My parents were residents in Bon Accord since Nov 2018. They had very good care but my father especially felt understimulated mentally. My mother entered end of life care in Feb 2021 and died in March 2021. The staff were unfailingly kind and helpful to her and the family. Dad now feels Bon Accord is
his home though would be glad of more people to talk to.

Thank you for your comments about your recent experience at Bon Accord Care Home. Our residents’ wellbeing is our main priority and it is great to hear that you were so pleased with the quality of our care.

Our Magic Moments activities programme includes lots of stimulating and different activities reflective of personal interests, likes and dislikes. It includes one-to-one, group and community based activities. Understandably, not every resident wants to participate in activities and our team will encourage participation, but respect resident’s wishes if they do not want to join in.

Due to restrictions placed upon us by local government, we had to restrict visits to our home for the safety and wellbeing of our residents. We know how difficult this was for families and residents and are now delighted to be able to welcome family members back into our home for regular, safe face-to-face visits. If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please reach out to us at the home.

My Aunt had a stroke and she was hospitalised for some months. Social services placed my Aunt in a respite care home on her release from hospital as at that time we were on holiday. My Aunt stayed at the first care home until I arranged for the sale of her house and my application to become her official
carer under the Court of Protection. She never married and has no other close relatives who care, only myself and my wife. We became dissatisfied with the care home (1) and we made arrangements to vet other local care homes, we were impressed with Bon Accord and decided that transfer to my Aunt as soon as practical. Care home (1) attempted to thwart our movement of my Aunt, but we had made the decision and we followed it through, we really did make the right choice and I am pleased that my Aunt is being cared for as she is now suffering with vascular dementia as a result of the stroke. We consider the move was essential for my Aunt's further well being.

I recently got to visit my mum after the government allowed thirty-minute visits during the COVID lockdown lift. Mum looked well and smiley. I think she is now used to us wearing masks. A bit puzzled as to why I wasn't allowed to hug her but so happy when she knew my voice. Well done Bon Accord for
the strict washing of hands and masking up before visits.

I cannot express how grateful we are, as a family, toward all of the care staff and other staff who work at Bon Accord, for their dedication, kindness and level of care shown towards our Father all the time he has lived here. They get to know each resident intimately to ensure every aspect of their
needs are met. At the time of Father's death, we were shown such compassion, love and mu father was treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

Thank you again, if there is anything more we can do please do not hesitate to reach out.

Mum settled very well into this care home with care and compassion. She is not rushed to move from one place to another which is re-assuring as Mum can be anxious. She is spoken to kindly and treated with respect. The meals are varied and nothing is too much trouble if residents would like something
else. This is the best place Mum has resided in and I greatly recommend it. Thank you.

My friend, who has early onset of Alzheimer's, was moved to Bon Accord from another home because he was resisting help with personal care and was, sometimes, aggressive. Bon Accord were very helpful in the transition, had a higher level of staffing and were able to manage his personal care much better.
It is also more spacious and has a lovely garden. The staff are friendly, bright and cooperative. A good service provided, for which I am grateful.

My grandad came in about 10 weeks ago for short term respite care. The staff have been so attentive and lovely, we as a family decided that the level of care and attention he could receive here for his dementia was much better than we could provide at home.
The staff here are brilliant, always so
kind, caring, funny, loving and helpful. We are able and welcome to visit whenever we want and get to spend quality time with my grandad which is the most valuable thing in the world. And I am able to leave happy knowing that he is safe and well looked after.

Very friendly and helpful staff. They seem to be kind, cheerful and enjoying the job which must be very stressful for them.
The care home is clean and tidy and my husband's room has all he requires, even though he complains a lot about things, especially about the TV never working, but that is only
because he can't operate it and blames the TV not himself.

The carers here really are loving to the residents. All are treated with respect and sensitivity. The only problem is that there are not enough of them, so the residents can be left to their own devices. The entertainments manager left post recently and I hope a new one is appointed soon as this helps
enormously. The home has been through a couple of management changes in recent years and is now settling to a more orderly structure, which is great!

From the moment I first visited Bon Accord, I was impressed with staff attitude, cleanliness of home and ambience. My mother has dementia and had been at her previous care home for nearly three years. Sadly, due to her health, they were no longer able to care for her. I was, understandably, very anxious
about her move as routine is key for her. When making sure Bon Accord had all the necessary equipment in place to meet her needs, they couldn't have done more to help and reassure me. I visit regularly and not once have I found my mother unhappy or confused about her new surroundings. Which I feel is due to the staff making her feel welcome and part of the family. She is always dressed nicely and her personal hygiene cared for. Knowing that my mother is being cared for at Bon Accord gives me great peace of mind.

I have been visiting a friend who has dementia, for the last two months , once a week. The place has been redecorated in a pleasing and cheerful way. It is very comfortable in all respects. My friend (who is an artist) has some of her pictures hung in her room. She always looks well groomed and clean
has hair set regularly . The staff are very friendly and I watched them tending difficult patients with great patience and kindness. The food looks really good and varied. One lady told me that the entertainment is very good and that she is very happy there and has been for years. There is a nice garden to sit in weather permitting. I would recommend the place highly to any one seeking such a place.

Very clean home, nice smelling. My husband is kept clean and tidy, shaved and hair cut (which is paid for in his personal money which I keep topped up).
Staff are friendly with residents and visitors.
My husband is in "one to one" care which relieves my mind knowing he is well looked after. He is
kept occupied - when he wants it - and is taken for a walk occasionally to the local shops etc.

My father was suffering from advanced dementia and spent the last 8 months of his life at Bon Accord. The nursing staff and carers were so wonderful, gentle and kind to him it was quite moving to watch. Dementia is incredibly difficult to deal with for everyone involved, but the wonderful people at
Bon Accord showed Dad nothing but love and kindness. I'll miss going there now we've lost Dad.

Bon Accord was the 17th care home that I visited before I was satisfied that I had found the appropriate care facility for my mother. I was given time and excellent responses to my questions and enjoyed meeting staff and residents alike as I spent time checking out the ambience and facilities. There
have been some communication challenges which have been quickly addressed and overall I am happy that my mother is happy, well and enjoying her life there - despite her dementia. I recommend this care home highly.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.754)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.754) out of 10 for Bon Accord Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.644 for Bon Accord Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (45 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.644

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.11 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bon Accord Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.2 = 0.61

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
