My Mum was a resident at Hatch Mill for over 2 years and received the kindest care from all the staff there. She was extremely well looked after and I'm sure that their care prolonged her life.
Mum had the opportunity to take part in the many activities and outings provided by the Home and also enjoyed
the accessible garden. Their food is very good and plentiful and she never refused a piece of cake or a biscuit.
During the last month of her life, Mum needed a lot more care but was able to stay in her room where everything was familiar, safe and secure. I cannot fault the superb way she was looked after during this difficult time.
I would highly recommend this Home.

My mother is getting excellent care in Hatch Mill. She was able to care for herself (and live alone) until she was 103, but because of frequent falls, we approached Hatch Mill for full-time residential and nursing care. Although never wanted to go into Care, she soon realised that she was getting really
well looked after by both the nursing and care staff who treated her with dignity and kindness at all times. The family also get greeted warmly when visiting which, of course, helps greatly.
Management operates an 'open door policy', which means that we feel very comfortable being able to discuss anything with them. We're always given the necessary time and never feel rushed.
As an example of how they go 'the extra mile', to celebrate my mother's 105th birthday, we were allocated a lovely lounge where we were able to invite a number of her friends to help her enjoy this momentous occasion. Hatch Mill provided an excellent afternoon tea which was enjoyed by all.

Altogether, our parents spent very nearly ten years at Hatch Mill by the time our mother died just before Xmas 2023.
Our mother praised the care home frequently during her seven years there as a resident, particularly during her last months as her body gave up on her and so she became ever more dependent
on the quality of staff care. She was so grateful for the sheer kindness and thoughtfulness of many of the regular staff.
There was over the ten years a continuity provided by the core staff there - nurses, carers, cleaners, managers - who were long-term employees, and whose dedication to their roles there has been their vocation, and gave the home a certain feel like an extended family. It was a little community which we as visiting relatives valued in itself and were made to feel part of.
It is a transparent kind of setup, with safe but simple access for visitors.
The home managed the hard Covid times well, although maybe too restrictive at times in its trying to keep out Covid.

Hatch Mill has a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. There are a number of activities offered if residents want to be involved and a lovely peaceful garden, weather permitting. There was a good choice on the menu and plenty of drinks were offered during the day.
Our mother was well cared for and
we felt included regarding her care.

Since mum moved to nursing care in November 2022 the quality of the care has been exemplary. She is no longer able to make much obvious engagement with most of the organised activities, but does seem to enjoy getting out of her room from time to time.

My mother is 94 years old, very frail, and suffers from Dementia. The love and care the Hatch Mill team show to my mum is amazing. It can't be at all easy to do this vital job with the compassion and love that they give to the residents of this great care home, and always with a smile on their faces.
The
staff and management are truly wonderful, and this gives me much peace of mind to know that my mum is getting the best care possible.

My aunt has been a resident of Hatch Mll for nearly a year now. During that time I have had the chance to see first hand how, not just my aunt, but the other residents as well, are treated.
I am pleased to report that I have not seen or heard anything which gives me any cause for concern.
I see a
home that is well run, well lead and one which puts the resident's welfare and happiness first.
The food is of good quality with a varied menu which caters for all tastes.
I have found the staff to be approachable and unfailingly helpful with nothing being too much trouble.
Aside from all of the above the one thing which stands out for me is the kindness and respect with which the residents are shown. No one enters a room without knocking and announcing themselves and even the domestic staff find time to engage in a little friendly chat all of which helps to foster a sense of homeliness and familiarity which is so important to the resident's wellbeing.

My mother had been resident at Hatch Mill for five years. Extreme old age caught up with her last year and she died in the home on 6 October 2022.
My brother and I have commented before on the high standard of care she received throughout her stay, and this extends to the palliative care she received
in those final months. We are hugely grateful for the kindness and dedication shown by all of all the staff in those sad times.

