with me via Facetime. Visiting my mum I found all the staff great, nothing was too much trouble, even the activity staff were brilliant entertaining the
residents with a varied activity daily, which me and my mum thoroughly enjoyed. Everyone was kind and very caring, I cannot fault this care home or the staff, Many Thanks.
