I found the Abbeycrest Nursing Home both welcoming and efficient. All staff were attentive, polite and good-humoured. The room was fine. The visitor pre-entry procedure during the Covid Pandemic was adhered to rigidly, and carried out punctually, and in a relaxed manner.

I had an important hospital procedure appointment so did not hesitate to make sure my husband was booked into Abbeycrest for a week. This being his second visit this year. The caring staff are extremely kind, welcoming and informative should information be required. The home has a warm, happy and cheerful
atmosphere. The ideal care/nursing home should respite care be needed. I will be booking a third visit for my husband later this year.

Overall happy with the care that my mother received especially as she had a temporary, unanticipated medical issue when she went in. Impressed with how quickly the local GP Surgery was engaged. The staff answered any questions that I had regarding her health and well-being. Was impressed how an issue
with my mother getting agitated about wishing to go home was dealt with in a caring and compassionate way. My only concern, which in no way reflects on Abbeycrest, was that my mother, whose condition isn't as advanced as that of the other residents that she was with, didn't get the social interaction with her peers that she needs - although the staff did their best to make up for this in terms of companionship. Overall my mother came home from her respite care happy, healthy and more chatty. Happy with the care that she received.

Respite care was excellent. A medical problem was identified (an infection before admission) and a local GP service was called in. They continued treatment and also identified other conditions and prescribed treatment which was successfully carried out by the Care Home staff. The respite care was beneficial
and well organised for example in making sure meals were taken and personal care needs attended to. There was perhaps less stimulation from interaction with other residents than hoped for possibly because their condition was more advanced.
Altogether a happy experience: leaving respite more communicative, more confident, relaxed, eating and sleeping better.

We needed respite care urgently for my parents when other arrangements had fallen through due to Covid and the management at Abbeycrest Nursing Home responded very efficiently and swiftly, accomplishing admission very quickly. My parents were well cared for with very nice rooms, and despite the loss
of independence and their own home environment settled reasonably well, enjoying the garden space and various seating areas beyond their rooms. Timing of meals were always an issue with an early lunch and evening meal but they were not there long enough to get into a new routine. The staff seemed very kind and caring although I did feel some over caution with regards to mobility, particularly with my mother who walked in but left needing a wheelchair only 4 weeks later. Overall I was pleased with Abbeycrest and the visiting arrangements would have gotten easier as restrictions were eased as this was sometimes difficult when visiting from a distance.

My dad spent the last few weeks of his life at Abbeycrest. He was very well looked after and I got a sense that the staff and manager really cared. When he moved into end-of-life care the home were very communicative and treated him with the dignity he deserved.

My Dad was only in the Abbeycrest Home for 3 weeks until he passed away. During that time he was very well treated. The care and professionalism of the staff I cannot fault. From the start they were very welcoming, Dad's needs were assessed, and he was made to feel at home. Every day when one of us
visited we would be told how he was doing. The rapport he had with the nurses was a joy to see with lots of laughter. When he passed they all treated us very well.

Staff could not have been more helpful and caring. Dad was only there a week before he sadly died, but so wished he had gone in sooner.
They catered for his last wishes and he was allowed to peacefully slip away.

The admission procedure from hospital was very well co-ordinated by Abbeycrest Nursing Home, particularly in light of the then Covid constraints. This was a real help. In the two/three months since then, it is clear that our friend has received an outstanding level of care. Those who have visited have
been impressed by the friendliness and efficiency of staff members. Although her levels of physical health and dementia have fluctuated greatly, she seems to be content with her life at Abbeycrest Nursing Home. For me administering her affairs generally, the level of communication from Abbeycrest Nursing Home and the parent company cannot be faulted.

My mother was unfortunately only a resident for three weeks as she passed away. However, I feel that she received excellent care during her short time in the home. I cannot make any further comments but the staff seemed to be very kind and caring.

Despite our Mum having limited capacity and being bedbound by the time she arrived at Abbeycrest Nursing Home, the care, compassion and kindness shown by the whole team was outstanding. The friendly welcome that the family received on arrival made a very sad few weeks much more bearable. But really
in this instance, it was the nursing care that was most needed and that far exceeded our expectations.

Our mother was cared for with dignity and compassion during her short stay. Staff were friendly and alert, checking in on a regular basis. Family members were met with friendly staff. Upon our mother's passing, we were shown a great deal of kindness.

My aunt has been a resident in Abbeycrest for 6 weeks. The nursing standard is good and they have managed to remove her catheter and she has regained continence. She likes the food and enjoys the activities. The staff are friendly and warm, they know her and make her feel that she belongs. She is still
coming to terms with her loss of autonomy. When I visited I was disappointed at the state of her room. Her clothes had been screwed up and shoved into drawers and her wardrobe. I spent a lot of time folding them up and tidying them. On her table was a dried-out vase with dried dead flowers. This must have been there for some time to be so dried out. She said she had only had one shower since admission and she has no towel. Indeed there were only paper towels in her bathroom. Overall I think she is warm, safe, and well-fed but her personal care is less good and she deserves better.

My first impressions were very good, welcoming, and helpful staff. However I only was able to visit my father on one occasion the day after he moved in as the home was then closed due to Covid, consequently am unable to provide a comprehensive review.

My experience of Abbeycrest is based on my Dad spending 3 and a half years as a resident there before he passed away in September 21. I have to say the care of the Abbeycrest staff was always so kind. I felt that as a family we had an open, collaborative relationship with the staff, and his main nurse
and the manager always made time to discuss any concerns we had which was so appreciated. Thank you Abbeycrest for making an extremely difficult and emotional 3 and a half years a little easier.

I am pleased with the standard of care for the friend I have in the care home. My friend suffers from dementia and is not physically fit. The carers understand her conditions and deal with her in a caring and sympathetic manner. The cleanliness of the home is of a high standard as is the food. There
are regular daily activities that provide companionship and stimulation. The care home is in regular contact and brings to my attention any concerns or issues they have with my friend.

Firstly thank you. We had an urgent need for a respite week for my father and setting it up was seamless and painless. We knew the home from you caring for my Dad's brother who required long-term 24x7 requirements and we already regarded it highly. During the time my father was with you we found the
home to be welcoming, very professional, communicative, responding to all the needs of my father. He is in much better shape now but we will not hesitate in coming back to you in future. Thank you again.

My Dad moved into Abbeycrest because his care needs were becoming too much for us, his children, and we all felt we would benefit from reclaiming the father/child relationship, knowing his death was imminent. He chose Abbeycrest because he was familiar with all the local care homes, having offered a
mobile audiology/hearing aid voluntary service in retirement. Abbeycrest he was clear was the best. Moving him in amongst Covid restrictions was traumatic but the home were excellent at trying their best to make contact possible and they put him in a downstairs room so we could come round to talk to him from the garden. There were some niggles at first but largely the staff, when informed, did their best to overcome them and the staff we interacted with were an absolute joy, communicating clearly with us on all important news, such as when he was rushed to hosptial with a heart attack. And then ultimately when the end neared. Overall I only have high praise.

I trained as a nurse in Hertfordshire and have maintained my registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, after qualifying I worked in A&E before stepping into the community in 2003 where I managed domiciliary care including complex care as clinical lead and then into a care home management.


It is important to me that my team feel valued and supported in their roles, as well as having the opportunity to develop so that our home can thrive and be a happy and beautiful home for everyone.

I grew up locally and even went to school up the road, I moved away to undertake my nurse training and am pleased to be back in the local area.
