All the staff at Buxton Lodge Care Home in Caterham look after my wife very well, showing care and compassion. She has settled in well and seems very happy. She has engaged well with the other residents and also enjoys the various range of activities laid on by the staff. We, as a family, try to support
as many of the events as we can and we are always made to feel very welcome.

My sister-in-law has been in Buxton Lodge Care Home just a few weeks. She has learning difficulties and limited communication but she has settled in well. The staff are very kind, caring and supportive and it is a comfort to know she is being well looked after. Most importantly, in herself, she seems
happier and more comfortable.

I just want to say how impressed we were with the team at Buxton Lodge Care Home in Caterham. My mum was a resident whilst recovering from a fall with a dislocated and fractured shoulder.
The team were amazing and was just so reassured when I visited and Mum was really well looked after. They looked
after her as though she was a family member and I recommend them.
We had great communication which was just so reassuring.

My mum has been receiving excellent help and care from all the staff in Buxton Lodge Care Home. You are always made to feel welcome as a visitor and there are no restrictions on visiting times. The activities are varied and are helping with Mum's recovery and encourage interaction between residents
and staff. Photos and information on activities can be viewed on the notice board.
Her room is spacious with views of the garden and the lounge/shared areas are bright and clean.

Care homes are (apart from the residency) all about the quality of the staff. The staff caring for my friend were exceptional and the improvement in my friend's well-being I can only assume is due to their excellent interaction with him. Great job and so pleased.

The rooms were very nice and well kept though most on the small side is the residents wished to have their own furniture, there wasn't really enough room. The staff were very attentive and caring at all times. The food was mostly excellent but for a few days not so good when supplies seemed to be a
problem but I picked up again. The activities were very good and the staff tried very hard. Overall happy with the home.

My mother who has dementia and mobility issues has settled in well. It is a clean and safe environment. Staff are always pleasant and listen to any concerns. The manager is very approachable and deals very quickly with medical issues.

Buxton Lodge Care Home is a lovely care home, so warm and friendly. The staff are so caring and kind and work so very hard to meet the needs of all the residents. Mum has been at Buxton Lodge Care Home for nearly five months, the staff are lovely and very caring and always treat Mum with respect. The manager is always available to answer questions and will always take any concerns seriously, and acts upon them immediately.
Mum says she is happy there, and her
eyes light up when any of the staff come into her room, and they are very nice to her.
The food is of good quality, and Mum clears her plate at every meal.
I would recommend Buxton Lodge to anyone who needs care/nursing for a relative as I trust them to look after her, and I know she is happy there.

This place is despicable in how they recently handled the recent passing of my father-in-law, zero compassion or empathy apart from about 5 of the carers, one carer in particular would shout at the residents and talk down to them when they are clearly distressed and confused from their illnesses. They
completely messed up our requests for certain items to go with my father-in-law to the cremation company, who I must say were amazing and so helpful. When we spoke to the manager after the event she said about why the things weren’t sent to the cremation company “that these things don’t go according to plan sometimes” and blamed the cremation company that the items weren’t allowed to go with my father-in-law but when calling the cremation company this was a complete lie. While I was there I also saw staff playing on their phones, sleeping or just watching TV and not caring about the residents nearby who needed to be cared for. The manager is just damn right rude and doesn’t care about her job.

As an advanced dementia sufferer, my wife eventually needed full-time care and I inspected a number of care homes in the district with a view to her becoming a resident. Buxton Lodge Care Home came high on the list of options and became the final choice.
During my wife's residence, I made frequent
visits to see her and always found that my expectations of Buxton Lodge were fulfilled. The staff and managers appeared capable, responsible and genuinely caring towards patients, almost as if the patients were members of their own families and I found staff to be pleasant, cooperative and easy to deal with. I was particularly gratified by the sensitive manner in which my wife's eventual death was dealt with. Overall, I formed a high opinion of Buxton Lodge Care Home and would be happy to stay there myself if it ever became necessary.

