Staff at Melrose Nursing Home believe care should be truly focused on the person receiving it. Understanding who you are beyond your age.

Staff work hard to ensure that when you live with them you feel fully supported and cared for and are able to live a life that is true to yourself.

Melrose has been awarded National Nursing Home of the Year and has won numerous awards for end of life care. They believe this is because Melrose is a real home: a loving, caring, family environment, where top quality day-to-day care is twinned with emotional, mental and spiritual development—holistic, person-centred care is at the heart of everything.

Staff are regularly trained and specialise in their particular philosophy, creating a home where everything is individualised. Care depends upon needs and wishes, and relatives and friends are welcome and consulted on care issues. Melrose encourages and stimulates enjoyment in later life and residents enjoy a wide range of activities and entertainment: from live music to historical talks, from gardening and flower arranging to exercise classes and even computer classes.

Residents are encouraged to experience new things and to carry on the things they loved before they moved to Melrose, whether this is just a favourite meal or intellectual interest, a hobby or lifestyle. This is a home that aims to enrich every aspect of life.

The staff at Melrose are 2nd to none. They are always friendly, attentive, and caring, they treat the residents like members of the family. Many have been working there for several years, so it feels more like a family environment. The home isn't a purpose-built facility, so it isn't like a hotel where
all the rooms are exactly the same. It has character and does feel like home from home.

Finding the right home is always challenging, but working in this field myself, it was much easier. As having worked at Melrose many years ago, I already had a feel. It's such a homely environment, lovely staff, and plenty of activities to be entertained by. This was an important aspect for me and Mum.
It's lovely garden, and you always feel welcome. I would recommend it to others.

Living in Canada, I entrust my brother's care to the staff at Melrose Nursing Home who have been kindness itself in ensuring that as his health has deteriorated he is treated with compassion and patience. I am kept up to date with his health issues and have been so throughout his long-term stay at Melrose.
There
are many activities for the residents to enjoy, although my brother does not take advantage of these, he does enjoy his meals which are tasty, nutritious and varied

My aunt has been at Melrose since 2019. The care she is given is first rate. The staff are all very kind with a lovely smile and a welcome cup of tea upon every visit. My aunt loves the food and the way the staff react with her making her laugh and her face light up. Thank you so much.

Our mother has ongoing Alzheimer's related needs. All the staff have supported her wonderfully as her condition progresses and show kindness, understanding and great care. As her family, we appreciate everything that the staff at Melrose Nursing Home do for our mum.

Melrose continues to provide great care for my mum, who is 100 and has dementia. It is not always easy, but the staff’s kindness, professionalism and experience mean that Mum is very comfortable, and she tells me that she feels very safe and looked after. Melrose staff are very responsive to changes
in Mum’s condition and we are able to share observations and ideas with them. I cannot imagine Mum being in a better place.

Our mother has been a resident at Melrose Nursing Home for six months now and we can’t speak highly enough of the care she has received. The standard of care is excellent. The staff know Mum really well and respond to her changing care and nursing needs brilliantly. A great weight of worry has been
taken off our shoulders. Staff are so caring and go the extra mile to make sure she is comfortable and content. A big thank you to everyone at the Nursing Home from housekeeping, laundry staff, and chefs to carers and nurses, everyone is kind and efficient.

Melrose Nursing Home is a very friendly place and my mother is very happy there. All staff are pleasant and the residents have plenty of activities throughout the week, ranging from quizzes, arts and crafts, coffee mornings, flower arranging, games and walks in the park and plenty more. Food is good
and the place is very clean. Mum is very happy there, it’s like a home from home. The staff work extremely hard to keep everyone happy.

My sisters and I would like to sing the praises of the staff at Melrose Nursing Home in their care of our mother. The staff are kind, caring and thoughtful. They are proactive in checking all medical support and nursing is administered in a timely and respectful way. They also put the time into care
and take an interest in the elderly person.
We feel very reassured that our mother’s needs are being met and she is as happy and well cared for as is possible.

I cannot praise and thank Melrose Care Home enough for their kindness and care whilst looking after my mother during her respite care of three weeks. The manager is a kind, caring, professional person who runs the home seamlessly and the staff looking after my mum without exception, have shown love,
kindness and an incredible way of making my mum feel at home immediately. The home itself is immaculate, modern and a special thanks goes to the Chef, who produced the most delicious homemade food, every single day, a wide variety of choices and happily cooked anything that wasn't on the menu. My mum regained her appetite after two years of not having one and we can never thank Melrose and the staff enough for that. I would thoroughly and without hesitation, recommend Melrose. We, as a family, knew, at all times, that Mum was receiving the best care possible. Thank you all so much. Our Family wishes you all, a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

Our dear mum moved into Melrose on September 2nd 2021 with a terminal illness. We chose this home due to its rating of excellent by CQC and as they offer end of life care. We were not disappointed.

