All staff very willing and helpful and availability of facilities useful - although my mother being bedbound unable to experience them.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Hillside Lodge.

All the staff at Hillside Lodge were fantastic, they cared for my mum with extreme passion, she was well looked after by everyone at the home, nothing was too much for them and they went the last mile to help my mum and they were very sad at her passing if anyone ever asks me about Hillside Lodge. I
will have nothing but praise for them and I would like to thank every one of them for the care that my mum received.

I found the home from the moment you enter to have a bright cheerful atmosphere. The staff are very attentive to individual needs. Nothing seems to be too much bother. Thank you we sleep better knowing she's getting the absolute best care.

My mum has been in Hillside Lodge since the first lockdown, a hard decision for us, but the best decision for her. For a family who have never dealt with the care system or homes etc, and not being able to go in with her, dropping her at the door was hard. We needn't of worried, the staff were amazing,
with us calling constantly, we never felt like we were being a nuisance. We had never seen any staff and only knew names, but felt like we knew them and could ask anything. My mum has settled in really well and is always cheerful, and now we are allowed in to see her and meet the ladies that we have spoken with on the phone. We can see what a lovely family atmosphere they have created and how well they care for my mum. (This includes everyone, office staff, carers, cleaners, cooks, laundry persons, and any others I've missed). Our mum is our world and in an ideal world we would like her at home, but as this couldn't be, we are so pleased that she is in Hillside, and always smiling and laughing.

My Covid test was taken and processed efficiently. I was shown to my mother's room which I was seeing for the first time since she entered the home in June 2020. I was impressed with the cleanliness of her room and enjoyed my first face to face visit with Mum. The team leader on her floor chatted to
me and said if I had any questions after my visit she would be happy to chat.

I came to Hillside Lodge for respite care following a hospital stay with Covid related pneumonia. The staff were very welcoming making me feel completely at home. The meals were very tasty and nutritious. Staff were very helpful and allowed your own space when you needed it. Rooms were lovely with ensuite
facilities. The atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming.

The level of care provided to my Mother has been excellent. She always comments on the lovely food and she likes all the carers who look after her. Due to covid-19 and the fact that I live abroad, I have obviously not been able to visit Mum but the home has been very kind in facilitating zoom calls
with her.

My mother has been a resident at Hillside Lodge for several years now. She has suffered with dementia from a relatively young age and it was tough having to make the decision to move her to a home when my father wasn't able to care for her any more or keep her safe at home. After her trying out other
homes on a respite basis first, we chose Hillside Lodge because it stood out as far and away the best. The staff have been wonderful and have treated her as if family since the day she arrived. They have always taken great care of her and it gives us much comfort to know that she is so well looked after. These COVID times are difficult and of course visiting is currently curtailed but its a relief to know she is in safe hands and her care is excellent. A huge thank you to all the staff there.

When a loved one is unable to cope one of the hardest choices is to consider going into a home however good that home may be it is a heart-breaking choice. Hillside is purpose-built, close to amenities has individual rooms of a good standard, thoughtful décor and a pretty garden. Residents can choose
to stay in their own rooms or use the communal rooms and are part of a wider family with friendly caring staff, not only the care staff but all those who help to make Hillside run smoothly. Any concerns are listened to and addressed which is always positive. Throughout the pandemic, the staff were and continue to be amazing keeping relatives in the picture despite unremitting workloads arranging video calls for residents and generally doing all that can humanly be done for those in their care. Nothing can ever be the same as your own home but Hillside does all it can to ensure that the residents feel at home. Mum is comfortable, well cared for and safe and considers Hillside to be home.

My old dear friend was admitted to Hillside Lodge in Pulborough before the COVID-19 Pandemic. Since admission, she could only be visited a few times as the home closed for visits. We kept in touch with her via Skype and the home staff was really helpful at all times disregarding what was going on in
the home.

Placing a loved one into residential care can be a daunting task, let alone finding a home that is a ‘Home from Home’ and one which will tick all the boxes in ensuring the remainder of their days are spent within an environment which, they will enjoy.
From the outset, Hillside Lodge proved to be that
home. From its superb facilities, excellent staff, cleanliness and wonderful ‘homely’ atmosphere, the home met all of my fathers (resident) needs, and our family couldn’t have wished for a more wonderful place for him to live.
During these unprecedented times and throughout the Covid pandemic, the home has been nothing short of exceptional in safeguarding and protecting those within their care and us, as a family can’t thank the staff enough for their selfless commitment, dedication and outstanding work in providing care and attention to all those within. Thank you, each and every one of you.