My mother has now been in Buxton Lodge for six months and is very happy there. I have been touched to see how kind, friendly and caring the staff are (even when extremely busy), and they always take time to chat with her.
In particular, I have been impressed with the manager as whenever I have raised
a query or concern, she has responded in a very timely way and helped resolve the matter. This helps give me peace of mind, knowing that my mother is being looked after so well.
My siblings and I are extremely grateful to everyone there.

When Dad moved to Buxton Lodge Care Home he received the very best of care. The staff treated him with great kindness, patience and good humour, yet always respected his dignity. He was content and comfortable and had a good quality of life until his peaceful end.

In my visits to Buxton Lodge Care Home I’ve come across some very lovely and caring members of staff who treat my gran with kindness and respect. The communal areas and her bedroom are kept very clean and tidy and they also have a lovely garden.
My gran is relaxed and content there. The team make
sure to dress her nicely and make such an effort with her hair. They even paint her nails beautifully which is so lovely for me to see as she was always very glamorous when she was able to look after herself.
They have been very accommodating with her dietary needs and she has drinks and food that she really enjoys all throughout the day.
The staff make such an effort to provide a friendly, jovial atmosphere and they play a lot of music and encourage singing which my gran loves. It’s amazing to see her come back to herself when certain songs are playing.
Thanks so much to the Buxton team for taking such lovely care of my gran.

We looked at several care homes for my aunt, and we knew that Buxton Lodge was the one the minute we walked in. There was such a warm welcome when we arrive. Buxton Lodge was bright and airy, clean, smelt clean and looked well maintained. The manager answered all our questions and gave good professional
advice and support when moving her from the hospice to Buxton Lodge for end-of-life care.
She has been so well cared for, and we have been well supported by the staff, and we have always been made to feel welcome.
We definitely made the right choice in choosing Buxton Lodge. We can't thank them enough for helping us through a very difficult time and caring for her so well.

The management and staff are very attentive. They listen to our requests concerning my mum's individual needs and react accordingly. My mum is very happy with the care she is receiving and always comments on how nice the meals are. The manager responds to any email questions or requests very promptly,
which is a very helpful extra communication line to have. The nurse is also available to discuss any particular issue whenever needed. All the staff are kind and friendly and have taken the time to get to know Mum - thank you all.

Maria Wedd

Job Title: General Manager

Maria Wedd joined Buxton Lodge as the Home Manager in 2024, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a deep passion for elderly care. Her career in care began as an apprentice when she was just 17 years old. By the age of 21, Maria had already become a Registered Manager in community care, showcasing her early dedication and capability in the field.


Six years ago, Maria transitioned into residential and nursing home management, where she discovered a true passion for the work. Her varied experience has equipped her to support individuals with a wide range of ailments and conditions, making her well-prepared to handle any situation that arises. Maria holds a Level 5 Management and Leadership qualification and a law degree, further enhancing her ability to lead and manage effectively.


Maria loves working with the elderly, finding joy in hearing their stories and supporting them to maintain as much independence as possible in their later stages of life. She is dedicated to supporting not only the residents but also their loved ones, navigating difficult times with compassion and teamwork.


Outside of her professional life, Maria enjoys spending time with her five-year-old son, who keeps her on her toes. She loves being outdoors and helping others, reflecting her caring nature in all aspects of her life. Maria is also an avid cocktail fan, enjoying the creativity and relaxation that comes with mixing and tasting new concoctions.

Keith Turner

Job Title: Care Team Lead

Joined: 2016

Keith Turner joined Buxton Lodge in January 2016 as a part-time carer, bringing with him a dedication to providing compassionate care. Over the years, his commitment and skills have seen him rise through the ranks, becoming a Senior Carer in 2023 and stepping into the role of Care Team Leader in August 2024.


Buxton Lodge holds a special charm for Keith, with its quirky character and rich history. He is passionate about helping to create a relaxed and welcoming environment for both residents and staff, where teamwork is at the heart of everything. Keith acknowledges that, like any team, there are challenges, but believes in learning and growing together to continuously improve the quality of care provided.


For Keith, the most rewarding part of his role is building relationships with residents and their families. He values hearing from family members about how their loved ones have settled into life at Buxton Lodge, giving them peace of mind. Witnessing a resident’s progress from needing significant support to achieving greater independence is a testament to the exceptional care and teamwork that Keith leads.