The care manager was excellent and made herself accessible to us as needed. It was the most difficult

time in my life as I watched my beloved mum draw closer to the end of her life and all of the care staff and nurses were just amazing and caring to me and my family, as well as my mum! They understood how hard it is for the relatives of their residents and were always kind, sympathetic and helpful, however busy they were.

The care the staff gave my mum was second to none and having worked in social care myself, I could not fault them. They really did care for my mum and gave her time, chatting to her and sharing a joke with her. My sister and I were able to be with her overnight as she passed away and again the care shown by the staff was exemplary.

Thank you for caring.

My parents have been in Melrose about a year now and both are very well looked after with care and respect. The staff are kind and caring and always happy to go above and beyond. The management is outstanding. During the pandemic, the residents have been kept safe with strict but necessary protocols
in place which has been reassuring for my family. There has been excellent communication with relatives throughout, using a variety of media and lots of measures have been put in place to allow us to visit loved ones around the ever-changing Government guidelines. The residents have plenty of activities to keep them stimulated each day and are encouraged individually too.

I am a solicitor who specialises in advice to clients and family in later life.
Over the years I have entrusted many of my clients who I am Attorney or Deputy for to the expert care of the team at Melrose.
I also have my father-in-law who has been there for the past 3 years this September.
They also
provide personalised care and respect to the residents as well as thoughtfulness to the families and loved ones.
This has been evident in the way that they have supported my mother-in-law during her poor health which impacted how she could stay in contact with my father-in-law.
They clearly invest in training and have good recruitment processes since the staff are consistently excellent, despite inevitable changes
They create a homely environment, with a can do attitude, to empower the residents in ways that are individual and particular to them each.
I can not recommend them highly enough.

I can't speak highly enough of the wonderful staff and the first-class management team at Melrose. Restrictions over the last year have been difficult for all of us but particularly for the care home staff and for the residents. The staff have been exceptional. My mother really feels at home at Melrose
and that's all that matters.

Mum has had a fantastic experience since she joined Melrose in November 2020 after a period in hospital. When she joined she was very depressed and not eating. However, despite being very frail she soon got to grips with zoom calls, which she really enjoyed and started eating. Now we are really enjoying
trips to the garden and wheeling her to the local park. Cannot fault the care and attention given to Mum by all the staff. The level of communication between families and the home is exemplary. Thank you.

My mother has been at Melrose for almost five years now and has thrived during this time. This is entirely due to the great care and commitment from all of the staff. The team at Melrose have been especially diligent during this difficult year in keeping everyone well. The entertainment programme is
excellent and the team have managed to maintain interest and fun for the residents on an almost daily basis by celebrating birthdays and anniversaries and anything else that could pass for a special occasion! I can only commend the exceptional efforts that the members of staff have shown not only in the present difficulties but over the past five years. This great team is obviously being led by a great manager and my wife and I are very grateful for everything that they all do so willingly.

My mum has been living at Melrose for three years. The home is a warm and caring 'home from home'. It is excellently managed and all the staff are professional, caring and sensitive to the needs of the residents.
Communication is and has been exceptional throughout the Covid-19 crisis with every effort
made for relatives to remain in contact with their loved ones within the constraints of the situation. Stringent health protocols followed have kept the residents well protected throughout this difficult period.
The provision of activities organised on a daily basis for both groups and individuals has been fantastic - with input when possible from the residents themselves.
Catering requirements are geared to individual needs and the quality of daily meals is outstanding. The cakes made for each resident's birthday are wonderful!
I recommend the home unreservedly.

My Mum moved into Melrose at the start of the Corona lockdown, it was obviously a very difficult time and they have made Mum very welcome, her care has been exceptional and they have ensured she feels at home. Her room is lovely and kept very clean. All staff are in the correct PPE to keep the residents
safe. She has been encouraged to take part in the daily activities which have been so good for her. For myself and her family, it has been heartbreaking not being able to visit her but absolutely the right thing not to do so, but the staff have been amazing and this has really eased our sadness knowing she is receiving the gold star care.

All of the team members are exceptionally kind, caring and supportive to both mum, who is receiving end of life care, and to us her daughters. They've gone to extraordinary lengths keep everyone safe and well informed, and also entertained during the present Covid 19 crisis. They are professional and
approachable at all times in my experience. Everywhere is clean, comfortable and homely.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.806)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.806) out of 10 for Melrose Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.906 for Melrose Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (96 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.906

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Melrose Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 registered maximum number of service users is 5.2, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
