With its own extensive grounds, Dudwell St Mary is conveniently situated on the outskirts of Burwash Village, East Sussex, a very short distance from both Etchingham and Heathfield, 15 miles from Tunbridge Wells, 16 miles from Hastings and 19 miles from Eastbourne.

Dudwell St Mary is a stunning home based on the site of a former convent, with historic character and beautiful features and was tastefully renovated in 2019.

They provide first-class care for dementia and Alzheimer's in the Memory Lane community along with 24-hour nursing and residential care in appropriate communities in the beautiful home. Respite breaks are also available in the home with both the needs of residents and their loved ones being well catered for.

This team of highly qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person, which includes a personalised lifestyle plan offered through meaningful activity and one-to-one time.

Nothing is too much to ask at Dudwell St Mary and they welcome visitors in at any time to come and meet the general manager and have a look around their home, as well a piece of homemade cake and a drink too!

I have nothing but praise for this wonderful care home. The setting is beautiful and the atmosphere inside is warm, welcoming and friendly. Every member of staff I have encountered has been kind, helpful and sensitive. This is very reassuring for me and I have every confidence in the management who
lead the team.
I am extremely grateful to all the staff on Memory Lane for taking good care of my husband but also communicating with me. The activities staff are fantastic and pay close attention to detail when responding to the needs of an individual. They show kindness and humour which is so important to me.
Thank you so much for everything you do, all your hard work and for enabling me to know that my husband is safe in your hands.

My husband was transferred from the hospital to Dudwell St Mary and was there for the last four weeks of his life. I was kept informed of his condition at all times and the care and attention he received from all the staff were exemplary. I cannot praise them enough and I thank them sincerely.

In general, myself and Dad (the resident's husband) are very pleased and happy with Dudwell. Warm welcome by the reception/management team. Majority of staff are friendly and kind towards ourselves and Mum. Sometimes I have noticed not all staff talk to Mum. Most food looks appetizing. Activities I
am unable to comment on as I do not know enough, except that the Jubilee party was very nice and fitting for the residents. Mum enjoyed it. A few niggles, like would be nice if clothes were ironed and hung up in the cupboard to keep them respectable for the niceness of the residents to feel good in their clothes, rather than being ruffled up in the cupboard. Dudwell seems a happy place, even though, very sadly, Mum is not happy in herself having to be there. Dudwell certainly is a nice care home. I would happily recommend it.

Our Dad initially moved into Dudwell St Mary for a period of respite after a traumatic six months of ill health and prolonged hospital treatment. After his respite time came to an end he decided to become a permanent resident. As a family, we cannot fault the excellent care that our Dad is receiving.
He often remarks on how happy and settled he feels and he certainly looks better than he has for a long time. Nothing is too much trouble for the Dudwell’s staff and we couldn’t have found a nicer place for our Dad to live.

My mum recently has a hip replacement and needed aftercare, the home could not have done enough for her. Although we could not visit due to covid, through our calls we were delighted to hear from her about how wonderful the home was and she was very happy. The respite gave her confidence when she needed

My husband has had two respite stays at Dudwell St Marys, one of one week and one of two weeks. I have had other experiences of care homes with my parents and Dudwell St Marys far exceeds those. All of the staff are friendly, caring and efficient. The standard of care is excellent and the facilities
are also excellent. My husband enjoyed his stays, bearing in mind that he was reluctant before he was admitted. I would have no hesitation in using Dudwell St Marys again.

Great place where nothing appears to be too much trouble. The residents come first, and the staff could not be more accommodating. The location of the home is ideal, with beautiful views over a valley, and the grounds are perfect for the residents to walk and enjoy. There are activities daily, and each

Placing a relative in a care facility can be extremely stressful and worrying, especially with the recent pandemic.
My mum has advanced dementia and can no longer manage at home. She has been there for 2 months now and has good and bad days. Nowhere is perfect in my experience but the staff here are
very caring, and I am very happy with the team and the environment. The staff are mostly consistent and therefore have got to know my mum's needs.
When small issues do arise, they do listen and try their best to put them right, and the care is very tailored to the individual.
I have had experience of other homes, and this is much better than any of the others I have tried. I am very happy with the care from the team at Barchester Dudwell St Mary Care Home

I cannot emphasise enough how impressed I have been with this care home. From my first visit to view it for my mother, the manager could not have been more accommodating to my very specific requirements and everything he promised was fulfilled from room requests to furniture changes and all done immediately.
The
staff are second to none. Not only in the genuine care they provide which is of the highest standard but also in the professional way they act towards me and one another. It is very clear to see that they are an excellent team and communicate well.
On the second day mum was there, I phoned and said mum had moved into the home the day before and the person who answered immediately said her name and went on to tell me how she was doing. Very reassuring.
The actual accommodation and surroundings are the best I have ever seen.

