Red Oaks is a purpose-built nursing home in the tranquil village of Henfield, situated in the centre of 3.5 acres of formal gardens.

Their dedicated and experienced team are passionate about providing quality care and specialist 24-hour nursing that affords the best possible alternative for those who are no longer able to manage at home. They aim for independence, choice and freedom in resident’s lives, in a safe and comfortable setting.

Finished and furnished to an extremely high standard offering a homely yet first class spacious environment. Red Oaks is proud of its beautifully maintained and nurtured award-winning gardens which both residents and visitors to the home can enjoy all year around.

Red Oaks has en-suite fully furnished bedrooms which can be personalised, beautiful lounge areas with stunning views as well as elegant dining rooms with a relaxed atmosphere.

The team of chefs are passionate about producing nutritious meals which are appetising and varied. The activities they offer are determined by the interests of residents in the home and can vary from arts and crafts to musical events and much more, as well as weekly outings.

Our recently deceased Dad spent the last two and half years of his life at Red Oaks. We have nothing but praise for this care home and without exception, the staff who work there. He sometimes referred to it as his 'hotel' and it was that and so much more. He was treated at all times with great love
and affection and nothing was too much trouble for the carers and nursing staff. They made sure his final days were comfortable and dignified and for this and everything else, we are extremely grateful. We will miss you all.

I came here for a week's respite before going home, after a hip operation. I had been to visit a friend who had stayed for respite in Red Oaks and was impressed by the care she received. I live locally and knew of Red Oaks. I have been well looked after and benefitted from the week here. Carers are
attentive. Excellent menu choices each day. My room was in the older part of the building, hot water took its time to reach the bathroom!

From the first point of contact to arrange an assessment in hospital, my husband has been welcomed and encouraged with warmth and understanding with person-centred professionalism. I am impressed with Red Oaks. As the only relative living in the USA, I needed assurance that my mother would be well cared for and understood. All staff are outstanding. Their compassion, humour and sensitivity are beyond reassuring to me and in turn my mother. The professionalism and training in dementia
is thorough and sensitive to her needs and moods. The comfort and excellent food at Red Oaks make it a real home where visitors are welcomed.

My wife entered Barchester Red Oaks Care Home on 17th January 2024 having been discharged (on 2nd January) with terminal lymphoma in addition to her existing dementia illness. Prognosis was passing within two months.
Red Oaks management and staff cared for my wife in an exemplary manner; I can't speak
too highly for every aspect of care and compassion to both my wife and family. Three weeks into her stay, my wife passed away, peacefully and with dignity that I/family will treasure.

It is so nice to visit my friend at Red Oaks. The atmosphere is so calm and friendly and she seems very content there. The gardens are lovely and she enjoys her activities and coffee mornings. I also have the opportunity to have lunch with her and 'fish and chip Friday' is very popular! There is a lovely
hair salon which the ladies love to visit and nothing is too much trouble.

Every member of staff is very caring and all remember my Christian name. I received wonderful service from the chef in the kitchen on the first floor, where each day I had a full English breakfast with coffee with milk followed by toast and marmalade.

When my aunt was admitted to Red Oaks, she was very frail and we did not expect her to last the month. Thanks to the wonderful care she has had over the last five months she has just achieved her 100th birthday. She no longer uses her Zummer frame and goes up and down the stairs without any help/she
is very happy and well-settled.

My mother has been at Red Oaks for 8 months. The staff have been excellent, treating Mum with great care, compassion and dignity at all times. She has been encouraged to join in activities and particularly enjoys the various musical events that are organised. All members of staff have been helpful and
cooperative when answering the phone and taking the phone to Mum wherever she happens to be. I have been kept informed about any medical issues and then have been dealt with quickly and appropriately.

A belated but nevertheless sincere thank you to the management and staff of Red Oaks for the kindness and care they gave my dear Mum during her two-year stay from January 2021 - January 2023. Mum was 102 when she passed away but during her stay, she thoroughly enjoyed all the activities particularly
the singing and the art club together with the garden parties on the beautiful grounds. Mum also made great friends with her carers and nurses and their kindness and attention to detail were much appreciated by me and my close family. Red Oaks was excellent.

A fantastic homely, safe and engaging home and community which my father-in-law enjoys immensely.
He is thriving and now enjoys all the activities which he had given up and isolated himself from as his dementia/Alzheimer’s made it difficult for him to join in.
The food, facilities and activities make
this home more like an all-inclusive resort with beautiful grounds and attentive staff.
The staff go above and beyond to care for him and he really enjoys being part of the community.

As a family, who were looking after our father in his own home, it was a heartwrenching decision to contemplate him ever going into a home. As much as we can provide for him at home, we are not able to provide him with the care and attention that his ill health needs. Every single staff member has treated

The care my mother receives is first class - compassionate, professional, dignified and patient, always with good humour. The home is of a very high standard, well-kept, well-furnished and with spacious rooms. Activities are well-organised and every effort is made to accommodate residents' own interests.
The food is excellent, produced by a great team, again, catering where required for individual tastes and requirements. Having my mother there is a weight off our minds, knowing she is safe and cared for to a very high standard even during these difficult times when recruitment of care staff is so challenging. Well done and thank you to the whole team.

Linda Ryan

I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years. My passion for working with older people in a nursing home environment started with my first registered manager position in 2003. My career has also included positions such as a Practice Development Nurse and a Dementia Specialist. Before Barchester, I was a Director of Care for a luxury retirement village, commissioning both a nursing home and a domiciliary care service. This position involved managing, coaching and mentoring the registered managers.


I am proud of being able to make a difference to peoples' lives by providing high quality, person-centred care in a supportive learning environment within an open and fair culture.


My door is always open for a coffee (or tea) and a chat, whether that is for residents, relatives or staff members.

I am aware mealtimes are a hugely important event in the day for our residents, so I endeavor to prepare, cook and present food from seasonal menu that residents enjoy. I lead a team of kitchen staff comprising of, a 2nd Chef, Kitchen assistants and hostesses whom I support in their roles and encourage to professionally develop. I work closely with the General Manager, Deputy and Registered Nurses to ensure we provide meals suitable for residents differing requirements, for example, Diabetic, Pureed, Soft, Gluten free and Lactose free diets.
Red Oaks, holds events for residents, relatives and local community throughout the year which always involves catering. This is jointly organised with the General Manager, Activity Coordinator and myself and relies on effective team work by all the kitchen team to make a success of the event. I communicate daily with the General Manager and visit residents in their own rooms regularly or chat with them in the dining room, to ensure we are meeting their individualised needs and they are satisfied.
I am always happy to prepare catering for special occasions for residents and their families and we have previously catered for a wedding, birthday parties and funeral teas. Visitors to the home will find they have access to tea, coffee and my home baking and many make use of this facility.
I enjoy working at Red Oaks, as there is excellent communication between all departments and I there is a great team spirit where everyone helps when required

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Clare's role as Hospitality Manager means that she is responsible for the restaurant and also for the hostess services to the Assisted Living Apartments. She maintains overall responsibility for hygiene procedures and ensures that staff follow these at all times. Clare is also responsible for the housekeeping and laundry function at the home.

I started work at Red Oaks 30 years ago. At the time I thought that I would stay for 6 months. I have had various roles over that time all care related and I have received a lot of training. I am a Care Practitioner and Head of the Unit on the Lavender floor which is one of our dementia floors.


I have had the privilege of meeting and caring for some truly amazing people. I love my job at Red Oaks with no two days ever being the same.
