Palm Court is a place where personhood is celebrated and respected, promoting independence and individuality. Through knowing each residents' preferences and passions, they are able to enhance the quality of daily experiences and the quality of person-centred care.

As specialists in this field, dementia affects memory and cognitive functions with less ability to carry out daily activities but there is no decline in depth of feeling. The person lives in the present reality.

Familiar touchstones of cultural identity, spirituality or religion, food and drinks and music with which people are familiar are likely to have a calming effect. A life story is instrumental in reducing vulnerability, anxiety and alienation; and is crucial in providing person-centred care.

Palm court staff are here to make every step from pre-admission to settling into new surroundings as easy as possible ensuring all medical and dietary needs are reflected in the care plan, where the resident's condition is monitored daily so that staff can be as responsive and proactive as possible.

The home also offers assistance to personalise their room with pictures, photos and any other memorabilia to create the perfect environment for them. The resident and relatives have input to the activities and interests that the activities coordinator can organise, either in a 1-to-1 or group setting.

To get a better idea about how Palm Court can help why not book a tour of the property and have a chat with the registered manager, Shaina Kumar.

In cases for emergency admissions due to unforeseen circumstances, Palm Court staff are happy to carry out routine assessments after 5 pm and during weekends.

My husband has been a resident since May 2024. He doesn't understand where he is so I cannot comment on his behalf. I am happy with the Home and the level of care he is receiving but I think more could be done to make Palm Court Nursing Home more of a "home" rather than an establishment. For example,
the TV is far too small for an elderly person who sits in front of it for the entire day to be able to watch in comfort. The Lounge is very basic and could do with being made more cosy, for example having plants, modern furniture and more pictures.

My mum has been resident for almost 5 months. She says she feels safe there, which is our main priority. I have noticed her speech/communication has deteriorated, could be her general condition or that she doesn't interact with many people anymore. Mum is kept clean, her hair is always brushed and her
nails are even painted sometimes. I know they have a singer and activities going on, with a view to taking residents out from time to time. Staff are very friendly and let me visit anytime and nothing is a problem. They held a lovely Christmas party for residents and family too. My only slight concern is sometimes food is left to go cold and not re-heated if residents don't eat it straight away but I think this is likely due to levels of dementia. Overall, I'm very happy with the level of care given.

Mum is well looked after. Staff are friendly and caring. Food is very good and management listen to concerns and do their best to address them.
The home is always warm and they often put on events that relatives can share with their loved ones.

Very satisfied with Mum's overall care. She always seems very happy. The staff are always pleasant and welcoming. The room is always clean and tidy. Always kept up to date with problems/incidents and any health issues Mum may have.
Going forward, extremely pleased but could the minutes of the relatives
meeting be emailed regularly.

Overall I'm happy with Palm Court, there is sometimes issues with clothing having someone else or not having any socks or pants in his drawer but I always try to sort it out on the day. Had a paramedic visit a few weeks ago and I wasn't informed until the next day.

My mum has been in Palm Court for around 10 months and is doing so much better with the full-time support from the staff who are all very caring. Mum loves the food and is eating so much better than before.

There is a fairly new manager who is very welcoming, helpful and considerate. She keeps you up to date on everything even on her days off. I can not fault the care my sister-in-law received from all the staff, they all went above and beyond for her in all ways
From cooking specific food for her to
taking her out for a cigarette. Even picking up gifts in their own time as she was unable to get out. She was very happy there in her last few years, wouldn't of wanted her anywhere else.

My dad has many different conditions, which means he has very complex care needs. He was admitted to Palm Court after a prolonged hospital stay. The staff have been unfailingly kind and attentive both to dad and to me when I visit. The nurses take time to keep me informed and talk through his treatment.
I’m truly astonished at how much dad has improved under their care. He is now eating and drinking unaided and much more alert, able to hold a conversation. They gave us some precious extra time together, and I’m forever grateful.

My husband was admitted to Palm Court after a long stay in hospital and it was lovely for him to have his own pleasant room with a garden outlook. He has improved considerably since being there. The staff are so kind patient and caring towards him and the family.

My sisters room is a good size so is the lounge. Those are the only two rooms I've seen. The carers are friendly and kind. My sister seems to be well looked after. I think the care is as you would expect.

Both Mum and Dad lived at Palm Court, for approximately 3 years, after being transferred from another care home. Palm Court was a big improvement on the previous home, social aspect and activities were very good. Dad was always engaged in gardening and out and about in the mini bus. The staff were always
prompt in notifying us if there was a problem, be it medical or a need for more items, and always accommodating. There was a management change over a few months ago, and the current manager was extremely empathetic when we lost them both, a few weeks ago. We can't thank the staff enough for all the love and support they showed our parents, especially in their latter weeks. We would recommend the Palm Court Nursing Home to others.

Thank you for your review. We will always have fond memories of your parents especially of your father playing the harmonica that other residents and staff enjoyed very much. You will always be a friend of Palm Court. We wish you well.

My mother was transferred to Palm Court with dementia from another nursing home who was not able to care for her with her dementia needs. While she was at Palm Court she complained that the carers sometimes treated her roughly and bossed her. The manager refused to acknowledge that my mother was deaf
and could not hear well. This worried me that the manager was not conveying necessary information to the carers. My mother sadly contracted Covid and passed away last week. I have just tried to arrange to collect her possessions and was told by the manager to come in on Wednesday; there were no words of condolence at all and it has left me terribly upset that if she treats grieving relatives like that how does she treat the residents? There are however caring nurses at the home and as the home was closed at the time of my Mother's passing I was unable to visit her and a very kind nurse let me see my mother on a video call - something which was very kind and appreciated. Thank you to that nurse!

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review, your comments are important to us and we take on board the issues you raise. When your review was first submitted, we reached out to you directly to offer our condolences and to learn more about your experience, after which we spoke to the Interim Manager. It is unfortunate that a stronger relationship had not been forged with you but she stood by her decision in terms of the infection control measures that had been put in place at the time. We appreciate your positive comments about the staff who will be as delighted as we are that their care and compassion have been recognised.

Thank you again for helping to improve the quality of care at Palm Court.

Best wishes,

My Aunt was accepted to Palm Court Nursing Home at a critical time in her Alzheimer’s journey when her behaviour caused her to be given notice from a home for dementia sufferers with behavioural problems. Quite frankly, they are a life saviour in taking her in. Instinctively, I liked the ethos of the
home, its person-centred approach. This was three years ago and since then the staff have responded to the changing presentation of Alzheimer's in the most amazing way; with care, compassion and love. My Aunt has been very lucky to pass her latter years in such an environment. Led by the manager, every single member of the team, that includes cleaners, chef, and laundry are professional yet personable. The change in my Aunt since her admission is incredible. I knew from the word go that she would flourish and she did. The home is always clean and my Aunt enjoyed the meals, which says a lot as her profession was a cookery teacher.

My godmother was a resident in this home for several months, having been transferred from a care home because of her increasing frailty. I was impressed by the care of the staff and the effort to connect to her as a person, even though she had severe dementia. I was always kept fully informed as to
her health. The arrangements for visiting under Covid restrictions were well thought out and made interaction with her easy. When she died (peacefully) the manager was very sympathetic and helpful.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.652)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.652) out of 10 for Palm Court Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.097 for Palm Court Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (28 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 93 Ratings = 4.097

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.555 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Palm Court Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 53 registered maximum number of service users is 10.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.6 = 0.755

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
