I am surprised by some of the glowing reviews on this site. Rush Court used to be a fantastic care home when our mother became a resident back in 2016. It had a CQC "Outstanding" rating at that time and there was a waiting list to get a place there. Sadly the manager at that time left a few years later
and, under a new manager, many of the good staff left and the standards of care declined. Since then several managers have come and gone, with promises to improve things, but in reality, high staff turnover and massive use of agency staff have resulted in a significant drop in standards. The beautiful gardens remain the high point of the care home thanks to the efforts of the gardener. It remains to be seen whether EFHL and the latest new manager will get the place back up to the level that residents once enjoyed. Our mother is running out of time, so we really hope that they can improve things soon.

Myself and Efhl recognise Rush Court has been through a difficult time in the past couple of years, and are committed to driving forward improvements. In recent months we have worked hard to recruit to key management roles within the team and permanent colleagues, reducing our reliance on agency use. I strive to respond in a timely manner to feedback, both negative and positive, that will ultimately help us to continually improve. I am confident that with the support of the new Clinical Care Manager and Unit Manager, who will be taking up post shortly, we can restore the home to the standards that you and we expect.

My husband was a patient from January 20th 2023 to March 8th 2023 for palliative and end-of-life care.
The staff were all kind and professional and my husband enjoyed the food. He was always treated with respect and dignity. We are most grateful.

How lucky we were to have found Rush Court for the last weeks of my father's life. His wish was to be at home but on reflection, this was the best thing we could have done at the end of his long and happy life. The management, facilities and staff work in perfect harmony to create the most caring atmosphere

For the three and a half years my mother was in Rush Court she received the best care and attention. I was very reassured that she was well looked after which meant a lot being three hour drive away. From the moment we walked through the door the staff welcome you with a smile. They all got to know my father's changing needs as soon as they could. From receptionists, cleaners, carers, maintenance, nurses and managers their care is wonderful. They would also look out for us as family members. They
do like their residents to call it their home. My father came for end-of-life care and a room with a view was found for him. It was very homely.

Rush Court have cared for and protected my mother throughout the pandemic and I have felt her to be safe all this time. They have been clear regarding their visiting policy which has changed as needed and although I am very sad not to have been able to hug my mother, hold her hand or even to be with
her for long stretches, Rush Court has helped us to maintain contact despite the increased pressures of running a care home.

Mum was terminally ill and too poorly to come home when she went to stay at Rush Court. As a family, we found this very difficult due to the Covid restrictions put in place to keep residents and staff safe. Every member of staff we spoke to on the phone, through the window and when being Covid tested
when mum reached end of life, were kind and thoughtful, as well as professional. This meant the world to us during extremely hard times. I know that mum was well cared for during her time at Rush Court and nothing was too much trouble. Mum's passing was dealt with in such a thoughtful manner and I am so grateful to the kind nurse who took the time to sit with me, listen to me waffle on and cry with me... You don't forget those acts of kindness. There were many staff members who made mum's time at Rush Court as comfortable as possible. Each nurse or carer that smiled or chatted through the window at me made a difference. I would have no hesitation in recommending Rush Court.

As a family, we were very impressed with the care provided not just to Mum, but also kind consideration to family members. Covid measures were kindly explained to us at the beginning of Mum's stay. All staff we came into contact with were really lovely and my overwhelming impression of the home was
that it was extremely clean, comfortable, calm and welcoming. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rush Court to others.

My mother has been a resident at Rush Court for 4 years. Over this time we have been impressed with the level of professionalism displayed by all staff. More than that it is so lovely to be greeted in a friendly cheerful manner when you are visiting. This could be anyone from the cleaner to the manager.
It helps make it feel homely. In normal times the level and variety of activities are very good. The highlights are those occasions when the staff and their families are included.
During the current pandemic when the news has been so frightening Rush Court has risen to the challenge. Yes, the restrictions have been significant but they have kept our families and the wonderful team of staff safe. This has to be commended.
I would recommend Rush Court wholeheartedly.

Clifford Hutchings

I have worked in Adult Social Care since the mid-1980s, starting out as Volunteer, and working my way up into Management in the early 1990s.


During my career, I have worked both within the Public & Private sector, managing services ranging from small group homes for young adults with a physical and/or learning disability to large Nursing & Residential Homes. Whilst my background is not in nursing, I have developed extensive knowledge & understanding of the clinical aspects of care.


I am passionate about supporting older people and providing the highest standards of care that are truly person-centred. I believe to achieve this comes from engaging individuals whose personal value base is aligned with that my own and the ethos of EFHL. I am committed to supporting my colleagues to develop themselves both personally & professionally through coaching, mentoring & training, and empowering them to be their best.
