Mum has been in Avalon Nursing and Dementia Home for 2 years now. I am very happy with her care. The food is amazing, entertainment is good. Avalon runs smoothly due to the hard work and dedication of the matron.

My husband has only been in Avalon for seven weeks, but he has settled quite well, and I feel he is being looked after well. The rooms are clean, a good size, comfortable and nicely furnished. From what I have seen of the food, it looks very appetising with good size portions and lovely cabes.
The
staff are very friendly and helpful and deal with any problems you may have very quickly. I would be quite happy to recommend Avalon to anyone looking for a nursing home for a relative.

Since being admitted to Avalon Nursing home, my husband's health has markedly improved. His room is excellent, airy and light. He is always clean and tidy. The food is tasty and well-presented.
The staff deal with his very challenging behaviour with patience and kindness and it is always possible
to talk to the nurses or manager if I have any concerns or requests.

My sister entered Avalon in April 2021 and passed in May 2023. She was a 64-year-old Downs Syndrome lady with dementia and also wheelchair-bound. She was treated with the utmost care, dignity and support in every way. The staff and management excelled, one got the real feeling that they loved my sister.
I have no hesitation in giving this glowing review of a top-class nursing home.

My mum moved permanently into Avalon Nursing Home in August 2022. The team made the transition from hospital very smooth and the family felt very supported during this time.
My mum speaks very highly of all the staff and is very appreciative of all they do for her. I have found the staff at Avalon
very approachable, polite and caring.
Mum prefers to spend most of her time in her lovely bright room, which is always clean and tidy with the bed made. When in her room she receives a high level of attention and care with regular checks, cups of tea and cake. When she does go to the lounge, she speaks enthusiastically about the events laid on.

We are also very appreciative for your review of our home and we are pleased that both you and your mum feel that the care and attention she recieves is of a good standard.

My mother-in-law has been a resident of Avalon for 7 months now. On each visit, I have found her to be very well looked after. She is clean and well-groomed.
Although on a restrictive diet, she is still given a nutritious variety of food and is looking very healthy.
Every member of staff I have met
has been very friendly and it is clear that they have all made a point of getting to know her. Avalon is very well managed by the team.

Avalon Care Home received my dad into their care at short notice and during the most serious and critical time of his life.
The home provided immediately the kind care he needed until the end.
So patient, thoughtful, kind and considerate, allowing him dignity during his last months of life. Thank
you to all the staff at Avalon, especially those who were with him 24 hours of the day.

My mother was given the warmest of welcomes on arrival at Avalon, given a lovely room with an en-suite. The manager and her team looked after her with dignity and compassion, with attentive care. Extremely informative and helpful to the extended family who visited daily during her stay. Frequent updates
as to her declining health and care that would be provided. I am extremely thankful to everyone at Avalon who made my mother’s last few weeks with us as pleasant as possible under the circumstances we found ourselves.

My sister was in Avalon for Palliative Care and the way she was looked after was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room she was in was very comfortable and well-appointed. We were always made to feel welcome on our visits and the home appeared to be well-maintained and clean
which made you feel that she was safe and comfortable. I cannot fault the care she was given right up to her death, thank you.

Excellent care and compassion shown towards my mother, who was resident there for 26 days before her death. Clean, comfortable room with ensuite bathroom, that afforded us private family times with Mum at each and every visit. The staff were very friendly and courteous at all times and treated Mum as
important throughout her time there.

A wonderful home, filled with welcoming, kind staff who are excellently led by a very knowledgeable manager. Our family were so thankful that the home accepted our mum for emergency respite and very grateful for the professional care she received before she sadly passed away. On our visits to the home,
nothing ever seemed too much for the friendly staff, they kept us well informed and gave us good advice when asked. It's comforting to know that our mum's last few weeks were spent in such a pleasant, comfortable and positive place.

We found Avalon on a search for an emergency respite place for our dad whilst he was undergoing assessments and tests. We found the home to be very welcoming and clean. The room was homely and had a lovely view of the courtyard. The residents are well cared for and treated with the utmost respect. The
manager went above and beyond to make us feel welcome on visits and helped us try to get answers as to what was happening to our dad and working out where dad needed to be in a more permanent arrangement. The manager kept us updated regularly sometimes even out of hours which we really appreciated as we felt less worried. The food served was made to a very high standard. Dad always felt safe during his time in Avalon and staff treated him in a caring and friendly manner. Thank you again for your support during his time with you all.

