Saltwood Care Centre is located on Tanners Hill, Hythe just a short walk from the shops and facilities of the High Street.

Recent extensions and refurbishments to the building, the latest completed in 2016, have created a delightfully spacious and airy environment in which to live, whether that be on a short or long-term basis.

The staff team are passionate about the caring service provided and are committed to providing the very best care for all of their residents.

All meals are nutritionally balanced and freshly prepared by the chef and the team using local ingredients wherever possible with varied menu choices available daily.

Saltwood Care Centre enjoys wonderful sea views and is set within beautiful grounds with patio areas that are accessible for residents to enjoy.

Saltwood Care Centre offers single occupancy accommodation in spacious and well-appointed rooms, the majority enjoying en-suite facilities or wet rooms.

A wide range of therapeutic and leisure activities are provided for all residents who wish to take part. They also regularly hold events to which families and friends are welcomed as well as providing special entertainment from outside organisations.

My mother was at Saltwood Care Centre receiving palliative care. The care she received was fantastic and she was treated like a member of the family, always with the utmost dignity and respect.
The staff were all caring and compassionate during this difficult time, not only for my mother but also for
me.
I will miss visiting the home and being part of this wonderful family.

Saltwood Care Centre provided a loving, happy and musical environment for a relative in his final months. He could not have been cared for better, the staff took over the role of a caring family to him. We are incredibly grateful for all they did for him.

My husband was at Saltwood Care Centre, receiving palliative care. The centre was beyond my expectations. The care was wonderful, staff helpful, caring and compassionate in an awful situation for my family. They made every effort to help us as well as my husband. Truly dedicated staff where nothing
was too much trouble. Will forever be grateful to them for all they have done.

My mother was transferred to Saltwood Care Centre for end of life care. The staff were extremely helpful and considerate from the moment of first contact. Although my mother's stay ended up being quite short, the care and treatment she received was superb. Mum was treated with the utmost respect and
dignity, in a lovely room - spending her last days in a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.

All the staff are very friendly and caring and thoughtful. She always looked nice and her clothes clean. Everyone always says good morning with a smile. This is a very good home. The food is great. She always ate her food and she enjoyed her food.

Saltwood Care Centre is very well managed by the manager, an extremely personable and dedicated manager, who listens to feedback and is frank and honest about her constraints, but determined to make appropriate, often innovative changes for the better wherever this is possible.
The kitchen produces
good meals and the activities staff are enthusiastic and put a great deal of effort into organising imaginative events and experiences for residents.
Based on our daily visits, we are pleased to say that all the nursing staff are excellent, as are the vast majority of the carers (although there are one or two who, we feel, fall somewhat short of the high standards of caring and kindness that we would expect of a care home like Saltwood Care Centre). Although in principle the staffing level is the same at weekends as it is on weekdays, it is our impression that Saltwood Care Centre is somewhat less well organised at weekends. We cannot comment on the night staff, as we did not encounter them.

My mother has been in Saltwood Care Centre for 8 months before her passing there. I cannot praise the staff enough for making her last months happy and comfortable. All the staff are so caring, professional and non-patronising.
She passed away peacefully in Saltwood and the nurses on duty were so caring
both to my mum and to the family.

My partner has advanced Alzheimer's and she has been with Saltwood Care Centre for the last seven months.
I am very impressed with the care centre at all levels and feel that she is in a safe and caring environment.
All the staff are approachable and I get constant feedback about her care.
I had

My Mum has been in care for over 6 Months. It was a very difficult decision to make. Initially Mum due to her Alzheimers disease could not understand why she was there. The staff at the home were so supportive sympathetic and encouraging. I was impatient at first wanting her life to be "perfect" and
through my guilt I was very demanding. However, at no time was I made to feel I was a nuisance. Mum gradually got used to the rhythm of life and the staff of course got to know Mums needs and to know her. Mum is now settled and I feel contented knowing she feels "at home" . I know she is safe, warm and well cared for on all levels. They are a good "team" from a friendly reception through care workers, housekeepers and nurses. Whenever I am with mum in the home staff always smile and greet her.
So a big thank you for caring for my mum and for me. A special Thanks to a member of staff in housekeeping who always has a smile and nothing I ask her is ever too much trouble...Mum really likes her!

Positive:


Kind, friendly staff. Beautiful setting.


Areas for improvement:


General communications with family!
Need to provide a guide for service users/family to explain what is and isn't available (eg, bring your own wheelchair, label your clothes or else laundry lose them, bring in supermarket

meals for staff to prepare, the family might need to organise eg physio)
Give resident autonomy to decide if they want to see GP outside the planned day of the week.
Ensure call bells are working and responded to.
Improve comms with family - inform them about medical situation and responses.
Improve housekeeping - tissues and dust bunnies under beds.


On balance: staff lovely, but management needs to tighten up on lots of areas.


While I can't fault individuals, I could have put my mother into a luxury hotel for 10 days for a lower price, she would have received a better quality of life and we could have bought in extra services.

