A purpose-built single storey care home, Barchester Kingsland House Care Home has a seaside location between Worthing and Brighton. Kingsland House benefits from plenty of local amenities yet within easy reach of London, the south coast and sheltered by the South Downs.

Staff offer first-class 24-hour nursing care provided by the care team including qualified nurses to ensure expert care for all residents at Kingsland House.

The Bluebell unit provides general nursing care where all rooms are ensuite and couples can be accomodated in double rooms.

A Memory Lane Community offers warm, stimulating, friendly and safe specialist care for those living with dementia. Life skills kitchens encourage residents to maintain daily activities, mobility and choice.

The team of highly-qualified and attentive staff focus on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person. The team at Kingsland work hard to ensure that their dedication can be seen across the board - with home made food and levels of hospitality. Activities are arranged around both group and individual needs determined by the interests of residents. Regular music therapy sessions are enjoyed by residents.

I can highly recommend this beautiful home. My mother has settled in very well. The manager and two staff members who are at front of house are so accommodating with whatever we ask for our mother. The whole team from carers, nurses, cleaners, kitchen, activities and maintenance men are absolutely amazing.
Always greeted with a smile where ever you are in the home. You are all a credit working for Barchester Kingsland House Care Home.

Lack of security where belongings in own room is concerned. Sometimes understaffed at night time, this causes anxiety for personal safety.

Mum stayed at Barchester Kingsland House Care Home for two weeks in the summer so that our family could have a holiday together. She needed a nursing home due to having insulin. We found all members of staff kind, knowledgeable and couldn't do enough in settling Mum in as this was the first time she
had been away from us.
She joined in the daily activities that were varied and due to her enjoying this, I have been able to find different day centres that we will be starting soon.
The food was plentiful, varied and nutritious and my auntie was able to have lunch with her sister a couple of times.
I thoroughly recommend Kingsland House and have already booked Mum in again for over New Year.

My father has been in the care of Barchester Kingsland House Care Home for the last four years. Recently, his Alzheimer's became worse and it was agreed that he be moved to the secure dementia unit. The manager has made this transition as comfortable as possible. She moved him to a newly decorated and
carpeted room. The care my father has received has always been caring and friendly. The manager is a professional and approachable manager. A special shout out for the senior carer on the Adur Unit who has a special bond with Dad and always brings a smile to his face.

Really nice to see when we come to visit Dad we now get a choice of tea and coffee. Also, the bonus of cake or biscuits. They used to be cleared away before we arrived previously.

How people are still rating this home well is beyond me and I hope that nobody experiences the same pain and suffering my nan and family did at the hands of this home.
No pain relief was given in the first month there. Nan was left in a dark room, not washed for days, the room was not cleaned because
the staff didn’t like going in Nan's room because she ‘shouted’- staff obviously need training in what Lewy body dementia is. Manual handling is awful, staff turnover is beyond a joke and the manager, well, rude and obnoxious. Unprofessional staff, no response to bells being rang, we waited 35 minutes (that included 3 prompts from myself) for someone to come and help with Nan. The day Nan died we were not even offered a cup of tea. I could go on with many different examples of failings from this home.
Would not recommend this home to anyone as would not want anyone else to go through what we did. Sold the dream and unfortunately, we lived a nightmare.

My father entered Barchester Kingsland House Care Home in November 2023 following a stroke the previous August and a period in NHS hospitals. He was unable to walk and regretted losing his independence. Kingsland made him welcome and his room was light and sunny, although 'tight' for manoeuvring a hoist
and wheelchair. We appreciated Kingsland redecorating part of the room and supplying an electric air mattress. Initially, Dad complained of delays between calling for assistance and it arriving but he slept and hallucinated a great deal and it was difficult to separate his imaginings from reality. Dad had limited control of his limbs and I believe, minor cuts and bruises resulting from this were dealt with properly by the staff. Both food and activities were of a good standard but as Dad declined, he could participate less and less in both. The admin staff, nurses and care assistants were all friendly and communicative, gave very supportive help to Dad and gave good feedback about Dad and how his care could be improved. Overall, my sister and I were very pleased with the care Dad received at Kingsland and would like to thank the staff involved. Dad died on 24th April 2024.

My mum has been living at Kingsland House since September 2022. In that time there have been a lot of changes in managers and staff, which is why it's not a full five-star review. The new manager and all the staff there work hard to provide a positive environment. I asked my mum today what score she
wanted to give so this is based on her feedback too.
Positives - new manager is genuinely changing things so that residents are both happy and asked about what works for them. Any questions I ask are answered. The staff are friendly and helpful and my mum has settled in well.
Feedback - it can feel difficult to find people sometimes to help with things, but I think this is true of any care home.
We are happy and we can see that Mum is happy and has a good relationship with a lot of the staff there. It's also a friendly environment to visit and there are rooms there you can book for family gatherings.

When it became clear mum needed to be in a care home we looked around for a place we felt confident she would feel looked after well and feel comfortable. Kingsland House ticked all the boxes. During mums stay I can honestly say I was very impressed with the quality of care and professionalism of all

Completely unhappy with my mum's care, not being washed until later in the day, and food being left on a trolley cold as mum was unable to feed herself. No pain medication was given throughout September, the room was not cleaned, rubbish was not emptied. The alarm bell was found on the floor or on the
chair beside the bed when Mum could not gain access to it. Care needs not being carried out.

While I soon discovered that the staff were all efficient, kind and helpful, I found many puzzling deficiencies found only by chance that there are residents who are not deficient in mental attributes. Mixing with them would have made a very different experience. I would not choose to come again.
On
the plus side: Afternoon entertainment, beautiful gardens, availability of drinks and snacks etc. (If I could find where they were). Availability of reading material, picture books.
On the downside:
1. Asked for a doctor when I developed a hacking cough. No medical found though I was told that one was 'coming' later, resorted to trickery to get a doctor.
2: Loss of clothing from the room, was told it had been sent to the laundry, never seen again.
3: Clean towel provided, disappeared unused ('gone to the laundry').
4: Toilet not flushing adequately.
5: Liquid soap of poor quality and hard to access.
6: Bed hard-edged and difficult to rise from.
7: Left for home still with a hacking cough.

The care home was under new management when Dad moved in seven months ago. I have to say that a majority of staff are all helpful, kind and considerate. Dad seems to have settled more now, and the activities and personal-centred approach from the activities coordinator couldn't be better. Management,
admin and nurses, especially, are very approachable. I feel the cleaning could be improved, but apart from that, I am pleased with Dad's care at present.

My career in healthcare begun in 2015 and since then I have had a variety of roles in care homes, from registered nurse progressing my career to senior nurse, clinical lead and home manager. My experiences in various settings have helped me develop my knowledge and skills to improve people’s life in the care home environment.
