The Red House Care Home has a Care Quality Commission 'OUTSTANDING' rating (April 2019) and is located in a residential area between Leatherhead and Epsom, a few minutes walk of Ashtead village with all its amenities and shops.

The home is ideally situated for the excellent bus and train services nearby. This late Victorian property can accommodate up to 26 residents in tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished single rooms. Many rooms have en-suite facilities, TV points, nurse call systems and central heating.

Residents may bring small personal items with them. Residents may relax and socialise in the large lounge provided and there is a separate dining room and a spacious conservatory overlooking large gardens.

Meals are served in the dining room - a home-cooked, varied menu using fresh local produce wherever possible. The home has regular visits from hairdressers, chiropodists, physiotherapists and local doctors. The home employs a dedicated activities coordinator who provides a full programme of activities.

I have only praise, a huge amount of thanks and gratitude for the care, love, stimulation, and commitment that all the staff at The Red House provide for my Dad. (Resident since December 2020). The staff have not only cared for my dad but have gone over and above to make sure Mum has been supported
through these challenging times we have all been experiencing. When we had to make one of the hardest decisions ever to place Dad in a nursing home, the manager warmly invited Mum and me to talk about his needs and the care they would be able to provide. We were bowled over with an overwhelming feeling of relief, that Dad would be well cared for. The months that have followed have only backed up that we made the right choice, as Dad has flourished, with the excellent all-round nursing care, excellent nourishing and varied menus and outstanding stimulating program of activities, not to mention the commitment to make sure our family has been able to share special events that mean so much. Thank you.

I have always been very pleased with the care of my mother in all respects, and other residents appear happy and contented. The Red House always has a nice atmosphere - the staff are very professional, are also caring, patient and attentive. I have felt the care of my mother is very safe and secure
in these difficult times. Activities are excellent and stimulating for everyone's abilities. Food, garden and cleanliness also excellent, and necessary equipment. Many thanks.

My mother moved to The Red House about 3-months ago - so her time there has all been under the restrictions that Covid has brought. We were swung towards The Red House by - the 'Outstanding' rating and on reading the full report that the rating is based on, the excellent reviews received (and lack of
negative reviews), that a smaller home would feel more 'homely', and that a range of activities was offered. However, right from our initial contacts with The Red House, it has been the staff that I have been most impressed with. All of the staff there have displayed a very caring and professional attitude - both to the residents and their families - and their various disciplines come together to provide a fantastic team. Knowing that Mum is being very well looked after by The Red House team has made a huge difference to our peace of mind. I believe the 'outstanding' rating is well-deserved and am confident that we made the right decision in choosing The Red House as Mum's new home.

Both my parents have been living in The Red House for sixteen months and have been well cared for. Staff are kind and give personal support to the residents with dignity and respect. Transport to hospital and doctors appointments are provided, with a chaperone when needed. The activities programme is
varied and stimulating, allowing residents to be involved with national events. Individual interests, for example, music are catered for. The chef is extremely approachable concerning individual resident’s dietary requirements. The garden is not only pleasant to view from inside, but a restful place to spend time in.


Nursing staff are continually available to attend medical needs. When a resident is significantly unwell, the staff offer sensitive support to relatives. During the pandemic, The Red House has been proactive and kept both staff and residents safe.

Having to find a new care home for my father in the middle of lockdown due to Covid, looked like being a nightmare, but I found The Red House, and they made the move so easy and so welcoming. My father has been there nearly three months and has settled very quickly and in that short time, I have found
the staff so helpful and thoughtful that it is very reassuring to me and the rest of the family. They are especially proactive with suggestions for activities for my father that are personalised to his interests. Although I have not been able to go into The Red House (and hence am unable to comment objectively on certain aspects), the overall experience of The Red House is very much in line with the other endorsements - as a family, we are very happy to have found The Red House.