I am sorry to hear about your mothers disappointing stay with us recently. We really appreciate your feedback raising these issues and hope you will give us a chance to put things right. As you raise many issues, I would like to comment on each point you raise so that people get a fair reflection of the service we provide:
1)   General communications with family. You are right, good communication with family members is indeed, extremely important. We have ample staff on duty at all times who are there to help as well as more senior staff being available either face to face or by phone or email to rectify any issues that may arise.
2)   Guide to service users/family. Again, you are right, there is a need for a guide, which is why we supply one. This should have been in your mother’s room on arrival but unfortunately it seems to have gone missing. This wasn’t noticed prior to your mother’s arrival and I can only apologise.
3)   Bring your own wheelchair. This is most certainly not necessary. We have an ample supply of wheelchairs and other equipment available for residents to use.
4)   Label your clothes or else laundry lose them. Yes, indeed we do ask that all clothes are labelled prior to admission as we have up to 65 other people in the building who are also having their clothes washed every day. If clothes are not labelled, it is really not surprising that they will take longer to find their rightful owner than if they are.
5)   Bring in supermarket meals for staff to prepare. This is certainly not normal practice as we cook a varied range of home-made meals every day.
6)   Give resident autonomy re GP. Unfortunately, this is totally outside of our control. Our GP visits once per week and meets with any resident who needs to see him.
7)   Ensure Call Bells are working. I am absolutely certain that our call bells are working and are responded to. During her 12 day stay, your mother used the call bell 290 times and these calls were answered within 3 minutes on 214 occasions. The few occasions where the response time was a little longer generally coincided with busy periods. Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee an instant response to every call bell alert.
8)   Improve housekeeping. I can only apologise if you feel the housekeeping was less than perfect and I will be taking this up with the Housekeeper to understand the issue and correct any issue going forward.


We are confident that we provide a very good standard of care to a wide variety of elderly clients at a value for money cost. It is a pity that these issues were not raised during your mother's stay as I am sure they would have been simple to rectify and made her experience a more satisfactory one.

Superb end of life care. Throughout our experience all managers and staff very caring, interested and supportive. Rooms/bathrooms kept clean and good quality communal areas always available.
Food and drink content good but meal was sometimes delayed, impacting or organising visiting times/outings.
Guests meals could be better managed. Overall an excellent experience which helped us all through a very difficult time. Thank you to everyone at Saltwood.

I can't recommend Saltwood Care Centre highly enough for the care they took of mum for the last nine months of her life. She couldn't have been treated with more patience, tenderness or compassion. Everything about the call centre was outstanding including the amazing varied entertainment. I am thankful
mum was able to spend the last days of her almost 102 years being looked after by the wonderful staff in such a loving environment.

Hi, My name is Sophie and I am the Registered Manager here at Saltwood Care Centre.


I have worked in the healthcare sector since 2008, I have worked in various different roles and developed my skills along my journey. I have worked for both private and public health providers.


I worked previously as a home manager and have supported a range of needs throughout my career including specialist Dementia and nursing care. I have gained qualifications such as my NVQ 5 in management & leadership.


I am passionate about delivering a high standard of care and making a difference in people's lives. For any person, family member or loved one, choosing a care home can be understandably difficult and I aim to make the transition as smooth as possible with care and understanding to all involved.


Sophie leads her team by example – being open, honest, and passionate about providing the best person-centred care for all residents. Sophie takes pride in her work, always giving her best and ensuring that Saltwood Care Centre is a special place for residents, their families, and the team at Saltwood.

My name is Maria Theresa Guerzon. My family and friends call me Terri but Maria at work. I have been working in the UK care industry for almost 21 years.


I completed my degree in Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Philippine Universities. I started working in England as a Senior Health Care Assistant, passed my Nursing adaptation and registered as a nurse in 2006. I completed my nursing adaptation at Philbeach Care Centre, which is now called Saltwood Care Centre. I studied further At Christ Church University and completed Leadership courses.?


I worked in different care settings as a nurse, agency nurse, clinical lead and Deputy Manager. This enabled me to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience and provided me with the tools to ensure that residents receive the very best care.? I love music. For me, music itself is healing. Sometimes patients call me “the singing nurse.” ?I am honoured to be part of the Integrum Care Group and to work alongside a great team at Saltwood Care Centre.

Natasha Jarvis

Job Title: Relations Experience Manager

I Joined SCC as a receptionist in Nov 2020, in the middle of the Covid lockdown, previously working in guest services.


Both my husband and sister work within the company and I was very aware of the effect covid was having within the care home industry and really wanted to help. My intention was to return to my old job but here I am over 3 years later and now a resident experience manager.


I have always had a great relationship with our resident's families and now I get to spend time with the residents too. I look after the domestic team, catering and reception. I also support The Home Manager, Sophie as much as possible. Sophie and I work very well together and enjoy a fantastic working relationship. Saltwood has a great team, and I am very proud of them daily.

Linda Writer

Job Title: Receptionist

My name is Linda Writer, I am originally from Ivory Coast in West Africa.


I have been working as a receptionist for Saltwood Care Centre since the 1st of June 2023.


My responsibilities include welcoming visitors and assisting with administrative duties as requested.


I previously worked as a dispenser for a local Chemist for 10 years.


I have worked with the public for over 20 years, and I enjoy helping and serving others.


Hayley

Hayley McLachlan

Job Title: Administrator

Hayley joined Saltwood Care Centre in March 2023 as the Home Administrator.


Her role is a key function to support the Home Manager and all members of staff which she does by managing the home administration efficiently. Amongst many duties, Hayley’s role incorporates overseeing staffing, rotas, recruitment and the onboarding of new members of staff.


Before joining Saltwood, Hayley worked in Care for 3 years. This is where she gained a good understanding of the care industry and where she found her passion for helping people by ensuring they receive a high level of care and support.


With over 25 years of previous experience as a Sales Manager for a large Insurance & Holiday company, an Office Manager for a manufacturing company and a Receptionist for a Doctors Surgery, Hayley offers a wealth of experience to Saltwood with knowledge in sales, quality assurance, project management, risk assessment, customer services and all forms of staff management.
