At 99 years of age, my mum moved to The Old Prebendal House after a terminal diagnosis meant that she could no longer live in her own flat.
We couldn't be more pleased with the care that she received. Everyone was so kind and the whole atmosphere of the place helped her feel at home and gave the family
confidence that she was in the right place.

My mother spent the last few weeks of her life in this wonderful place from October to December 2017.
The Old Prebendal can claim to be outstanding, in my view, not only due to the homeliness and comfort of it being a genuine and not a purpose-built home, but because every single member of staff treated
my mother with the care and dignity that she deserved.
The kindness and affection shown towards her was very heartwarming, given the trauma she had been through during three months in hospital.
I visited frequently and was always welcomed with a smile. I knew all the carers and nurses by name and everyone was friendly and approachable as well as hugely supportive during the last three weeks when her health declined by the day.
I would not hesitate in recommending this home to anyone who, unable to look after their loved one at home, would like the reassurance that they are being well cared for by genuinely caring and very experienced staff.
With heartfelt gratitude to you all,
Thank you.

This is an excellent home. The staff are all very caring and compassionate. The manager is very professional and takes a personal interest in every resident. The home supported my mother through some difficult medical problems and at all times her treatment and care was of the highest standard and there
was good communication with family members.

My Mother stayed at Prebendal House at a particularly vulnerable, both physically and mentally, stage in her life. The care was both caring and professional.
The home is run like an extended family and she was very happy and comfortable in the home. She would happily return to their care when the
time comes.
Prebendal is a very friendly community and most welcoming. The home is elegant and comfortable and the food is excellent.

My mother in law recently spent just over a week at the The Old Prebendal House for respite.

It was a difficult and anxious time for us as she has only ever been cared for by family and she has poor eyesight and hearing, but we needn’t have worried!

The care staff and nurses were amazing and

we couldn’t have looked after her better ourselves. So much so that she was quite tearful leaving all her “lovely people” as she put it!

Thank you, everyone, for making her little holiday and ours so smooth and carefree!

Most beautiful setting and buildings. Care staff first rate. Management congenial, food well gauged to be acceptable but avoid over-eating. Strongly recommended.

My mother was a resident at Old Prebendal House from January 2009 following a serious stroke, followed by very poor treatment at hospital. She arrived with grade 4 bed sores, bed ridden, doubly incontinent and in a poor state. The nursing staff at Old Prebendal House managed to heal the bed sores, to
care for her in a humane, sensitive way and latterly to cope with her increasingly demanding mood swings. Not the most practical of spaces or the best equipped home, the care, nevertheless was excellent. Mostly mum was happy, was treated as an individual and I as a regular visitor, felt that is was very much her home.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.538)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.538) out of 10 for The Old Prebendal House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.963 for The Old Prebendal House is calculated as follows: ( (77 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 80 Ratings = 4.963

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.575 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Prebendal House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.875

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
