I am so happy that we found this care home after the previous home was awful. I feel a huge sense of relief knowing my mum is well cared for and looked after by the superb carers here. Thank you all.

My Mum moved to this home in December and I was concerned about how she would be, as she doesn't respond well to changes. The manager and the staff went above and beyond to make her feel welcome and help her settle in and ease her extreme anxieties. My Mum has complex needs and can be extremely demanding
and particular and the staff have been so accommodating, changing their routines to ensure she gets the items she wants at the times she wants them! The staff are always welcoming to me and my family when we visit and nothing is ever too much trouble and we feel very well cared for. Whenever I call the home, regardless of what time it is or who I speak to, they can always provide me with a thorough update on Mum. As my Mum refuses to take part in the activities, the staff make sure they spend time with her and are always incredibly patient with her. The manager is extremely knowledgeable about both dementia and mental health and her background in both of these areas has been invaluable to me.

My father came to Amberley Lodge after a stay in hospital. The staff there treat him with respect and dignity.
Dad’s Alziemers has been very hard on my mother. She visits my father every other day and the staff are very welcoming.

I visited my friend who is very happy and enjoys the activities that the home provides. My friend enjoys the outings out into town for coffee and cake and trips to the park.
The staff in the home are very friendly and welcoming. The home has a very homely feel. My friend enjoys the meals that are cooked
at the home.

I was worried about my nan having to go to a nursing home, however from the first day the staff helped put my worries at ease.
She was put into her own room which she could make homely as my nan loves her family photos. The staff have helped settle my nan in so lovely that she loves it when we visit
so she can tell us all the activities she has done.

The staff at Amberley Lodge are extremely caring and gentle with my husband. He is always well dressed and clean and very fond of the people who care for him. He absolutely loved the recent Christmas party and enjoyed the entertainment and dancing.

I was so impressed with the care of my dad from all staff, calling out my dad's name when they walked past his room, brushing his hair, holding his hand, brushing his hair back off his face with their hand. Also cutting his eyebrows and arranging for his toenails to be cut. Despite being doubly incontinent
and unable to feed himself, dad was always comfortable and content. Can't thank Amberley Lodge enough for their love and care of my dad and informative updates at all times.

Prior to placing my wife at Amberley Lodge, she was in two other care homes. I found the quality of the staff at Amberley Lodge to be superior to the previous establishments. All staff were polite and above all treated my late wife with the utmost respect. I would like to thank them all.

This is the third home my relative has been in and the only home she has settled, I put this down to the amazing staff/management team who go above and beyond the job to ensure my relative is cared for and feels safe and secure, they show her the respect she deserves and meet her needs, they are also
supportive of family when needed but still maintain a high professional standard.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.287)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.287) out of 10 for Amberley Lodge Care Home (Nursing) is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.687 for Amberley Lodge Care Home (Nursing) is calculated as follows: ( (51 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 67 Ratings = 4.687

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Amberley Lodge Care Home (Nursing) is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 17 registered maximum number of service users is 3.4, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Debbie joined Amberley Lodge in 2018 after working for the NHS in Dementia Services. She has worked with Amberley Lodge in her NHS capacity and has helped mould the new way of working with increased activities which are meaningful to our residents and working with the care staff in becoming more person centred and seeing the resident as a person with a wealth of experience and not a diagnosis.

Debbie is a Registered Mental Health Nurse and has worked within dementia services for over 25 years. Her last position was with the NHS, Dementia Care Home in Reach Team as a Specialist Dementia in Reach Nurse, which involved educating staff within care and nursing homes about dementia and working with staff to promote person-centred care and the importance of good communication. Another aspect of her role was to make recommendations to create a dementia friendly environment. She also has a good understanding of the needs of residents with complex issues relating to their dementia.