Due to lockdown much of what goes on is not experienced. My sister has been a resident for two months only. However, what I have experienced is very good and I have no complaint. The only point to raise would be the activities to entertain residents? perhaps unable due to the current pandemic restrictions.

My friend has settled well and the care team have been very responsive to her needs and any challenges presented since admission. Originally I came to be with my sister who had been a patient in Kings College Hospital. As we needed the house to be underpinned, I came to join my sister due to this and the Covid pandemic. I have been in two different houses and usually despite staff shortages at times I am pleased with my life under

I trained in mental health and care management and forensics as a degree and have been managing adult nursing and complex care home services now for over 20 years. I bring a deep and caring knowledge of how to ensure the care given to you and your loved ones is at a standard you would expect and more so. My door is always open for a coffee and a chat for all. Care is a huge passion of mine, one of which has led me to the House of Lords to positively champion adult social care and those who live and work within.


For me, kind, caring, personalised and holistic care should be at the heart of everything my team and I will provide for you and we will take the time to get you know you and deliver the best service we can to your wishes to live as independent life as possible.

I was originally trained as a nurse in Bucharest, Romania. I arrived in Kent, UK in January 2015 and since then, I have worked as a Registered Nurse in various care settings. As part of my professional journey, I have managed a Residential Home and worked on other projects, all focusing on elderly health and social care.


I have an NVQ L5 in Leadership and Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Social Care. Since 2015, I have worked towards building my career around helping people and I hope to continue doing so for many years to come.


My role at Dudwell St Mary allows me to be part of an amazing team of professionals who make all the efforts to provide the best care services and improve our residents’s life quality.


I am enthusiastic about the role I have, I consider myself kind, approachable, hardworking team orientated and always willing to help others.

Caroline Morley

Job Title: Home Administrator

Hi, my name is Caroline, and I joined the team here at Dudwell in February 2011. My role as Administrator involves managing payroll, accounts and HR, in addition to the financial and business systems in the home, working closely with the General Manager.


I enjoy meeting residents old and new, along with their loved ones, and building these relationships.


I am supported by two members of the admin team to ensure that we deliver a high standard of work.


Soraia

Soraia Cunha

Job Title: Unit Manager St Mary's

Soraia is our wonderful Unit Manager Nurse for our St Mary's nursing unit. Soraia has been with Dudwell for approx. 10 years now and is a well-respected member of our team. She does a fantastic job with the staff rota, and care planning and is a great support role/mentor to our RGNs. Soraia is passionate about all aspects of elderly nursing care and we are grateful to have her working with our team as she brings compassionate care to the forefront.


Linda

Linda Lawes

Job Title: Activities Coordinator

Joined: 2008

My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.


I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping. In 2018 I then became an activities coordinator where I brought lots of new and exciting ideas to the role.


I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.

I have been working at Dudwell St Mary for 23 years and have gained both NVQ level 2 and level 3 in care during this time. I became a team leader two and a half years ago and am now a Care Practitioner. I have two daughters, the youngest of whom works here as well as a Care assistant!

My name is Augustine and I am a Senior Care Assistant and Speak Up Champion at Dudwell St Mary.


I have been working in the care industry for 3 years. I absolutely love my role and I find fulfilment in caring and assisting the residents.


Since working at Dudwell St Mary, I have received a great amount of training and support. As a Speak Up Champion, I am able to support residents and colleagues to speak up on areas of concern and need for improvement within Dudwell St Mary.

David Bexhell

Job Title: Head Of Maintenance and H&S Champion

Hello my name is David, I am the Head of Maintenance at Dudwell St Mary. This role is varied and challenging to keep the home environment to the highest standard possible and to ensure that both residents and staff can enjoy their surroundings safely. I started this role in July 2020 after working as the maintenance manager of a holiday park for six years. When I was made redundant I decided to pursue a more rewarding career in the care home sector and I am very happy I did! Previously to this, I have been self-employed as a handyman and I am a fully qualified electrician.
