  • The Langston Residential & Nursing Home, Chipping Norton
The Langston was built by the Earl of Ducie as a hunting lodge with stabling for forty horses in the 1870s. It was built using stone from the private quarry of his father-in-law, Squire Langston. It later became a popular hotel.

In 1985 it was turned into a residential home. The property was chosen not only for its suitability in having wide corridors and no steps within the building, but also for its beautiful setting with lovely views over the Cotswolds in all directions.

The Langston Nursing Home was awarded the rating of 'Good' in every area that was inspected by the CQC and the overall rating awarded following the inspection was 'Good' (October 2022). In 2022, The Langston Nursing Home was awarded a national Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Quality Hallmark Award for its delivery of end-of-life care during the pandemic.

The rooms are spacious and warmly decorated to make the residents feel at home. High-quality care from well-trained staff is offered, giving residents the opportunity to make their own choices and live as independently as possible in a safe environment.

My close friend was a resident at the Langston for 14 months. She was always treated with kindness, compass and courtesy.
The management and staff got to know her very well ( including secretary, cooks and domestic staff). Her needs were met wherever possible.
As end of life approached she was
reassured that her wishes would be fulfilled ( as far as medically possible). For example not going to hospital and oxygen being available if she needed it. She was made comfortable with sensitivity and care and continually checked on.
I visited often, was welcomed and cared for.
Some residents had dementia and their behaviour unpredictable. Nonetheless staff were patient and kind. An example of this; I was sometimes there late at night and saw folk still up in pyjamas, in the living room wrapped up cosily in a blankets as they didn't want to go to bed till later.
I would definitely recommend the Langston and would like to thank them publicly for the care of my dear friend.

The gentleman I care for went into respite care for ten days. He settled in straight away and was very well cared for by all the staff. I was able to visit with him at various days and times and on arrival always found him happy and settled. The staff were very hospitable and kind to family visiting
as well. I have certainly no hesitation in recommending them and using them again in the future. The gentleman on respite was happy so makes me his main carer happy. Thank you all for having him and looking after him so well.

I am really pleased that I changed homes for my brother and brought him closer to where I live though he can be difficult at times I feel the staff at The Langston are kind, caring and extremely attentive towards him. I always find everyone friendly when I arrive to see him and always ask if I want
any refreshments or lunch if I am there when meals are served.

I recently visited my stepfather with some other family members. We walked in during an activity session which was great to see. The staff as ever were so kind towards not only my stepfather but all of us too. The home is always so clean and well taken care of and more importantly, so is my stepfather.
We have always found the staff to be attentive, patient and kind towards the residents which we find very reassuring in difficult circumstances.

I went to the Langston’s Priory in Kingham to see my stepfather and was really surprised at how pleasant the experience was. The place was clean, warm and friendly, and the staff really friendly and kind and very caring to me - let alone my stepfather. I think I expected something totally different
and was a little shocked at how, much more pleasant the visit was than I thought it was gonna be and this had a lot to do with the staff. Very friendly and very caring. I’m coming back to the States in two days and I’m not gonna worry about I am as much as I did. Now that I know he is being cared for by such lovely caring people - it’s a very hard job and I’m very difficult job and it takes a very special person to do that job so thank you

My mother moved into The Langston two months ago. The staff have been welcoming, professional and supportive, and she feels settled and looked after. The staff brought her to our home last week when they had the use of a minibus, and my mother had a wonderful day out. She had also had two very enjoyable
day trips in the minibus the previous week, which gave her confidence. It would be very helpful if the home had their own minibus.

My experience was excellent from the off. My father was accepted into the nursing home for his last weeks of life. The management and staff were all so friendly and kind, nothing was too much trouble. I was greeted at the door and instantly offered tea or coffee. Although my father was only in the home
for two weeks, I was happy that he was so well cared for, I could not have asked for more. The cleanliness of the home was outstanding, whatever he required he got, it was a plus that there are no set visiting times, you are welcome any time. Brilliant all-round. Thank you.

My father is a resident of The Langston Residential & Nursing Home, He suffers from dementia. All staff are so kind, patient and understanding and we know that dad is getting 1st class care. Always quick to contact you with any concerns and we are more than happy with the care he is receiving. We are
so grateful that The Langston is close by and I visit every day and always find him happy and settled which is a great to see. I cannot recommend The Langston enough for their compassion and for always being professional making every resident feel like they are in a family environment. The Langston is a very well run Nursing Home and the standard of care is extremely high. The staff are caring, respectful and mindful of the dignity of the residents and they are always on hand to see to their needs. Families are always made welcome when they visit and always greeted with a smile at
the door. It is the hardest thing to put your loved ones in a nursing home but I know he is well looked after here and couldn’t wish for better care.

My father was a resident of The Langston Residential & Nursing Home from June 2021 until his death in February 2023. He suffered from Parkinson's and dementia and was 96 when he passed away. Throughout his time there his care was absolutely first-rate. I have crossed paths with dozens of staff and without
exception, they have been gentle, considerate and extremely patient. Overall, the home has perfected the blend of combining the very professional with the very personal and I could not help but be struck by how much individual members of staff personally cared for the wellbeing of my dad, and, I must say, as my dad was in his final days, for me too. It genuinely provides peace of mind to know that my dad's final couple of years were lived in the company of people who made him feel safe, happy and loved. I cannot commend The Langston more highly.

My grandmother has been a resident at the Langston Residential Home for almost two years, the home has been brilliant in communicating with the family with regards to her health. We cannot thank the nursing staff enough in helping to reduce hospital admission which can be very distressing for her.
The
home has been welcoming to all our family, and we appreciate them letting us personalise her room and putting a bird feeder up outside her window, to make her feel more at home.
They have a wide range of activities available and plenty of fresh homemade cakes.

I have nothing but praise for the incredible staff at The Langston. Experienced, knowledgeable, highly professional and kind, they do a terrific job that our family are extremely grateful for. It's a testament to the quality of management that the home reacted to the Covid crisis immediately and probably
way ahead of the game. So they've been able to effectively protect both residents and staff from the start, whilst also being sensitive to the emotional needs of residents and their visitors. The only reason I've submitted four, rather than five, stars for facilities is the lack of outside space. Clearly, several lockdowns have prevented some planned works. So I hope that cost/budget permitting, they'll be able to make some improvements in this area. It's also worth pointing out that The Langston has a very close relationship with the local GP practice, which I think is another huge plus point. In a nutshell, an excellent nursing home.

My mother-in-law has been at The Langston Residential & Nursing Home for several years now and we have been extremely happy with the professional service and personal care that she has received. The staff are always cheerful, caring and kind. Mother-in-Law has been very well looked after. The staff
did a sterling job through all the lockdowns of Covid-19.
You can drop by anytime and share a cup of tea to a meal with your loved one. No reasonable request has ever been denied.
We are so grateful that The Langston is close by. We looked at many nursing homes before we chose The Langston, it was by far the most homely and friendly. They have lots of interesting visitors from magicians, and musical performers to the local vicar. The in-house craft ladies also do a wonderful job. The Langston is clean, warm and comfortable with a fantastic house team.

It's always a pleasure to visit The Langston Residential & Nursing Home. The home is friendly and warm. The staff are available to tend to all the residents' needs. When I visited today, the home had a lovely new look with decorators doing a lovely job of making the home bright and fresh. It's this
