Huntercombe Hall Nursing and Care Home is an elegant Victorian Manor House, providing residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 42 elderly residents, including trial stays, short stays, convalescent care and long-term care for individuals or couples.

Located over two floors, each ensuite room has a charming, welcoming atmosphere and an accessible lift links the ground and first floor. The home is a stunning Victorian property that has been sympathetically converted to a care home of distinction, stooped in history and provenance.

The stunning grounds surrounding Huntercombe Hall provide a haven of wildlife and are an idyllic location for residents to relax. The home sits within extensive beautifully landscaped gardens with level lawns, ideal for residents and visitors to enjoy when the weather permits. The home is located in the beautiful village of Nuffield, close to the picturesque towns of Nettlebed, Wallingford and a 15 minute drive from Henley on Thames. Just off the A4130, Huntercombe is well located for shops, facilities and amenities whilst enjoying views over rural countryside and woodland.

Staff at the home are as compassionate as they are experienced, and specialist training allows them to offer the highest standards of care to all residents, including those living with dementia. They work hard to establish an environment where residents feel comfortable, and plan activities to help keep them engaged and enjoying each day.

Terrible communication between staff and family members and invalidation of valid concerns regarding care practices. No following of set procedures related to liaising with essential outside organisations (GP, charity organisation etc) to the detriment of residents. Lack of basic care, compassion and
kindness, and no individual responsibility taken for the welfare of residents. In my experience residents are left in their rooms, without regular checks, and no checks were made over a 10-hour period. My initial impression was good, however, this was based on short periods in the home, now after spending numerous, continuous hours within this home. This has totally changed based on observations and experience. If you need ‘real’ care or want this for your loved ones, do not send them here. This home has not been reviewed for 5 years now, there is a culture of complacency.

My father entered the Huntercombe Care home in August 2020.
He passed away in October 2022 whilst in the care of Huntercombe, through old age.
He always appreciated the way he was looked after and the care he received. He sometimes complained about the variety of food on offer.
As his family, we
greatly appreciated the care and attention that he received.

My very dear friend has been at Huntercombe Hall Care Home for over a year now. Sadly his health continues to deteriorate but his positive attitude remains. I cannot fault the care and compassion shown by all the staff. The manager always has time to talk and I know has been very accommodating to the
family's wishes. He seems to know the residents well and has a lovely calming manner. He is supported by a super team of nurses and carers who are always very busy but never too busy to take time with all the residents. I know my friend is very happy there and I look forward to spending time with him in the stunning grounds as the weather improves.

My mother has been in your nursing home for some time now and although I would say that the decor is tired and dated the staffing care from everyone working and connected with the home is excellent. We are so happy to have chosen this nursing home for my mother as she is very happy and settled.
We
know that plans are afoot to update and modernise the building which will make this nursing home perfect.

All the staff are friendly and accessible. The nursing care is superb. My mother-in-law is very happy, she loves the food, especially the puddings! She loves to keep active and to chat with people and there are plenty of activities going on. She has an easy and kind relationship with the staff. She
also loves the cats that seem to be frequently sitting on her lap.
We are very impressed by the care and the easy communication with the staff. It feels like a real partnership for my mother-in-law and us, all working together to ensure her well-being and happiness.
At a recent family meeting, we were impressed with the plans put forward by the manager, and his great respect for the needs of the residents. The receptionist has an energetic, friendly 'can do' attitude which smooths the way ahead for residents and families. In essence, we know that good communication helps communities and we feel that good communication is at the heart of Huntercombe Hall.

I am extremely grateful for the 24-hour care and support shown to my dad. His health and well-being are very well cared for by all of the staff here. We as a family are kept up to date with any changes in my dad's health or care. I am so pleased to have found somewhere where Dad can get 24-hour nursing
care which we could not have received at home. I am reassured that Dad's future is better being here with all the care he receives daily.

My wife has been a resident here for over five years with dementia. I, myself having recently been fitted with a heart pacemaker, the home was able to offer me two weeks respite care, so I saw from the inside what goes on; on a day by day basis.
I have nothing but admiration for the staff from domestics,
carers, nurser and management by the way they cope. They do this by all helping at mealtimes to feed the mostly incapable residents who comprise about 97% of the total. There are not enough carers, but everybody pulls together as a well-knit team from top to bottom.

All the staff here are so lovely, kind and caring. They are so patient and nothing is ever too much trouble.
If ever I need to go into a nursing home, I want to come to this one.
There's a vast variety of entertainment every day and individual attention to each resident whether they are in the lounge

Every time I visit my Mum I am struck by the professionalism of the caring staff. The medical supervision and care are particularly strong. In the five years that Mum has been at Huntercombe, she (and we) have been treated with dignity and affection by the caring staff.
In terms of the building itself,
we appreciated the makeover that the dementia section of the home received. Recently, however, the lift in the dementia section has been out of order. This seems to me to be a serious health and safety risk - especially as, when we tried to take Mum downstairs for a change of scene - the other lift was also temperamental. Can you reassure us that both lifts will be restored to safe service as soon as possible, please?

Mum spent over6 years at Huntercombe before she passed away. She had considerable needs and we don't underestimate what was involved in caring for her. The carers were always polite, friendly and competent, both with Mum and visiting family, and they were communicative and attentive regarding any concerns.
A couple of members of staff were with her throughout her long stay, and that continuity of friendship and care was really important to Mum's welfare and happiness. I imagine that's fairly rare in the industry. We are also grateful to the unsung heroes involved with entertainment, laundry, catering, cleaning and maintenance who help make the home such a positive environment.

I was in Huntercombe for 8 weeks convalescence. It is an attractive building, set in woodland and close to the National Trust property, Nuffield House. The rooms are all pleasant and well furnished. The building was scrupulously clean and fresh smelling. From the first, I found staff at Huntercombe
attentive and helpful, they were smiling and polite, never inpatient. Helpfulness is perhaps the main feature of the place. The food was very good, especially after a hospital diet. Various activities were organised for residents each day and were well supported by those able and inclined to do so. In summary, my wife and I strongly recommend this place.

My mum lived at Huntercombe Hall Care Home for the last two years of her life, passing away peacefully there in July.
She was struggling with dementia and at times, I imagine, was not an easy person to look after. However, throughout her stay at Huntercombe, I was deeply impressed by the affectionate
care the staff gave her. That goes for all the staff I came into contact with, from cleaners to nurses and managers. They created a warm and happy atmosphere and I know my mum became very fond of them.
Towards the end of her life, my mum was confined to bed and particularly during this period I was struck by how much trouble the staff took to make her comfortable, even attending to small but important things like brushing her hair.
When she passed away their genuine sadness was very touching and I was very happy that some of them were able to come to the funeral.

“My role requires a blend of leadership, empathy, and strong organisational skills to maintain a high standard of care and operational excellence.


I bring over 13 years of clinical experience in healthcare, during which I have had the privilege of working in various care settings. My background includes acute nursing, community, palliative, dementia, and care management.


During the past 12 years, I have worked predominantly in nursing homes. I have always been deeply committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care that truly enhances the lives of residents.


I am passionate about care standards and making a positive impact on the day-to-day experiences of our residents. My goal is to foster an environment that is not only safe and supportive but also enriching and joyful.


Henley-on-Thames combines a natural beauty, a strong community spirit, and a wealth of cultural experiences making it a truly delightful place to visit or live. I live in Wokingham, but I visit Henley-on-Thames regularly with my partner. The town is full of historical charm and the cultural attractions are beautiful.”
