Reply from Peter Williams, Director at Aldersmead
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and we are sorry not to have provided a service that was up to your expectations. Your mother was a resident at our home under Social Services terms and conditions with the cost of the care paid for by Social Services. Social Services agreements state that rooms of residents that pass away and or leave the home are cleared within 2 days of departure from the home. I believe your stepbrother did collect some of the items within two days of your mother passing away on 14th September 2019 and left the remaining items on site. We kept and agreed to store the remaining items for you as a gesture of goodwill and we did so for 2 weeks after your mother’s death. We note you were concerned that you did not get a bill from Aldersmead during the time she was a resident with us. The reason for this is that the care contract for your mother was between Social Services and Aldersmead. Therefore, there was no reason for us to send you an invoice.

Reply from Michael Williams, Director at Aldersmead
We thank you for your review and for praising our staff and catering services but are disappointed you feel we have not provided satisfactory levels of management and security at Aldersmead your review indicates should have been provided.
We do appreciate that the management's decision to recommend a specialist dementia unit and subsequently discharge the resident, once alternative accommodation had been found, caused difficulties for you. However, the decision was based on the rapid deterioration of the resident and their increasing restlessness and wandering. These factors became of grave concern, both for the safety of the resident and the other residents at Aldersmead.
Additional security measures were put in place: however, Aldersmead, as you were advised, is not a secure dementia unit.
Your comments on weekend staffing levels are noted. However, we do monitor our staffing levels on a weekly basis to ensure we have sufficient staffing numbers commensurate with the occupancy of Aldersmead Care Home.
I will be happy to respond to any other comments or questions you have should you wish to contact me.

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.525) out of 10 for Aldersmead is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.
The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.
The Average Rating of 4.904 for Aldersmead is calculated as follows: ( (75 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.904
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').
The 4.621 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Aldersmead is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.921
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