Keith holds a Level 4 City and Guilds Diploma in Health and Social Care and a Level 3 qualification in End of Life Care. His journey into the care sector was inspired by a personal family trauma, which motivated him to make a difference in the lives of others. Prior to his career in care, Keith was a qualified prototype electronics engineer, a background that reflects his adaptability and diverse skill set.


Outside of work, Keith enjoys fishing and walking, often exploring new places to relax and unwind. His passion for discovering new experiences mirrors his dedication to continually improving the lives of residents at Buxton Lodge. Keith’s leadership and empathetic approach make him a vital part of the Buxton Lodge team, ensuring residents receive the highest standard of care in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Charlotte Bickers

Job Title: Well-being Coordinator

Joined: 2017

Charlotte is the dedicated Wellbeing Coordinator at Buxton Lodge, where she has been a valued team member for seven years. Her journey into care began when she transitioned from a career in hairdressing, a profession she had pursued since the age of 16. Driven by a desire to make a difference, Charlotte immersed herself in learning and achieved her NVQ 2 and Diploma 2 within her first four months at Buxton Lodge.


Passionate about enhancing the lives of residents, Charlotte’s dedication to her role has been unwavering. In her current position as Wellbeing Coordinator, a role she stepped into four months ago, she has already introduced a variety of engaging and enriching activities. Terri Felstead joined Buxton Lodge in September 2021, initially working as a carer during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Motivated by a desire to make a meaningful difference, Terri embraced the opportunity to help others, supported by the comprehensive training and encouragement provided at Buxton Lodge. Reflecting on her early days, she describes the joy of knowing she has brightened someone’s day as one of the most rewarding aspects of her role.


Around 18 months into her journey, Terri stepped in to provide cover in the kitchen and discovered an unexpected passion for cooking. Eager to learn and develop, she embraced the challenges of the culinary world and has since progressed to the role of Head Chef. Terri takes pride in creating person-centred menus, engaging with residents and their families to understand preferences and ensure mealtimes are both enjoyable and meaningful.


Terri’s commitment to excellence is evident in her professional development. She has achieved her Food Safety Level 2 certification and recently completed IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) training, equipping her with the skills to provide tailored dining options for residents with specific needs.

Hi, my name is Fe, and I am the Housekeeping Supervisor at Buxton Lodge Care Home. Originally from the Philippines, I moved to the UK in 2012. My professional journey began as a dispensing pharmacist within a large retail organisation, a position I held for four years after several years of dedicated study.


I have extensive managerial experience in various retail sectors, including roles as a store manager. I joined the Housekeeping Team at Buxton Lodge in March 2020 as a Housekeeping Assistant and was promoted to Supervisor a year later. Working as part of the team here has been incredibly rewarding, and I have had the opportunity to experience other roles, including Health Care Assistant, assisting in the kitchen, and supporting the Activities Coordinator.


I take great pride in helping our residents and providing them with a clean, happy environment to live in. My role as Housekeeping Supervisor involves not only supporting the Housekeeping Assistants in maintaining high standards of cleanliness but also ensuring measures to prevent the spread of infections are up-to-date and constantly reviewed. I manage the rota for the team, ensure janitorial products are regularly replenished, and maintain equipment to ensure it is safe, in good order, and suitable for purpose.


One of my favourite parts of the job is sitting with the residents for a good chin wag, bringing a smile to their faces. I take immense pride in everything I do, and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing our residents happy and comfortable.


Outside of work, you will often find me with my head in a book, as I love reading. I also enjoy watching movies and taking walks in the countryside when the weather is nice. Meeting up with friends for coffee, gardening, swimming, snorkelling, and caring for my home aquarium filled with a mix of small fish are some of my other passions.


At Buxton Lodge, my goal is to ensure a clean, safe, and pleasant environment for all our residents. I am committed to upholding the high standards of care and cleanliness that define our home, making Buxton Lodge a place where everyone feels comfortable and well-cared for.
