Barchester Ashford House Care Home is located near Staines, in the village of Stanwell.

The home provides 24-hour expert care for people living with dementia in the specialist Memory Lane Community.

It is proud to be one of the first homes to be accredited as part of Barchester’s Dementia Care programme, reflecting the enhanced quality of dementia care and improved quality of life experienced by the residents at Ashford House.

A team of highly-qualified and attentive staff really focuses on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person.

Staff's dedication can be seen across the board - in the cooking, hospitality and organised activities for residents.

Activities are tailored to the individual interests of residents and there is an ongoing life box project in which residents can compile memories and treasured items. Other activities include pet therapy and musical entertainment.

Ashford House is a fantastic place for my mum with Alzheimer's. She is so well looked after here. She is happy and comfortable. The staff are hard working and friendly.

Having met the manager and her relatively new team by Zoom on Friday 30th Oct my reaction was one of reassurance that Ashford House is in good hands! I am fortunate in having been able to (Covid secure) externally visit my partner regularly and have from a safe distance been able to 'interact' with
various members of staff. This has been of such value to me; being reassured that best practice is being carried out in these challenging times, for the residents, staff and relatives. To say they all go the extra mile is truly an understatement.
Words almost seem inadequate to express the sterling job you are all doing but my "thank you" is heartfelt.

My dad has been in this home for three years with dementia. Before this home, I struggled to find him the right care. They have all been amazing, he has received the best care and I can't fault them in any way. I'm really happy with everything they do. What an amazing team. Highly recommended.

My sister and I have been very happy with the way our father has been cared for in the last three years. The staff are very nice and he seems to have a very good relationship with all of them.
The home is always clean and tidy and staff are always very helpful.
Dad seems quite content now and hopefully
will be for much longer.

My father took residence at Ashford House in April 2019 when his dementia became too bad for him to remain at home.
I was very reluctant to have him placed into care, as I felt I was taking away his independence, but the staff at Ashford House encouraged him to join in with the activities and he was
given every opportunity to mingle with the other residents (although, like at home, he generally preferred to stay in his room and watch TV!). Although he was always happy, his health deteriorated through cancer and dementia, and he passed away Christmas Eve. Throughout the bad times, the staff were always compassionate and caring and did everything possible to keep him comfortable.
They were a massive support to me as I live in France and continually felt helpless.
I cannot recommend the care home and staff enough - bright and cheerful building, and truly amazing staff.

My father has dementia and moved into Ashford House in October 2019 so this was his first Christmas away from his own home. I and my husband joined him Christmas Day, we had a lovely day, the home had a great atmosphere, and several other families did the same. The Christmas dinner was very good, we
had starter tomato soup, Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, Christmas pudding to finish.
Several family members have visited Dad and have been very impressed with the home, and found the staff very caring and patient.
It’s great that you can visit at any time, always greeted with a smile everyone management and staff are very approachable and always willing to give help and support.

Ashford House has a bright and friendly and clean environment. Management and staff always welcoming even when no appointment to visit.

Started visiting many years ago when an elderly man from the church became a resident. I was then asked by the activities co-ordinator to join the C of E and RC folk on Friday mornings - many opportunities to pray, sing and encourage them. A lady in our Alzheimer's group went into a care home in Staines
but her husband was upset by her lack of care and I recommended Ashford House and she has been here for many years since. All staff are kind, caring and helpful and provide different activities for them - I would be very happy to recommend it again.

This is my first experience of a care home. My wife has dementia and is very well cared for at Ashford House. The home is bright and airy and the individual rooms are of good quality. Most important of all is the staff are very caring and look after the residents with a cheerful disposition even when
conditions become challenging. It is a comfort to me that my wife of 56 years of marriage is happy in Ashford House.

Dad has now been in the home for two years. It is not an easy decision placing a loved one in a home but from the first time we entered Ashford House, there was a warm welcoming feeling.
The main issue is a shortage of staff, especially the carers. Having said that I cannot fault the staff.
I am always
greeted with smiling faces and dad generally seems very settled.
The nursing staff keep us well informed and are always happy to discuss any issues. The cleaners do an excellent job and the food is of a good standard. The activities team do their best but it is a shame that they don't have the time for one to one chatter.
In short, a well-run home that would benefit from more carers.

My dad has been in Ashford House for about 8/9 months now and I can honestly say, there has been so much improvement in him and his health. He tells me he is happy and well looked after.
The staff here do an amazing job and look after Dad and others very well. You can see that residents are happy in
their home and are being well cared for. The level of care, cleanliness, laundry, cooking and activities is well run and could only be improved if there were more staff to make that happen.
I would recommend this care home to all families who have a family member who has Dementia as the care they supply is much better than what you can do at home, as it is 24 hours and you know your family member is being looked after at the highest level.

At a very difficult time for everyone and Mum not wanting to go into care support from the whole team was excellent. Any problems that did arise were handled carefully with as little trouble to Mum.


As for value for money, that's an issue the government should be looking at. It's a very unfair society.

Working hard all of your life and then not being supported is a major issue.

Dad had Alzheimers and had gone from living independently in February 2017 to being unable to feed or dress himself by June 2017. He had been in hosptial from Feb - June and it was traumatic to see him deteriorate. While at Barchester, he has begun to improve, to gain weight and was always calm and
happy.
This was due to the care and considerate attention he received. It was clear that he was always treated with respect and staff patiently engaged with him and encouraged him to eat. He was always clean and clearly well cared for.

Since my 97-year-old Mother-in-Law had been under the care of Barchester Ashford house since October 2017 we as a family are extremely pleased with the standard of her care. Therefore, despite her ways and mannerisms and difficulties, we have observed, on our visits, how the carers have gone the extra

On first visiting the home we felt not only welcome but impressed with the knowledge of all the staff and how friendly they all were, plus the big thing the home did not smell of urine or bleach. The room dad stayed in was furnished lovely and always warm and clean.
The lady who does the events was
extremely good with dad and helpful, always a smile on her face. As one special carer always so caring and supportive to both dad and the rest of the family.
The food was always hot and looked well presented and tasted lovely even though dad had to leave.

I have been a nurse for many years and have continued to develop my skills in nursing people living with Dementia through the excellent development training that Barchester Healthcare has offered me. I am privileged to have this opportunity


Working in a dementia environment is a very rewarding career. I feel residents treat us as their own family as you can feel the genuine response from them, their trust, acceptance and the lovely smiles on their faces. It’s such a pleasure to care for them.

I qualified as a nurse in Romania. In 2000 I started working with Barchester and in 2003 progressed to the role of senior carer while waiting for my PIN number.


I continued as a nurse afterwards. I’m grateful for the experience that I have gained working with Barchester to improve my skills and the training that has been provided by the company.
