Barty House Nursing Home offers first-rate nursing care in Bearsted, Kent.

CQC has rated the home as 'good' overall and 'outstanding' for 'responsive', thanks to an ‘innovative approach' to meeting people’s needs to ensure the best possible quality of life (January 2019).

Accommodated in an impressive Georgian listed building, combined with modern, purpose-built facilities and surrounded by extensive gardens, the home offers a high standard of care for up to 59 residents, delivered with empathy, compassion and dignity. The bright, spacious bedrooms in the contemporary extension have ensuite wetrooms and many enjoy direct access to the courtyard garden and views over the grounds.

The characterful rooms in the older part of the building come in various sizes, and some also have ensuite facilities. Their traditional windows overlook different aspects of the garden, offering captivating views at any time of year.

Nursing and care staff are on hand 24/7, supported by the dedicated administration, facilities and housekeeping teams, while the activities staff provide a daily programme of interesting and varied activities.

The communal areas, including the glass-fronted Willow Lounge which overlooks the Kent countryside, are designed to provide comfortable spaces to socialise with guests or other residents.

The grounds surrounding the house include traditional English gardens at the front and a wheelchair-accessible courtyard area at the centre of the new building. The gardens are inhabited by rabbits and many types of birds, so there is always something interesting to look at!

My father reluctantly decided he needed more care as he was suffering from terminal cancer. We were so pleased we chose Barty House where he settled in quickly. All the staff were friendly and had time to talk to both him and us as a family. His room was kept very clean and all his personal care carried
out with compassion. During my father's last few days his care was exceptional. We were very touched by how Barty House laid him to rest.

My 87-year-old mother booked a two-week stay, to convalesce following a hysterectomy. She had been before and had a positive experience. She was very weak and tired on arrival. No staff were present initially, but when they did appear were welcoming and helpful. Mother's room was on the second floor
and she felt isolated, which culminated in 1) Two days before her name on her door (not all staff knew she was there). 2) The buzzer did not work for the first 4/5 days. 3) Two days before she knew of heat/radiator controls. 4) Meals often late i.e. 2 pm lunch, 6.30 pm tea. 5) No jug of water one afternoon. 6) Food mixed - lovely lunches, poor sandwiches/breakfast often not as she ordered. She vacated a day early.

After a long illness, my husband could no longer be cared for at home which resulted in his admission to Barty House Nursing Home. On arriving we were introduced to once again another body of compassionate and caring staff that helped us through what was to be the most difficult time. The professionalism,
care and empathy given was second to none and in particular, I wish to thank my husband's regular carer.

A beautiful care home and a busy and bustling environment. The care home was friendly and welcoming and the staff listened to what we wanted from them. My relative went there for palliative care (late-stage) and it was important she had a "quiet" space to rest peacefully at the end of her life. She
was given a nice, light and airy room. As she was blind, and in a strange place, we wanted her to feel safe. She passed away in the night and I was assured she had someone with her when she died, which was very reassuring.
The staff were very kind and caring and I would recommend this nursing home to anyone considering care for a loved one.

I have recently lost my dad after a four-week stay at Barty House. I chose carefully and the home is outstanding. The team that looked after my dad (and it's a large team !) are amazing. From the cleaners, carers, nurses, reception and not forgetting maintenance ( for picture hanging ! ) and of course
the food, and laundry... it’s a slick operation. The last few nights I stayed and was so looked after. I had a lot of chats with the manager and any required actions needed where addressed. For palliative care of a loved one, they are experts. If more able-bodied lots to do as well.
At an extremely difficult time, they shone. I will always recommend you. Keep up the hard work team Barty.

I felt that Barty House was a wonderful nursing home. When my father went into Barty he was very ill suffering from terrible cancer on the neck.

All staff were very friendly, kind and caring, taking an interest in the person and their interests and needs. Nothing was too much trouble. Always made

My wife suffered a severe and deteriorating neurological illness (NSA) which caused increasing paralysis and we were not able to look after her at home, due to increasing disability.
The Barty House care team looked after her sympathetically and very well until she died three weeks later. They were
kind, thoughtful, attentive and endlessly sympathetic.

My sister went into the home in January 2010, at the age of 60, due to a brain injury and needed 24-hour care. She passed away in October 2018. In the 8 years she was there all her needs were taken care of by the excellent staff. In the last 18 months of her life, she needed a lot of special care which

Dad reluctantly agreed to move into a nursing home as he could no longer live independently. Luckily Barty House had a vacancy.
The first few weeks were very difficult but the care and attention shown him by all the staff helped him to settle in and eventually take part in activities and daily life
of the home.
This gave us peace of mind that Dad was well looked after and in the best place to meet his needs. We always felt welcome, the staff were always willing to answer our queries, however small.
Throughout his stay, the dedicated staff could not have been more supportive of Dad and also to ourselves. In his final days, they treated Dad with dignity and respect and were so kind to us at such a painful time.

No words can express the level of support that both my mother and I were given in the last weeks of her life. Every conceivable effort was made not only to give mum her dignity and the care she needed but also to me who needed the support to see me through these dark days. Every member of staff whether
it be nursing, caring, office or activity were there to show that they fully cared and understood what we were going through.


Mum had been at Barty House for just over 15 months (after I had done a huge amount of research on other homes in the area). Although at the beginning she was a little unsure, it did not take her long to feel wanted and cared for. Something that was very important to me was to see her settled and for her to experience the care, getting her involved in all the activities and she made a lot of friends with other residents and staff along the way.


I would have no hesitation in recommending Barty House no matter what level of care is required.

Having visited a few homes, as soon as we saw Barty House Nursing Home, my brother and I both knew that this was the most peaceful and caring home I had visited.


The staff and nurses are all wonderfully kind and helpful people who treated out mum with nothing else but care and compassion. When mum

got poorly the care and respect they showed her was amazing and the home is a fun and happy place, full of laughter, fun, games, and above all care. We will miss our visits to Barty House Nursing Home. Thank you all for looking after our beloved Mum until the end.

My parents entered Barty House in August 2010. My family and I had spent some time researching various establishments in the Kent/Surrey/Sussex area and Barty House gave a good mix of care quality, convenient location and appropriate accommodation at a reasonable price. My father resided there for 5.5yrs
and my mother for 7.5yrs, both of which are a testimony to good care. The nursing care has always been of a high standard and my parents were always treated with dignity, kindness and respect. The staff dealt with my mother's Multiple Sclerosis appropriately.
The home is clean and well-run in my opinion.
There are some aspects which could be improved. Potential users should be aware of the following:
1. Over the years, I have had to push for regular carer reviews: I believe this should be routine and proactively organised by the home.
2. Dealing with dementia.
3. Annual cost increases have been significantly above inflation.
4. Local shops are 1 mile away with poor wheelchair access.