My father has only recently moved to the care home following health problems when he had to be admitted to the hospital, on several occasions. He was sent to other respite care homes before being admitted to Hillside Lodge, where he has been offered a long term stay. He appears to have settled in well.
The staff are helpful and friendly. My father is currently having a financial assessment carried out, so we do not know what may be required to contribute towards his care, at the home. I am not really in a position to make comments on the following, as we have not been permitted to enter the care home due to COVID -19, so do not have any idea as to what some of the following are like.

My mum was in the care home for three weeks of respite care following a stroke. She also suffers from dementia. It was a really, really tough choice as she has always said how much she always hated the idea of going into a care home. I knew I couldn’t cope with looking after her at home. After a very
difficult couple of nights, she did begin to settle. Although it was made harder because I couldn’t visit her and she couldn’t leave too, due to COVID. The ladies that looked after mum was just lovely. Always there to talk things through when I felt so desperate about Mum being in the home. They were all very caring and reassuring.
Thank you for taking such good care of my mum and going the extra mile for her.

My relative has been at Hillside for 3 years, up until the Covid outbreak I was seeing her on a regular basis. It's lovely to get the odd video call from her knowing that she is very happy, it's great to know that she has an extended family in the carer's whilst I can't be with her, this makes me very
much at ease knowing that they all take excellent care of her. I love the Activities Bingo which I have accompanied her on a few times, also having different groups in sing along's, etc. making things craft-wise. Visiting hairdresser is lovely too.
Having updates on her is also a great help and puts my mind at rest. Thank you to all at Hillside, especially at this most difficult time.

My mother has been a resident here for the last 21 months, 17 months on the Dementia floor and I cannot fault the care and attention given to her. All the staff know all the residents, and the staff are like a great big extended family. I am completely confident that they will always look after Mum
completely and always keep us informed when needed. They also do not hesitate to defer to other professionals to aid her care. I would like to say an enormous thank you to all the staff, not just the carers, but the support staff too, the catering team, the laundry team, the caretaker, the cleaners, everyone, who have gone above and beyond during the covid pandemic. I would, and have, recommended this family-friendly care home to others. Thank you all from our family.

Hannah

Hannah Peppard

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2011

I joined Hillside Lodge and Shaw healthcare 9 years ago as a young 18 year old. I can honestly say, I have enjoyed every day.


I began as a support worker and felt I quickly bonded with the team. I then went on to take on an administrator role along side my support worker role. When a post of Team leader became available I jumped at the chance and loved the responsibility of the role.


I progressed again in December 2019 to take on my new and current role of Deputy Managers.


I love my current role as I am able to combine so many factors of my previous roles working closely with the residents, staff, residents loved ones, our head office and outside care practitioners. I enjoy working with people and get great satisfaction by providing the residents at Hillside with high quality care. Carmen and I work very closely together in the same office. Throughout this pandemic I have spent more time with Carmen and the team than my own family. We have regular meetings with the senior nurse and also work very closely with her to ensure the wellbeing of the residents.


From all my wonderful memories, I would say the special memory of mine was when I was a support worker on the dementia unit a lady had her 105th Birthday, all the team made this day so special for her and I will never forget the joy on that ladies face.

Anna

Anna Laker

Job Title: Service Administrator

Joined: 2014

I joined Shaw healthcare 6 years ago here at Hillside Lodge in a Bank Support worker role.
I fitted into the team really well and was made to feel welcome from the first day. I have progressed my roles to Senior Support worker and bank Team Leader alongside my fulltime role of Service administrator.


Hillside Lodge feels like a big extended family, I love supporting the home, staff and residents. Being one of the first people to speak with callers I really enjoy assisting with queries and being able to solve them! My work on the floor defiantly helps me to understand better.
Every day is different and always lots of laughter, keeping the residents safe and happy is always our aim.


One of my best memories of the home was celebrating our 10 year anniversary when we had a big party with residents, families staff and people from the community. I also really enjoyed attending the National Shaw Star awards in 2016 in Oxford.


