Cornford House is situated in the picturesque village of Pembury, close to Tunbridge Wells, and stands in its own six acre grounds with extensive gardens.

Cornford House offers long term care to older people with social or physical needs. Registered nurses are on duty 24 hours a day to provide nursing care where needed.

Accommodation is in 70 rooms, with en-suite shower rooms. Many rooms have wonderful views of nature.

On admission, residents have a room that is fully furnished by the home, but are welcome to bring their own furniture if they wish. Personal items, pictures, ornaments and soft furnishings that are familiar make rooms feel homely.

Communal rooms consist of attractive lounges and sunny dining rooms. There are snug areas to enjoy some quiet time. There is a lovely garden to enjoy the outdoors, perhaps get planting or have a summer barbecue.

Many activities are available including crafts, games, cooking and quizzes to name a few. There are extensive grounds for a stroll and trips to the local shops can be arranged. The home arranges entertainment such as musicians, singers and guest speakers. Outings are organised for example lunch at the local garden centre or local school children visit to spend time with the residents giving them a real sense of community.

Local church leaders make pastoral visits to the home to support residents' spiritual and emotional needs in line with the home's aim to provide whole person care.

I feel very confident in the staff and care being given.
The facilities and atmosphere at Cornford House speak for themselves.
This is obviously a distressing time and you couldn't ask for better support.

The care staff that look after my mum are always very kind and always seem happy. They work incredibly hard.
The home is impeccably clean as the cleaner goes above and beyond her normal duties.
I feel that the residents on the second floor could do with more activities to help with their stimulation
and also be let outside a lot more, to see a different scenery and get some fresh air.

Very lovely home and a nice atmosphere. Very kind staff. The garden is very pretty. My relative is very comfortable in this home and seems a lot brighter. Always looks very clean and tidy. The food is of a high standard

I feel that the home at times is understaffed.
There was an incident last weekend, where a resident fell in their room and was crying out for help, thankfully we were visiting and heard her screams, and went to assist, before eventually finding help, whilst I appreciate the staff cant be everywhere
at the same time, regular checks or walks should take place for the welfare of residents, regarding other areas rooms are very dated including furniture, the cleaner does an excellent job of maintaining cleanliness in the rooms and shower/wash area, the activity lady is superb in keeping the residents engaged and involved in activities. Can’t thank her enough.
The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, can’t comment on the management as I have never had the privilege to meet them, only “new resident manager” who seems very sincere.

Very happy overall. I’d like to thank you all in particular for your kindness and professionalism in dealing with Dad. I am aware that he is becoming more and more demanding and at times difficult. The care you give him is obvious and appreciated. Despite his frailty and declining health he always seems
happy. It’s reassuring for me to know he’s in good hands.

Dad has settled well and I am pleased with the care he receives. He is treated with dignity and kindness.
The laundry is now being done for him, and it was agreed it would be done in a separate machine, this mostly works well but we are missing a lot of white handkerchiefs and a small bright blue towel.
I’m sure they will appear in time.
Dad sometimes likes to have a day in bed and that is respected but he must be encouraged to drink please.
Overall a great job by you all, the nurses/carers are kind and attentive. I am much relieved and can go away without worrying for the first time in 15 years so I am grateful. Thank you all.

I continue to be delighted by the care and attention given by all staff to my stepmother who, like so many, suffers from acute dementia, and has been in the home for 6 years.
The staff make a special effort to meet her every need. The ambience when you enter Cornford House is one of friendliness, openness,
and professionalism. Thank you for all you do and I strongly recommend the home to others.

My parents have settled in really well. The staff are very friendly and are always there to help. The two ladies who do the activities are brilliant not sure of their names. The food my parents say is excellent. Their own concerns are sometimes their laundry can go missing even though I have marked
it all.

I am obviously not in a position to provide a review on behalf of my uncle who is the resident, so can only comment on how I perceive the home to be from my (sadly not too frequent) visits. I am always struck with how friendly and kind the care staff are towards me when I arrive. When I arrived unannounced
this May, I saw my uncle outside having a smoke - something that is important to him and considering his complete lack of mobility, he is completely dependent on staff for this pleasure which they clearly accommodate.
My uncle was then made comfortable again in his room, so after a brief chat, he suggested to me going outside again which the staff accommodated without any sense of frustration despite the time taken to get him out of bed and help in back again. The environment is really clean, well staffed and the outside grounds really nicely kept. My uncle seems to be very well cared for and his needs catered for.

My father-in-law moved from the hospital to Cornford House at the beginning of May. When visiting I have been well informed and all staff have been helpful. My father-in-law is well cared for and treated with kindness and respect. The home is clean and tidy and the other residents seem happy and content.

My mother-in-law was transferred from hospital to Cornford House Care Home for end-of-life care. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. My mother-in-law was beautifully cared for; washing, dressing, nail care, mouth care and general comfort. Nothing was too much trouble and they cared for us as a

I have had to speak to the manager of the home several times about certain things that I didn't like, and she has been excellent, and has sorted out everything that I have asked of her. I can honestly say she has been the best manager since my friend has been there. The chef is going and there is a
new one. I will also say all the time she is in charge I will 100% recommend you as a care home.

I was born in Dudley, Birmingham and it was there at age 12, I knocked on a neighbour's door to see if she needed any help, it was in that moment I knew what I was going to do when I went to work.

I worked for eleven and a half years with children and young adults with disabilities and epilepsy. I then progressed into working with older people as a Care Assistant in a residential home. I gained my NVQ and became Team Leader and then Deputy. Residential care had its own challenges when it comes to supporting residents living with dementia and resources were not always available to access. I completed my level 5 Management qualification and became a Manager working in nursing care. I find my job rewarding, it is a privilege to be part of someone's life, making a difference, sometimes for a long time, sadly sometimes not so long.


Supporting residents living with dementia, and their families can be a challenge but we always see the person first and the condition second.


I am doing the job I said I would do from the age of 12 and am proud of the difference, no matter how small, I can make.

After being promoted to Clinical Nurse, I led my team in providing care rooted in empathy. In 2022, I became Deputy Manager, continuing to combine leadership with a deep commitment to treating everyone with dignity and kindness.

I am family orientated and my work experience has varied over the years. I was a Dental Nurse before I had my children. When my children were young, I worked in Early Years and progressed to Nursery Supervisor.


As my home life evolved, so did my career and I have administration experience in Care Homes and a Neuro Rehabilitation Hospital. All my roles have involved providing a service of care for people in some way.


From experience, I understand that choosing the right care home for a loved one can be daunting and emotional. Helping families on that journey is such an important role and it makes me happy when a new resident arrives and settles, and they and their families become a part of our Cornford family.
