St Margaret's Nursing Home was selected for my Father by accessing a list of homes in our area. I feel that we were extremely lucky to have chosen St. Margaret's for a number of reasons. In these coronavirus times the home was very diligent on ensuring the protection of the residents. Making certain
that the home was virus-free was of the utmost importance.
The staff were professional and nothing was too much trouble for them. From the moment we made contact to find out if there was a space for my father they bent over backwards for us, and far more importantly for him. He was very happy at the home and the staff ensured his comfort and his safety.

A lovely position and easily accessible by public transport and car. Always a warm welcome along with respect and obvious care. The rooms are all very quiet, well ventilated and uncomplicated. Standards are set and followed by the manager and nursing manager. Very caring and committed leaders respected

My sister was a resident in the care home for about 18 months, she was very happy there. I cannot praise the staff there enough for the care and compassion they gave to her and the support they gave to me, not only when she passed away but at all times. They do their best to make residents as comfortable
as possible and make sure they have daily activities.

Very friendly staff. Nothing is ever too much. My friend has been to five other homes in the area and this is the nicest.

My mum seems happy at this home, in her day to day existence. We have always been pleased with the overall organization.

We placed our 54-year-old uncle in St Margaret's Nursing Home who had been put onto palliative care with a brain tumour. All the staff within the home were very friendly and efficient and once settled in his room downstairs my uncle was very comfortable with his needs being met. In the past couple of
weeks, in particular, we have noticed a massive increase in organisation and staff morale. Although previously we couldn't fault the service our uncle was receiving. Beautiful location for a home also as it means my uncle can still see the canal. Thank you St Margaret's Nursing Home for everything.

Was advised by mother's GP to seek urgent respite care. Mum had COPD and malnutrition. Was able to get her to St. Margaret's quickly. Viewed it as it was close to my home. Called in twice without an appointment. Mum had a warm comfortable room close to a wet room. Her oxygen was closely monitored and
she was frequently but gently reminded to keep her oxygen on. She had a comfortable bed and specialist chair with an air cushion provided. Mum gained almost 7 pounds in weight in her first eight days and enjoyed her food. She asked and was provided with extra too. No restrictions on visiting and we had a trip to the seaside ( two minutes away) which she enjoyed. Staff seemed to be encouraged to talk to residents and mum was particularly afraid at night but was looked after throughout. She had the opportunity to socialise but mainly declined. Activities were provided. She enjoyed reading and was given access to a wide library. Glad she went and are grateful for her care.

My Dad, who's 96, has been at St Margaret's since January, following a major stroke, with Alzheimer's and vascular dementia. I came to look at the home and felt 'at home' there. I was given a warm welcome, shown the room which would be Dad's and was happy that he would fit in. The lack of a private
toilet is an ongoing concern for me, but I accept that not all rooms have them. I won't pretend that it's easy for the carers as Dad's behaviour is challenging, to say the least, but when I visit, he is always clean, smart and tidy and certainly well fed! He is safe and secure and I certainly have no wish for him to move elsewhere. Unless he really needs to go into hospital, he will be looked after until the end of his life and that gives me great comfort, knowing that he will be cared for so well. The staff are all lovely, (no agency staff, so the residents can get used to the same ladies and gents looking after them) like family and that makes all the difference to me. Thank you all.

Had nothing but good results. My mum is a different lady and has lots of activities and things to do. She is really happy. If there are any queries then it is sorted straight away. Staff confident in what they do and are helpful to both residents and family. My mum thought the food is very nice.

As a family we couldn't be happier with St Margaret's. My mother has only recently moved to St Margaret's and the care she receives is by far better than her previous home. She has come on in leaps and bounds, she wasn't talking much when she arrived, this has now changed and she talks and we can understand
what she says. She looks well, clean and happy.

The staff were lovely. As my mother-in-law was only there 3-4 days it's hard to say more.

The day nurse was very concerned about her comfort so arranged for a doctor to call (unfortunately they didn't come before she died).

I would recommend the nursing home to anyone else.

Only been here a short time but have found management and nursing staff, carers, in fact, all appear professional and fully up to the job in hand. From what I have seen, they are an asset to the managers.

We, as a family, have found St Margaret's Nursing Home very friendly and welcoming. My darling mum is well cared for and always has a lovely smile for us when we visit. Her meals are all home cooked and appetising. All the staff are very kind to mum and think a lot of her, which is so nice to see.

We visited St Margaret's Nursing Home because it was recommended to us. Our first impressions were very favourable and we did not bother looking elsewhere. The manager visited mum for the assessment and we were very impressed with her. The care mum received was very good. Lots of interaction with activities,
also activities lady regularly took her out in a wheelchair which mum loved. In mum's last couple of weeks when she was very poorly, she received excellent one to one care from all the staff and was made very comfortable despite their pain and as a family, we were all supported by the manager and her staff.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.825)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.825) out of 10 for St Margaret's Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.650 for St Margaret's Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (43 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.65

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.175 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Margaret's Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 5 = 0.8

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