Qualifications: NVQ level 2 office administration


Customer service in the business sector.


I have also completed distance learning courses with the North East Surrey College: in Common Health Conditions, Principles of dementia care, preparing to work in adult social care, Principles of end life care, all 4 of which I have obtained certificates in.


Kayleigh

Kayleigh Bushby

Job Title: Administrator / Activity Champion

Joined: 2011

I have worked at Hillside Lodge for 9 years.


I started at Hillside Lodge full time as a catering and domestic assistant. Right from the first day, I felt like I was part of the team.


I have also worked in the laundry full time. I love seeing the residents everyday and having a chat.


About 4 years ago I started as working as a full time Activity champion more recently I have reduced this to part time. I was given the opportunity to work part time as a service administrator. I am really enjoying this and chatting with families and health professionals.
I love both of my current roles, they are both very different and I love the mix. I love seeing the residents smiling, happy and supporting them with their daily activities and social interactions which are so important in a person’s wellbeing.


I have had many special moments working here at Hillside Lodge but the most special memory would be meeting some amazing characters through their journey here at Hillside Lodge.


Leah

Leah Dondo

Job Title: Senior Nurse

Joined: 2007

Leah began her nursing career at the University of Surrey in Guilford.


After graduation, Leah worked on the wards at St Richards Hospital in Chichester, Arundel Community Hospital and also at St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley.


Later Leah worked for WSCC for a while in one of their older homes called ‘Foxmead’ before moving to a brand new Hillside Lodge and joining Shaw healthcare in the winter of 2007.

Leah offers a kind, holistic and person centred approach to the patients she is looking after, always with a comforting smile.
Hillside Lodge nursing floor is very bright and light for everyone.


Leah feels 100% satisfied in her role, knowing she is supporting the residents in her care.


Leah really does feel like part of the fixtures and fittings at Hillside Lodge, she enjoys all the conversations with health professionals and often offers reassurance to families. Leah feels part of a wonderful care team and cant imagine ever working anywhere else.


Karla

Karla Bushby

Job Title: Team Leader

Joined: 2009

Karla joined team Hillside in November 2009 as a Support Worker on days.
Karla quickly found herself enjoying the role and the team she was working with.
Hillside Lodge is a bright spacious home full of laughter and happiness.


Karla quickly showed her passion and commitment to the home and in 2015 after six years working in the home. Karla became a full time Team leader. Karla enjoys the responsibility that the new role offers and is keen to keep progressing.


Karla always finds time to have a chat with residents during her working day. Feeling really privileged to have an impact on their quality of life. She loves hearing the memories of residents and talking with them and summed it up by saying: “Everyday is special to me working with these lovely people."

Jan

Jan Goddard

Job Title: Team Leader

Joined: 2010

Jan has worked at Hillside Lodge for 10 years a very conscientious and supportive member of the team.


Jan really loves being able to make an impact on the residents life’s.


On a normal working day Jan always finds time to go walking with residents, either in the home or gardens and listening to their stories.


Jan offers her support to families, helping to keep them in the loop with their loved ones care.


Music and singing can often be heard around the home, making it a nice place to live and work.
Jan’s best ever memory of a working day, would be when she took a resident to the coast, the smiles and laughter made it all worth while.


New staff joining the Hillside team are often asked to work alongside Jan, she has a wealth of knowledge which she loves to share.


Qualifications include Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care.


Marie

Marie Blackman

Job Title: Team Leader

Joined: 2014

Marie joined team Hillside in Pulborough six years ago, in January 2014 starting as a support worker.
Her energy and charisma made her, a very welcomed addition to the passionate team.


Marie worked hard and soon became a Senior Support worker and Bank Team Leader
Then in August 2014 Marie became a Fulltime Team Leader


Marie has never lost her passion or enthusiasm for care, she really enjoys supporting residents and being in a position to promote best wellbeing practice. Marie enjoys all the different areas in the home that offer varied experiences for the residents. Marie feels she has a good rapport with families, this has really supported the home through the recent Pandemic.


One of Marie’s best Memories of a working day is always when celebrating any residents milestone birthdays. A few years ago a lady reached her 100th birthday and we worked with the family to arrange a party for her and involved the staff and the residents in that too. It was a lovely afternoon.
