  • The Normanhurst Nursing Home, Bexhill-on-Sea
The Normanhurst Nursing Home has a comfortable, clean, homely atmosphere. The home is adjacent to the Residential Hotel on a corner site overlooking the award winning beaches. Although the nursing home is not on the seafront, some rooms do afford a sea view. However, guests can be escorted along the beautiful Bexhill seafront and the site is only a very short distance from the De La Warr Pavilion, local shops and amenities.

The Nursing Home has a small homely lounge with television, an intimate dining room overlooking the private gardens and conservatory, allowing residents to enjoy the gardens whatever the weather. For those less able to utilise these facilities, rooms can be made to feel more like home by guests bringing their own possessions.

Feel Mum is in a good place with caring staff, it's very clean, food is great, mum says it's lovely. As she has been chair-bound re her disabilities in her flat she now has company. She is never alone at night as she was. Mum tells me everyone is helpful and kind. Overall it's good and know everyone
is doing their best. Just one thing to mention lack of music in background, it seems to be missing. Mum has settled well and I thank all staff in helping her feel this way.

Since I have been coming to the home to see my friend, the staff have been very helpful. Always polite. My friend has told me that she is always looked after well by the staff and the food is better than it was when she went in two years ago. Nothing is ever a problem, any time of the night or day.

The Normanhurst Nursing Home is very clean and very welcoming, Mum has settled in really well. Management are always there should we need them. Caring staff throughout the day and especially night. A few more activities would be lovely for all. Mum is happy with the food. Nothing is too much trouble.
I did notice that on occasion it has been very quiet in the lounge, some clients like to just sleep/rest. A bit more music (radio 2) would be lovely but not to disturb them sleeping.

We thank you for your very kind review and we have noted your comments. We have recruited a new activities person but are waiting their DBS application. Unfortunately there is currently a back log with Sussex Police.

Our wonderful Sister, Mother, Grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away last Sunday 18/08/2024. She had lived at The Normanhurst since 2020.
The care and devotion to her from every member of staff went above and beyond that of any other care home would have given and that continued this week towards
my sister and myself when we visited to sort out her room. These wonderful caring people were as moved with sadness as we are.
I was a Nurse for 44 years, I have experienced examples of poor care but loads of amazing care both in the NHS and in Care Homes. The Normanhurst gave (and I know will continue to do so) some of the greatest care on every level by all staff that I have ever had the honour to experience.
Thank you from all my family.

My mother has been at The Normanhurst Nursing Home for 5 and a half years. I am very pleased that she is happy there. The staff are wonderful and very caring and always friendly to residents and visitors.
My mother's room is nice, clean and bright.
The home is very clean and comfortable.
There
is a variety of food choices on the menu. They have activities and entertainment most days. Overall, I think it is a great nursing home and I would definitely recommend it.

Normanhurst Nursing is a brilliant place for my mother. The care is excellent. She always looks clean, her room is clean and comfortable. The food is well presented and looks tasty. The care staff are pleasant and they spend time talking to the residents. Since she has been there, her legs which used
to swell up, look mottled and sometimes develop cellulite have completely healed and look really good due to the care attention given to her at Normanhurst. They have things in place to interest their residents and think up extra events to entertain them. The staff are first class!

This place has been a blessing! I was so stressed when my dad had to go into care and Normanshurst has been the best thing that could have happened to him. I live 100 miles away but I can sleep knowing that my dad is being taken care of to a very high standard. I do not tell them beforehand when I am
visiting but when I turn up my dad is always comfortable, clean and relaxed. The staff are fantastic, friendly, informative and go the extra mile. Highly recommended

The overall experience is very positive. Management and staff are very helpful and sympathetic to my parents situation. The room is spacious and well maintained, better than I have seen elsewhere, which is why we chose The Normanhurst Nursing Home. It's a decision I am very satisfied with.

My parents are very happy at Normanhurst, and if they are happy, so am I. The staff are friendly and caring to them and me when I make contact. I can see communication improving, though, as I have received a lot more communication since the change in management. I would certainly recommend Normanhurst
to a friend.

As a family, we find Normanhurst has an exceptionally high level of care. The overall presentation and feel of the building emanate love and warmth. All the facilities are well-maintained and clean. The staff always go above and beyond to provide excellent activities to keep the residents engaged at
all times. This, I believe, is key to their success in caring for these vulnerable residents. The staff's overall compassion and care are truly remarkable. They have all become like an extension of our own family. They will do anything to make our family member feel as if they are in their own home. They have all been very accommodating when we have our special requests regarding birthdays and special occasions. We truly feel blessed that we found Normanhurst for our family member.

I have chosen to write a review on behalf of my family. Our mother has now been cared for since January 2022. When she arrived she was so unwell and it was a very distressing time for her and my family. A year down the line we have a very different story thanks to the kindness and care of all the staff
at Normanhurst. She has her hair done twice a week by a fantastic hairdresser, which also lifts her spirits greatly. She joins in and looks forward to the activities arranged by the amazing staff. We know she is safe and well cared for and we're thankful every day!

I am in general very happy with the standard of care provided by Normanhurst Nursing Home for my mother. She appears to be well looked after and is kept in good health. The staff are quick to inform me if she has any illness and what treatment is being provided.
On the downside, I have had to repeatedly
inform the home that her hearing aid batteries are dead, need to be changed, and I have enquired several times what hospital treatment is still ongoing for her eyesight and am yet to receive a response.
In the scheme of things, these are relatively minor issues but could easily be put right to give a five star rating!

My mother has been in the nursing home since January 2022. When she entered the home she was frail, having been in and out of the hospital with pneumonia and other infections. She was unable to walk with her frame, unable to read as a result of eye infections and very, very low. Today you see a very
different ninety-eight-year-old. She walks with her frame, joins in activities, and is reading and doing crosswords. This is all down to the fantastic care she is receiving. I cannot speak highly enough of this experience.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.286)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.286) out of 10 for The Normanhurst Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.486 for The Normanhurst Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (62 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.486

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Normanhurst Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
