The Wykeham House care team are passionate about the quality of care they provide for their residents, providing first-class 24-hour nursing and residential care, including expert care for residents living with dementia in the Wykeham House Memory Lane Community.

The residents benefit from a tailored care plan that takes into account their individual personalities, including their favourite activities and food preferences. Wykeham House Care Home is also able to provide Respite care and provide short breaks for residents wishing to stay on a short term basis. All rooms in the Home are en-suite, with spacious lounge and dining areas.

Wykeham House, based in Horley town in the borough of Reigate and Banstead, was built in 1995 and officially opened by Sir Richard Branson in 1998. The home is located less than 5 minutes from Gatwick Airport, near to Horley train station and close to the M23 and M25 motorways. The town of Horley has numerous shops and cafes to visit and is home to several hotels and bed and breakfasts that can be used by visitors who live a bit further away.

Wykeham House encourages their residents to keep in touch with their loved ones, including over email and social media, especially for those residents with family and friends who live further away. The home has free Wi-Fi, allowing residents and their visitors to connect to the internet for free without having to set up a private arrangement with an internet provider.

Wykeham House offers additional services such as the hair salon, a comprehensive activity programme run throughout the week and a family-based day on Sundays, allowing the residents to have a quieter day with their family and friends at the weekend.

The staff are exceptionally helpful, nothing is too much trouble. When you enter the home there's a coffee room, this is all free with fresh cake baked each day in-house. My mum has been here two years now, after being in another home in South London. I'm so pleased with the progress she's made and
her happiness, her previous home was dreadful in every way. The staff go the extra mile and the visitors and relatives are all made to feel welcome. This home has two activities ladies that really think outside the box with endless enthusiasm, they do bingo, quizzes and so much more, taking the residents out into the community pantomimes and such like. I joke with Mum that I will move in. The nursing staff and carers are lovely, friendly and approachable.

Wykeham House is a very good care home that my father is fortunate to be in. The staff are very attentive and supportive both with the residents and family/guests. They will go out of their way to help with special occasions and other needs.
The manager is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful
making time for you whenever needed.
Activities and events are aimed more at the female residents who seem to enjoy them, unfortunately my father does not get involved. The food has been below expectations for a long time now and would be the only real sore point for us.

Since my parents came to live in Barchester Wykeham House Care Home in February 2024, it has given me and my family a calm and sense they are safe and looked after.
Today, a summer bash was lovely, residents and families joining together and having fun.
Amazing staff, especially the event organiser
and bubbly, smiley lady on reception (at weekends).

General visiting of a relative. -
The food at the fete was good but I do not feel that a budget of £6.60 a day is sufficient when I need to spend £10 a day on my own food. Good nutritious food is essential. We pay £7500 per month for care.

We've taken your feedback on board and shared it with the team, who have recently created a food committee that attends monthly meetings between our chef and residents to review all of our food offerings, and I'm pleased to share that the first meeting went well. The meetings enable the home to review what they offer and allow time for the residents to share their meal suggestions, and feedback on what they would like more/less of and make sure everyone's preferences are factored into the menus. Our budget is an average guide, but as the cost of food is high at the moment, we buy some food items in bulk from our suppliers which provides us with better prices than you would see in a shop and this is why the budget seems less than you would be able to cater personally. I recently had surgery and as I live on my own I didn't want to come home to an empty house so I booked myself into Wykeham House for a week.
I found it very comfortable and friendly with a family feel about it. All the carers were excellent and I did have a few minor problems which were dealt with
very speedily. The food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. It took away my anxiety of looking after myself.

This Christmas was lovely for my father, with much more care from the activities team who knew my father well when choosing gifts. The home looked beautiful with Christmas decorations. The year before was very poor. Since the new activity team has brought a lot to the home through the year who came
in March 2023, you can see how much the girls enjoy what happens.

In my experience, Wycombe House is a warm homely place, the staff are amazing, from the receptionists through to all the care staff, and the activity staff, who are very caring. Also, able to have a laugh and a good chat too! The food always looks nice, got to be the best home around!

My husband, who has Alzheimer's and Lewy Bodies Dementia has been at Wykeham House since May 2022.
The staff, from every department, are wonderful with him. He is treated with kindness, love and great respect.
All (whether working on his floor or not) know his name, will listen to his chatter no
matter how busy they are and, if the music gets his feet tapping, give him a little dance.
There are many activities which he is encouraged to join, regular visiting entertainers and trips out in the minibus.
The atmosphere is one of peace and calm.
I know he is safe and happy there and cannot praise everyone enough for the care that he is being given.

For the last few months, my husband has been a resident, unexpected admission but I cannot fault the care we have both received. The friendliness of all staff, care and expertise is obvious. Not an easy decision to place someone but made easier by all staff.

