My mum moved into Longacre after suffering with Alzheimer's and Dementia for quite some time. We have previous experience with this home as my Aunty also resided here for 6 years suffering with Dementia so we already knew the Manager and Owner.
This is a fantastic and trustworthy home that goes over
and above to look after its residents. Nothing is too much trouble and always done with a smile on their face. Their jobs aren't easy and I have so much time for them. They really do care and do their utmost to please Mum as she can be hard work. They are thoughtful and have great personalities which bring comfort and laughter to her and I appreciate that so much. Mum never goes without food and there is always something going on in the lounge for all residents to enjoy. I wouldn't have Mum anywhere else and have complete peace of mind knowing she is safe and cared for appropriately. Thank you all.

My husband is having the very best care in this friendly home. The carers, nursing staff and all ancillary staff are very caring and helpful and support me as well as my husband. The residents have made a collage for the wall which to my mind says it all - 'Our residents do not live in our workplace'
'We work in their home'.
The manager is very friendly, extremely efficient and helpful. Longacre is full of compassionate, sympathetic and accommodating staff who deliver excellent and dignified care to the residents, ensuring their every possible need is met.

Our dear Mum was only at Longacre for 3 weeks, receiving palliative care, before she sadly passed away.
The peaceful environment coupled with the wonderfully kind, caring and patient staff made our Mum's last few weeks as comfortable as possible.
Nothing was too much trouble and we were always kept
updated on her situation.
The manager at Longacre, was always very supportive and available to speak to either in person or at the end of the phone.
We cannot thank Longacre enough for the wonderful care shown to our Mum.

Reply from Diane Thorp, Manager at Longacre Nursing Home

Thank you so much for your lovely kind words, it was an absolute pleasure to care for your mum, Although as you said she was only with us for a few short weeks, we so quickly became very fond of our residents, and families. It was an immense honour caring for Mum at this time in her life.

My mother-in-law is receiving the utmost care despite her challenging behaviour due to dementia. All the staff are caring and provide all needs that are required to keep her safe. The surroundings at the home are more than adequate for her. The food choices are different most days, and she does not
want for anything.
The staff will take her out when they can and also provide entertainment in-house.
After a visit to Longacre, I feel relieved that my mother-in-law is in the best care.

I am compelled to write this review for the outstanding care my dad received at Longacre. He unfortunately died on the 18th. He was there for palliative care.
They kept him comfortable with care and compassion.
You are all special people who work at the home.

The care that my mum received during her time at Longacre was amazing. The staff were just fabulous. The couple of issues that my mum had were dealt with as soon as management were made aware. The care and compassion shown to my mum was as if they were looking after a member of their own family!
My
mum was both happy and sad to be leaving the home. I can't thank the staff enough for taking such good care of her, forever grateful.

I can't thank the staff enough; your care, devotion and support to my dad, his grandchildren and myself I will be forever grateful for. I was so scared during this process, but I knew Dad was in the right place and you all were the reason that made what time he head left happy, safe and comfortable
until the end. Nothing was any trouble and we have met wonderful people that turned into friends.

This is the second time I've used this nursing home for a parent with end-of-life care. I found the whole team to be extremely caring and thoughtful towards my mother, and also to us as a family couldn't do enough for us they supported us at a very difficult time. The atmosphere in the home was excellent
and very welcoming and I never saw anything but excellent care for all the residents. Very happy with the care my mother received and my father before that. Can't recommend it highly enough.

We would like to thank the Manager and all the staff for the wonderful and dedicated care they gave our father during the weeks he was with them. He came to the home for end-of-life care and they always ensured he was wonderfully well cared for and provided with 1-1 help with everything he needed. Nothing
was too much trouble and everyone took a genuine interest in him and we were able to go home each day knowing we had no worries about how he was being looked after and that if there was a change we would be contacted. Thank you again for all you did for him, we are eternally grateful.

Longacre continues to give mum the love and care she needs in a home-from-home atmosphere. All the staff are very friendly and cheerful and provide essential familiar faces daily and when we visit we become part of the family too. Mum is always included in the activities and celebrations as far as her
condition allows and a lot of effort goes into these occasions. Mum's needs are always discussed with us. We would like to thank the manager and all the staff for going the extra mile.

After my husband had a long stay in hospital Longacre was eventually found as a suitable nursing home to meet his needs. I couldn't have chosen better, they have been so caring and met his needs whenever these changed. These changes were often as he had medical problems as well as his dementia. They
took time to change his dressings on a daily basis, with the matron a very experienced nurse who knew when to call the doctor with any other changes. I felt he had personal care by lovely carers, always monitoring his food intake. They administered to his personal needs and it took so much of the worry away from me, knowing he was so well looked after. They helped me celebrate several birthdays and our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Sadly my husband passed away in early December, with full PPE and testing I was allowed to see him weekly in the last few months. I will always be grateful for the kindness they have shown.

My mum moved into Longacre after a long stay in hospital, from our first visit the staff made us feel very welcome and accommodating to anything we requested. Mum was well cared for with love and dignity. We as her family always felt part of their family. Sadly Mum passed away in May 2020 so her stay
was short. They cared for her during the awful Covid-19 situation.
They were so respectful on her final day to her and us as her family.
Thank you to you all at Longacre.

We chose Longacre for my mother for palliative care. She was only there for two weeks before she passed away but the care she received was amazing. The staff are very caring and very professional. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Her room was lovely too. I am very glad that she spent her last

I regret that I cannot recommend Longacre unless there is no other room available. The Home is clean and secure and the Staff I encountered were caring. I did not see catering or evidence of Activities.
However, the care is not "person-centred". The staff have a routine they follow when getting residents
up so last in line can still be waiting late in the morning. Promised situation updates were not provided.
The staff do not knock/ask before entering, use patronising names, they don't have name badges and any uniforms seem random. Example: One day a chap with the appearance of a working janitor walked into the room and said to the resident I was visiting words to the effect of “Have you been sick again dear?”. I asked who he was and he confirmed he was a nurse.

My Great Aunt, who is 108 years old, came to Longacre in May 2015 when her previous home suddenly decided to close. After a family inspection we decided Longacre would be ideal for her. At her age we were worried how she would handle the move but thanks to the staff and management she soon settled
in. Although now virtually blind and quite deaf she still manages to recite poetry (several verses) and quote Shakespear. Most of all she loves to sing and her repertoire is quite extensive. She is very happy here which is of great comfort to the family.

My mother had a stroke when she was only 63, while still in the hospital we were told that she would be unable to return home and would need specialised care in a Nursing Home. She is now 77 and even now finds it very difficult to accept. The staff are exceptional in jollying her out of her moods even
when I am unable to do so. All the staff are very friendly and approachable. They are always popping in to chat to her. They always make sure she has a drink and respond if she rings the bell. They also pop in just to check she is ok and if she needs anything. They are more than happy for me to bring in some special things mum likes to eat. I was also able to bring in sets of drawers on wheels to be able to store her personal items.
A few month's ago mum was very poorly with a chest infection but the Matron knows she is petrified of hospitals; she called the Doctor and monitored mum's condition until mum was over the worst without sending her to the hospital which I know helped mum recover quickly. In fact any concerns they have about mum's health they immediately call the Doctor.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.778)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.778) out of 10 for Longacre Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.978 for Longacre Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (90 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 92 Ratings = 4.978

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Longacre Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