My brother spent 4 months at Avalon before returning home and whilst his condition did not require so much dementia care, his lack of mobility and coordination were very well catered for. I visited twice weekly and witnessed great care and respect for my brother and other residents.

My mother arrived at Avalon in March this year. Prior to becoming a resident at Avalon, my mum had been in hospital due to her deterioration in both her physical and mental health this was a distressing time for my mum and my dad, and I. What a difference in my mum since being a resident at Avalon she
is well cared for, she is always clean, well dressed, and her hair is looking nice. More importantly mum is very happy. Talking about the various activities she has been involved in including art sessions and film nights. My dad and I are very happy with everything we have seen and experienced regarding my mum's care. We love the updates from the matron and the Facebook page makes us feel we are part of Mum's experience. Telephone calls and emails are responded to promptly, and visiting is still being booked in which I understand risk assessment and safeguarding needs due to recovery post-Covid 19, but we are looking forward to being able to visit without the restrictions soon.

My mum was placed in Avalon nursing home in September 2021 after a stay in hospital for respite care. We were so impressed with the care she received we asked would it be possible for her to stay there and we were very fortunate that a permanent place became available. The care that she has received
since then has been excellent. She has gained weight and is much happier in herself. I would highly recommend the home. Mum loves all the daily activities and it’s always nice to see the pictures on the Facebook page. The staff go above and beyond in their care, my daughter recently got married and the manager and the team were amazing, they got mum ready and the manager brought mum to the wedding on time which was greatly appreciated. It made a special day even more special - Thanks again. If You have any questions the matron and nursing staff are always happy to help you and look into things with immediate attention and give you feedback which is always appreciated.

My mum was admitted here in September 2021 requiring respite medical care. We had gone through quite a traumatic time and the Matron was absolutely incredible at putting us at ease and reassuring us that mum would receive the care and nursing she required at that time. We subsequently requested for
mum to stay here permanently as mum settled incredibly well and we felt her nursing needs were being not only met but exceeded. Time has now gone on and I have to say we have not been disappointed residents are treated exceptionally well and families are made to feel valued and the home goes above and beyond to ensure the residents have the care they require. Residents are real people in this home they are treated with kindness and respect and encouraged with tasks to keep their brains active where possible. On every occasion in the calendar the home works with the residents where possible to ensure they do not miss out on important events. Cannot recommend highly enough!

My aunt has been a resident at Avalon for 2 years and during that time our family have been very impressed by the care she receives. It has been difficult to visit due to the pandemic but we have managed a number of doorstep visits that have been easy to arrange and my aunt has always looked well cared
for and well presented, she is always clean, well dressed, and well-manicured! My aunt has severe dementia and cannot communicate so she is unable to tell us how she feels or about her experience at Avalon but we are very happy with everything we have seen of her care. I am particularly impressed with the level of communication from the manager as we receive regular email updates regarding my aunt's health and welfare and immediate responses via email or phone when we have questions or need information. During the pandemic the communication and flow of information has been outstanding, we have been informed every step of the way. I am looking forward to being able to visit properly soon.

My father is recovering from a stroke and was transferred to Avalon in November 2021 to continue his recovery. With very limited speech as a result of the stroke, communication was difficult. The Avalon team did a great job in settling dad in and the manager was quick to reassure us that dad had settled
in ok and has continued to keep us updated regularly. She is also quick to respond to emails (even out of hours) and has been readily available via phone. This communication has been very helpful and reassuring as we live some 2hrs away. Visiting has been during the covid restrictions so our direct experience of the home has been limited to the visiting room which has always been clean and tidy. The staff by my experience and of what I have seen going to and from the visitor room, are caring and supportive of the residents as well as helpful and friendly to visitors in challenging times. Dad's speech has improved and seems happy and settled. Would recommend Avalon to others.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.600)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.600) out of 10 for Avalon Nursing and Dementia Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.800 for Avalon Nursing and Dementia Home is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.8

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avalon Nursing and Dementia Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