Every member of staff play their part in the care for the residents. Not only did they provide outstanding care for my grandmother, they looked after us too, especially on those difficult visits and during her end-of-life care. We are so pleased she spent her last three years of life in such a happy,

My dad had been with Barchester Wykeham House Care Home for a few months. The friendliest and most warmest staff ever. They made him feel very welcome right from the start and he loved going out on the day trips.
When Dad passed away, I rushed to be with him and the peaceful beautiful surroundings
I encountered made everything so easy to deal with. Two staff were lying with him, holding his hands together with mood lighting and music. Just beautiful.

Wykeham House is an excellent care facility where leadership is strong, and the care delivery to my father, living with dementia, was fantastic. Dad was admitted for palliative care, with three months to live; he lived three years and eleven months! We, as a family, were cared for by a dedicated, professional
team. It is hard to find the words to express our lasting gratitude and admiration to all the staff - a superb dementia facility that we highly recommend.

Some (most) staff listen to family. Many (maintenance especially) go above and beyond their job. Most staff work well as a team and involve myself and my opinions. The cheerful, happy atmosphere is friendly.

Very happy with our choice. Mum has settled fairly well. Some carers are a lot more favourable than others. Integration with activities has enabled her to be wheeled out of her room and mix with others. So happy that the nurses and carers have got her out of bed each day. Food is a problem as she is
a plain eater so needs assistance with eating and choices.

The sales department was excellent at selling the home and the facilities, but in reality, none of their promises held true!
My mum, 85, with a fractured back stayed at the home for 3 weeks for rehabilitation.
She was given one-half bath and 2 showers during that time, which were rushed and the dining
experience was no better with an empty restaurant.
The nurses/carers although some were nice were too busy to take care of any needs of Mum as they were too busy with other patients!
Breakfast at 9 am, lunch at 1 pm and supper at 5 pm, that was it! Any requests for food later were declined!
Despite the request for physiotherapy treatment, none happened!
There was a flu bug in the home and a stomach bug doing the rounds, and very few caters felt the need to wear masks when going from room to room!
At night times there was constant noise from alarms and nurse calls.
My mum also spent some weeks in an NHS home, she got more care and certainly more showers in those three weeks.

My mum, who is 98 years old, has been at Wykeham House since April this year. It was a massive change for her, but I have nothing but praise for how welcoming the staff was and how much care was taken to make her feel at home. She has some dementia, and their care has enabled me to enjoy being with
my mum and not have to worry about her well-being. I was worried at first, but all fears have been alleviated over the months, and my mum has been treated with dignity and kindness. She is happy and settled now, and although her memory and eyesight are not good, there have been lots of laughs and joy, which I am sure will continue. I cannot thank all the staff for the care and attention they give to my mum.

Hi, my name is Julia and I am the General Manager here at Wykeham House. Welcome to our website!


I started working part-time as a carer in a local care home when I was 16 whilst finishing my studies. At 18, I left home to start my nursing career and, after qualifying as a registered nurse, I went on to midwifery. After having 2 children, I found working in the NHS difficult to manage and had an opportunity to go back to working in care homes. I got my first management position in 1998 and have never looked back. It is so rewarding to do a job that I enjoy and that I am passionate about.

Realizing my greater potential, I advanced to nursing roles in haematology oncology and chemotherapy in the NHS. Then I decided to broaden my ability and career further by rejoining Barchester in a deputy manager role. Here the appeal is the wide-ranging responsibilities and focuses on developing skills and relationships to provide the highest standard of care for our residents.


Outside work I love to travel, paint and draw, cook, music, craft and garden. I love long coastal walks with my family and Spoodle dog.

I started working at Wykeham House in October 2023. I have worked as a chef for many years and have worked in hotels and restaurants. I decided I wanted something a bit slower in pace and am keen to give the residents a wonderful dining experience everyday.

I qualified as a nurse in 2007 in the Philippines and in the UK in 2011. As clinical lead I ensure that any medical conditions are appropriately monitored and assist with training the staff to manage these conditions. I have worked for Barchester for over 10 years and have been at Wykeham House since 2020. My favorite thing about my job is interacting with the residents and caring for them.

Our housekeeping team are an essential part of maintaining and looking after the home. The housekeeping team run the in-house laundry service for our residents and ensures the facilities around the home are well-kept and clean. Each day the team cleans residents' rooms and communal areas across the home. The housekeeping team are another set of smiling faces our residents see throughout the day and residents are encouraged to maintain activities of daily living by helping the team complete their tasks.

I joined Wykeham House Care Home as a Senior Carer in December 2022, with an NCFC CACHE Level-3 qualification in care. This foundation in care has been instrumental in my growth and development as a carer. I enrolled as a Trainee Care Practitioner with Barchester Healthcare and embarked on a path of continuous learning. In June 2024, I proudly completed my Care Practitioner course, further enhancing my skills and knowledge. I am dedicated to delivering exceptional care and support to our residents and I am very proud to be part of a team that prioritises the well-being and dignity of those in our care.
