Lydfords provides residential care for to up to 36 older people, including respite, convalescent and long-term stays.

Lydfords features beautifully decorated bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities. There are also two lounges, a choice of dining rooms, spa bathroom, hair salon and café lounge. Outside the home offers established landscaped gardens with a south facing patio, fully heated garden room with tea making facilities and rural views to enjoy.

Located in the leafy village of East Hoathly, the home is a stone’s throw from a village pond, shop, café, a pub and a church. It is also over the road from a bus stop from which residents can catch a direct bus to Eastbourne and Uckfield.

The in house chefs prepare freshly cooked meals daily, with residents involved in the menu planning. A daily programme of activities is offered to support residents to continue to lead fulfilling and independent lives.

I think the service and staff are fantastic. If this carries on there will be no complaints from me, well done. We are kept informed on a regular basis on how Mum is getting on at the home which is fantastic, when something happens we are told and action have then taken place to make sure the problem
does not recur. The food and service seem to be spot on and the staff have gone out of their way to make Mum feel welcome.

Exceptional service, staff very professional but warm and friendly. Catering is spot on very wide and varied menu choices and quality dishes. The accommodation itself is stunning and extremely well presented.
Mum enjoyed her time there and is booked in for March this year.

If only it were possible to leave more than a five-star rating for Barchester Lydfords Care Home. I cannot recommend this beautiful care home enough. My adored mum needed respite for the first time ever and at 97 years old this was a daunting task for her family. Lydfords have a new manager who came
to our home to meet both Mum and me and spent a considerable amount of time explaining how they would look after Mum and reassuring me that they would take the best care of her. This high level of care continued throughout her stay. By week two, Mum told me she didn't want to go home and the team had renamed Mum because she was always smiling. Every single member of the team is utterly amazing and probably not enough space here to mention everyone by name but thank you all so much, especially one member of staff who was always a secret favourite. We will be returning to Lydfords in November and look forward to seeing you all then.

After three weeks in hospital with cartilage problems, I needed somewhere to regain my strength and mobility before going home and was so pleased with my choice of Barchester Lydfords. The staff in this first-class establishment were professional, very caring and friendly, with nothing being too much
trouble, and the comfort of knowing that carers were on hand throughout the night was very reassuring, for someone initially unsteady on their feet.
The chefs took great care in the choice of food, and special requests were always met - especially 'full English' on the last morning! Moreover, I had relatives join me for Sunday lunch, which was a typical roast - perfect.
Thanks, guys and gals, for nursing me back to health so that I could begin to manage at home.

A truly first-class and friendly care home with wonderful staff. Dad stayed at Lydfords for five weeks of respite care following a short hospital stay, and as a family, we couldn't have wished for better. The manager and his team are so attentive, caring and professional. And they do so with a great
sense of humour and certainly know how to make their residents feel at home. They also made me and my wife extremely welcome, and Sunday lunch with Dad was first-class. I would highly recommend Lydfords. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Lydfords.

My dad had some respite care here for about 2 weeks after being in hospital. From the moment I phoned to enquire about space I was impressed with them, I was invited in for a look around and instantly knew it was perfect for our needs. All the staff were helpful, polite, warm, caring and friendly.
The facilities are amazing, it's just like being in a posh hotel!! I joined dad for lunch one day and the food was excellent. All dads friends that came to visit him were very impressed. We would highly recommend Lydfords to anyone. Thank you, guys.

I stayed at Lydfords after being in hospital for 2 weeks, to regain my strength and mobility so I could return home safely. The place was amazing, such friendly and caring staff, they looked after me so well. The chef was excellent, I needed a low-fat diet and he spoke to me every day and worked out
special meals for me, which were amazing. 5-star treatment all round. Would highly recommend.

I've just had 10 days of respite care at Lydfords. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and being pampered by the excellent staff and manager.

My husband went into Lydfords for respite care whilst I was in hospital. It's an extremely nice care home. All the staff are friendly and caring nothing is too much trouble. I joined my husband for dinner one evening, they went to so much trouble, the table was beautifully laid and the food was excellent.

My mother has just returned from 10 days of respite care at Lydfords and has nothing but praise for the staff and excellent facilities. She really enjoyed the change of scene and the general pampering and good food.
The home has recently undergone a total refurbishment and is very smart and stylish.
The rooms are sunny and welcoming and it feels more like a hotel than a traditional care home.
It is a relief for me to know that she will be secure and happy to return there for any future respite stays.