Our experience from the word go has been extremely positive. My discussions with staff prior to mum moving in were informative and reassuring, enabling a relatively easy transition into Hatch Mill. Despite any move being unsettling, mum is very positive about the home. She likes the food, finds the
staff friendly and helpful and generally has a ‘good feeling’ about where she is living. I also have found the staff to be supportive and responsive to any issues raised.

After my 97-year-old mother fell and broke her leg in October 2021, she was in hospital for three weeks and needed a place to go to for respite care. After a lot of support from Hatch Mill liaisoning with Adult Social Care, a place was secured for her there, and with the necessary OT equipment, she
needed.
The staff are very kind and friendly and do all they can to help my mother integrate into the care home activities. We are not sure of my mother's future plans, but at the moment it is her 'Home, from Home'.
Thank you to all who work hands-on, and behind the scenes, we are grateful.

We went to visit Hatch Mill at 17.30 hrs on 20th April and were so impressed, that we contacted the hospital the following morning and my husband moved in on 22nd April. He is now nicely settled in, unfortunately, I have only seen him once, which was on 5th May, when he was very tired and his amplifier
was not working. His daughter saw him on Thursday 6th May when his amplifier was working and he could hear everything she said. I look forward to seeing him on Monday 10th May and hope he will be able to hear.
The nurses are very knowledgeable and most helpful. I hope the rules will change soon so I can visit more than once a week. It is good to know that he is being well cared for.

My Mum has called Abbeyfield 'home' for the past 7 years. Firstly at Wey Valley House and the last 2 years at Hatch Mill. During that time, she has received exemplary care and compassion from the excellent staff and carers. I have always felt that Mum is safe, clean and extremely well looked after.
One outstanding aspect of her time at Abbeyfield has been the wide range of activities arranged - these have been, I believe, especially enjoyed during the Covid-19 pandemic. I would recommend Abbeyfield Wey Valley House and Hatch Mill unreservedly.

I transferred my sister to Hatch Mill from a care home in Frimley after being impressed with the outstanding care my mother-in-law received in Hatch Mill. The staff are kind, dedicated and caring and the majority have worked there for many years which speaks volumes. They all do their utmost to meet
the needs of all the residents and provide an amazing environment in which to live when the time comes when you can't manage on your own. It needs to be seen to be believed. The management and staff work as one incredible team and the way they have coped with Covid-19 confirms this. All credit to them - they deserve to be applauded.

My mum was at Hatch Mill for nearly a year, and before that at Wey Valley House, the sister home for almost a year.

In that time she was consistently cared for extremely well by a friendly, conscientious and highly professional staff.

Lots of personal touches, and outings and social events (pre-lockdown)

Can’t

Every time I visit Mum, currently the oldest resident in Hatch Mill at age 102, I never cease to be amazed at how beautifully she has been turned out by the Carers. When I look back over photos from previous visits, it’s like a fashion parade and her hair, so beautifully done that even my wife, (thirty
years younger - but that’s a secret) is jealous!
And on a practical note - especially important in these times of social distancing - the Carers always go to the trouble of checking her hearing aid batteries are full, a small but vital detail. The Management have also taken special steps to allow us, relatives, to continue visiting safely over the summer by adapting the side terrace and also by providing covered seating to be able to talk to our relatives through a side window of the Sun Room and I understand there are plans under consideration to construct full doorway access to the Sun Room during the winter months with a safety screen. Brilliant. Thank you.

My mother has been a resident in Hatch Mill for 9-months. The nurses and carers were wonderful with my mum. She has high-level needs, of which the staff dealt with amazingly.
My mum could not speak as she had a very bad stroke, but the staff built a great relationship with her getting to know her
needs. They were all very patient and loving. I was very happy with my mum being in Hatch Mill.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.682)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.682) out of 10 for Hatch Mill is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.661 for Hatch Mill is calculated as follows: ( (39 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 56 Ratings = 4.661

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.021 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hatch Mill is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.521

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
