The staff are very welcoming and friendly. My mum's care has been much better, and she is happier than in the other care home that we had experience with. I'm looking forward to when the resident can go out with cares etc.

Both my parents were at Hazelmere Nursing Home. My dad sadly passed in 2017 and my mum in 2020. They were both given excellent care by the staff. The staff always had time to sit and have a chat with them and make sure they were ok. Made sure all their needs provided for.

Only wish I had found this lovely nursing home sooner for my partner, as sadly he only spent four weeks there until he passed away. I cannot fault anything about Hazelmere, the staff, the food, the kindness and caring of everyone. My partner had a lovely ground floor room with access to the garden,
which he loved to watch the birds and the coming and going of staff, who used to wave to him.
All in all a wonderful nursing home.

Unfortunately, due to living in Durham my visit to my friend are very limited. I came once in February and from the moment I stepped foot in the building, I knew and felt how loved and cared for my friend was. The whole team on shift worked together ad it felt like they were one big family. The chef
offered me lunch and the food and preparation were outstanding. I cannot fault the home for one second and to this day I always recommend the home to everyone I know. I'm getting on myself and I would move in a heartbeat to be a part of this family.

My wife and I have been at the nursing home for five years, we share a large room which is sunny and bright.
We find the staff kind and attentive. Nursing skills are very good. Food is well cooked and well presented with a varied menu. Home is clean. Staff well aware of hygiene standards, outings,
hobbies and entertainment.

When my step-mother was due to be discharged from hospital following hip surgery at age 88, we were given the details of 3 homes and chose Hazelmere. It was thought possible that she might return home after rest and recuperation but she settled well into the homely environment of Hazelmere and it quickly
became obvious that she was happy to stay.
There has been a decline in her mental and physical condition since but she receives the best possible care and attention. Our choice of home for her is fully validated.

My cousin was at Hazlemere Nursing Home three and a half years. I have always felt that she was very lucky to have chosen Hazlemere. My cousin settled very well and was able to spend the last years of her life in a very caring and supportive environment with her needs met extremely well in terms of
everyday requirements as well as her nursing care both physical and mental. She arrived with financial difficulties, but Hazelmere were flexible while we sorted these out.
My wife and I visited on a number of occasions, some without warning, and were always made to feel welcome which including tea and biscuits. Hazelmere frequently kept me up-to-date about my cousin's needs and issues.
The staff, a number, in particular, became very fond of my cousin. They were greatly saddened by her death and attended her funeral just as if they were family. In a way, they were her family for the last years of her life for which I am very grateful. A shining example of what the care industry can aspire to.

In general, my auntie and I have been very happy with the care given by all the staff.

My only comment is the lack of activities but I understand this is being addressed in July.

Hazelmere provides a caring and homely environment. Staff know individuals well and are kind, considerate and attentive.
The physical nature of the building, décor and access for wheelchairs is poor. Activities for residents are limited. The food seems to have improved recently.

Since my friend moved in just over a year ago her mobility has improved. She enjoys most of the food on offer and finds the chef will listen to her needs. Most of the staff treat her with friendliness, kindness and dignity. Her room is a bit shabby.
Access to the garden, which is well maintained is
difficult which is a pity as it is underused.
A few smallish changed to the fabric could make this an excellent home.

My father moved into Hazelmere Nursing Home in April 2017 after a spell in hospital. We looked at several homes in our area but this one ticked all the boxes. The staff are very friendly and make my father laugh while giving him the care he needs.
My father's view is, we should have done this long
ago, as he always resisted the need for care, wanting to live on his own. Now I can rest assured that he is in a safe place and is happy.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.471)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.471) out of 10 for Hazelmere Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.771 for Hazelmere Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.771

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hazelmere Nursing Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