My wife moved into The Red House a year ago after her early-onset Alzheimer’s progressed to a stage where she needed full-time professional care. We certainly made the right choice of home. The management and staff, many of whom have worked there for many years, have succeeded in creating a wonderful
family atmosphere, and it’s very clear the residents enjoy a happy and involved life. The needs of the individual resident are carefully catered for, and family visitors are encouraged to drop in and join in whenever they like, especially to enjoy the excellent food and activities programme. Post-Covid of course, visits had to be managed outside, window or virtual visits. The home remained Covid free right up to when the vaccine was administered, which further illustrates their professionalism. The Red House team can be proud they produce a truly outstanding home for their residents.

I went to the home having had an emergency operation for bowel cancer. I had to have a stoma fitted; which I hadn't expected. The Red House cared for me, helping me to learn how to change a stoma bag. I felt secure that I had qualified staff on hand all the time. Everyone working at The Red House was
kind and helpful. I gradually felt stronger and was able to go home after two weeks stay. It helped that there were activities to join in every day.

I was greeted and made to feel at home by both residents and staff. Unfailing care and patience by all staff and a lively sense of humour - food really good interesting and very tasty. Entertainment provided every day - no change to get bored and staff took great pains to engage everyone in conversation.

My Mum spent the last years of her life with the caring team at The Red House. They became like family to her, she knitted for their babies and supported them in their life experiences. Their kindness and love toward her were evident in the care they showed her right up to her last day. I was included
in that kindness as they welcomed and supported me on every visit.
As a nurse myself, I was critical when choosing a care home and I was confident in the fact that each day shift has at least two Registered Nurses on duty. My mum's tricky drug regime was managed well and I never went home worrying about her care or safety. The homely environment gave some comfort too as it did not feel like an institution. The room was always maintained and clean, laundry was done and communal areas very neat and tidy and as for events for the residents, they are amazing and often accompanied by a sumptuous buffet.
Thank you so much to all the staff, we shall miss sharing part of our lives with you.

My husband has only been at The Red House for six weeks but we have been very impressed with his care so far. There is a very friendly and homely atmosphere and the staff are most caring and attentive to the residents' needs. The manager and her staff are very helpful and approachable to give advice,
especially when the family and I were feeling particularly upset about our situation. The entertainment programme is well-planned. The young lady who organises this works very hard to ensure as many of the residents are included. Activities have included live music, quizzes, games and tai chi. The chef prepares a wide-range of delicious meals - cooked in house.

We were very worried about putting my Mum in The Red House nursing home because she was a very quiet and private lady, but we need not have been. The staff at the home provided such a wonderful caring and nurturing atmosphere that she truly felt at home and when I left her after a visit I knew that
she would be safe.


Thanks to everyone at The Red House our final months with Mum were very happy and peaceful and we have many good memories of the time we spent with her there.

The Red House is a 'home from home' for the residents. All the staff seem to be able to cope admirably with the residents, some of whom are definitely somewhat difficult! Nursing is extremely kind and sympathetic and there always seems to be sufficient staff to cope with each residents' needs. The food
is excellent, varied and each resident chooses their own menu. Rooms are small but adequate. The activities schedule is superb, with a major themed day each month and both summer and Christmas parties for the families.

I have been visiting a friend in The Red House for over a year. The resident has settled very well and adjusted well to the huge change in her lifestyle.


The staff are very caring and respectful to residents. The activities director provides amazing regular daily activities and many extra celebrations

of birthdays, special holidays and events. I cannot speak highly enough of The Red House.

The Red House is a very welcoming home. Staff are always friendly and helpful. My friend has nothing but praise for the way she is treated and she has settled in well. Exceptional care and concern shown by all members of staff to my mother-in-law who, at times, can be very challenging. They treat her with dignity at all times although her behaviour at times is extremely difficult. All the team are amazing.

She is a very experienced RGN with a passion for delivering the highest standards of care to residents and prides herself in supporting and mentoring her staff.