Mum has been a resident for just under 6 months at Lydfords. Right from the first day, the staff have been wonderfully supportive not only to her but to my sister and me. They made the transformation from home to there so much easier for us all.
The home itself is of a 5* hotel standard and nothing
is too much trouble. All the staff are encouraged to interact with
residents and the atmosphere is like one big happy family.
If you are searching for the right place of care for a family member I recommend you take a look and meet everyone and I am quite sure you will want them to become a part of the Lydford family.

My wife was extremely well cared for during her stay at Lydfords. I could not have asked for more. Sadly and unexpectedly she suffered a massive stroke on 22/12/21 and the staff did everything they could, she died later the same day in hospital. Since that time I have been afforded every courtesy by
all concerned.

All the staff from the manager onwards were very pleasant and helpful. The room was good and well cleaned. A few faults with the ensuite, no handrails to the shower and lack of shelving or basket. No alarm to the shower and no heating in the ensuite. All was kept spotless by the staff. Food was adequate
but not to the standard described in the brochure.

The company was friendly. The staff and chef excellent. Furniture and equipment were of a high standard. This was a respite visit and I was very sad that I couldn't afford to stay there.

Lydfords had just been refurbished and dad was looking for somewhere to stay whilst we had a break. On the open day, we went for a visit and were so impressed that we booked him in a few days later. It is a 5-star hotel standard and the staff are wonderful. Dad has made new friends and looks forward
to a return visit. His visitors were also impressed and are recommending friends and family.

Mum arrived at Lydfords almost a year ago. She found it difficult to settle in at first, but with the help of the staff she is now quite happy there and enjoys joining in with the daily activities. The home has recently been taken over by Barchester and already the changes and improvements are good.
It is reassuring for myself and my sister to see Mum well cared for particularly given the current situation with Covid-19 where we have been unable to visit until recently. I would recommend Lydfords.

My mother has been a resident at the home for over two years now, and for a lady who is 98 years old she has her moments but, overall is happy and comfortable.
I consider the care she receives is of a good quality, and I'm happy in the knowledge that all staff will give her the best attention possible.
I have, what I believe to be, a mutual respect for everyone involved at the home because I like to be involved as much as possible. Should there be a problem, I know who and when to ask. The response has always been immediate and attentive. I would recommend the home to any friend or relative.
Please bear in mind that I have not been able to visit the home for the past two months due to the coronavirus. However, I receive e-mails, letters, photographs and a "video" link has recently been set up to enable me to see and speak to my mother. A big thank you to everyone at Lydfords.

My 94-year-old aunt suffering from dementia was a resident for 16 months. She gave the appearance of being comfortable and content, and I have every reason to believe that she was well cared for by all the staff she came into contact with. The atmosphere is clean, homely, relaxed, and inviting, and
the staff I had contact with seemed happy. I observed the residents happily engaged in activities enthusiastically organised by the staff. The review of my aunt's care plan with me was carried out in a transparent manner, with the care plan appearing to meet all my aunt's needs. Any changes in my aunt's condition were promptly reported to me by phone the same day. My experience of the management and administration of the home is that it is efficiently run and meets the needs of a relative living at a distance. My impression is that the manager runs a "tight ship", has the respect of her staff, and provides a quality care service. In conclusion, I unhesitatingly recommend this care home.

I started working for Barchester Healthcare in January 2012 as a Healthcare assistant before becoming a senior carer after my level 2 VQ, then I became a Team Leader after my level 3 VQ.


I joined the Operational team in 2017 as an Operational Trainer teaching subjects such as Induction, Safeguarding, Moving & Handling, BLS, EFAW, and then became a Senior operational trainer in 2022 supporting the regional/Divisional team in coaching/mentoring new ops trainers and support development and innovations of the DLP and other programmes.


My passion is to support our residents and staff to provide the best quality care and I am very much hands on Manager.


Lydfords has a great team that I love supporting and I strive for the best for us all to further develop outstanding care in the home, ensuring our residents receive the best care possible.

My love of cooking soon became common knowledge and I was soon after promoted to 2nd Chef.


I love creating and experimenting in the kitchen and the residents enjoy trying some of my Ukrainian dishes.

I have recently joined the Barchester group as an Admin Assistant.


I have previously worked in hospitality and I decided I wanted a change of path so when the opportunity to work at Lydfords came up I was more than happy to go for it.


I enjoy many different aspects of my job but my favourite is getting to know all of the people who pass through the building daily. There is a very lovely team of people at Lydfords and I’m happy to be a part of it.

Being a Healthcare Assistant is so rewarding. It genuinely fills me with joy when I see the residents having fun, singing and laughing. Filling their day with activities they enjoy.
