Red Oaks is a purpose-built nursing home in the tranquil village of Henfield, situated in the centre of 3.5 acres of formal gardens.

Their dedicated and experienced team are passionate about providing quality care and specialist 24-hour nursing that affords the best possible alternative for those who are no longer able to manage at home. They aim for independence, choice and freedom in resident’s lives, in a safe and comfortable setting.

Red Oaks has en-suite fully furnished bedrooms which can be personalised, beautiful lounge areas with stunning views as well as elegant dining rooms with a relaxed atmosphere.

The team of chefs are passionate about producing nutritious meals which are appetising and varied. The activities they offer are determined by the interests of residents in the home and can vary from arts and crafts to musical events and much more, as well as weekly outings.

My mother lived at Red Oaks, Henfield for the last two-plus years of her life and my father visited most days. I visited frequently and would like to express my thanks and gratitude to the Manager and all the staff who genuinely cared about the people they looked after. There was a very good balance
between maintaining dignity and autonomy but also recognising the limitations of the patients. The environment was much like an excellent hotel with beautiful grounds but was also home to all the residents. Staff paid attention to all the little things that meant so much to my mother and were very kind and caring. My father also felt very much at home and enjoyed the relationships he built with the staff and patients who also showed a lot of care towards him. The end of life care and support they gave to us as a family was exemplary and we stayed overnight with my mother and watched her draw her last breath. The nurturing care and support by individual staff meant so much to us.

I haven't been able to write a review about Red Oaks simply because it was so close to my heart.
My father spent his last few years there until he died on the 10th November 2019. I cannot express how kind and caring his last few years were. The staff treated my father with more than dignity and were
exceptional with their physical care; he never smelt like 'old man' for example, Dad was dressed properly and I am so grateful for everyone at Red Oaks not only for that but for treating a very very clever man and many guests like him with such respect.
It's been four months since my father died and I look fondly back of coming in from what was a bit of a gruelling journey every fortnight - but worth every step - to the welcome I received at Red Oaks.
Can't thank you enough.
When the question is value for money as below, no money can buy the above. We were very lucky we had the money. However so grateful that we were able to find Red Oaks - for all the above reasons.

The care and attention of staff towards the residents of Red Oaks appears excellent. My only concern is the standard of the food which was at times satisfactory but at other times poor.
The food, especially desserts, was frequently high in fats and sugars. I suggest to ask a famous chef for advice
on how to improve the food quality. Food only needs to be simple but nourishing.

My mother lived at Red Oaks for almost 5 years and from the time that she could no longer care for herself until her death. She was always well cared for, particularly in the later stages. As a visitor, I found the staff to be very welcoming and exemplary in their duties. The nursing staff are outstanding
in their care and professionalism.

My father and stepmother were resident in Red Oaks for over 18 months. They received very professional, thoughtful and loving care as their health declined. As the son who lives some distance away, I was treated very kindly and openly from all levels of staff who constantly found the time to update
me. Words cannot adequately sum up how delighted I was with the care provided.

Although expensive, Red Oaks provides a high-quality caring environment particularly for those with dementia. The management team are visible, engaging with residents. There is a good range of activities for residents to get involved with. The environment is excellent, beautiful grounds and very comfortable
public area in which to meet up with the residents. If I could suggest one area for improvement it would be to engage relatives slightly more in decisions over nursing and interventions. Otherwise very satisfied. Thank you.

My mother has been at Red Oaks for just over one year and considers this home, with many friends around. The staff are always helpful and caring and go the extra mile every time to assure Mum's wellbeing and happiness. The meals are healthy and satisfying and served in a delightful setting. The activities
are frequent and fun. When my time comes I want to be in such a place to enjoy my 'old age'!

I have been visiting Red Oaks as a volunteer for over four years subsequent to visiting my mother as a resident. Those residents who are less mobile and who remain in their rooms welcome companionship and befriending which the lovely carers provide, but not to the length of time that some residents
would welcome. Barchester recognises the value of volunteers prepared to help bridge this gap. It's a rewarding voluntary occupation and often great fun!

My parents were at Redoaks for respite care. They had a mixture of needs, my father dementia, my mother nursing but both were treated very kindly and with respect. The staff are very friendly and the home itself and the gardens are lovely.

My 92-year-old aunt spent 20 months in Red Oaks receiving full nursing care and I am so pleased we chose Red Oaks. It is a very caring, efficient, happy home, with many daily activities and organised outings and wonderful facilities. I visited most days during the 20 months at very random times and
every single time saw first-hand the care and gentle handling of the residents by all the staff. It had a friendly, welcoming atmosphere both for residents and visitors. Plenty of space both indoor and outdoor and regularly involved in village activities which benefitted the residents. Highly recommend Red Oaks, if only all care homes could be as good as this one.

My father was looked after by Red Oaks Care Home for almost six years. He already had advanced Alzheimer's when he first came but the compassion, kindness and care of everyone at Red Oaks made us feel he could not have been better looked after anywhere. He was always treated with dignity and respect
and we felt the staff knew him and what he was still able to enjoy and built up a strong relationship with him. Red Oaks helped him to have the best possible last years providing great comfort and confidence in his care for me and my sisters.

Due to the progression of my mother's dementia, she required full-time care. With her condition, it was a worry as to how I would manage and how she would cope with the transition. The staff at Red Oaks were very supportive and their expertise enabled her to settle in quickly to what she is happy to

My mother is so much healthier and safer than before coming to Red Oaks. Mum now has people to talk to and do activities with. As I live in Cyprus it is comforting to know that Mum is well taken care of.

Linda Ryan

Job Title: General Manager

Joined: 2017

I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years. My passion for working with older people in a nursing home environment started with my first registered manager position in 2003. My career has also included positions such as a Practice Development Nurse and a Dementia Specialist. Before Barchester, I was a Director of Care for a luxury retirement village, commissioning both a nursing home and a domiciliary care service. This position involved managing, coaching and mentoring the registered managers.


I am proud of being able to make a difference to peoples' lives by providing high quality, person-centred care in a supportive learning environment within an open and fair culture.


My door is always open for a coffee (or tea) and a chat, whether that is for residents, relatives or staff members.

I have worked at Red Oaks since April 2005, initially on reception before becoming Administrator in March 2006. I gained my NVQ level 3 in Business & Administration in January 2009. I am aware mealtimes are a hugely important event in the day for our residents, so I endeavor to prepare, cook and present food from seasonal menu that residents enjoy. I lead a team of kitchen staff comprising of, a 2nd Chef, Kitchen assistants and hostesses whom I support in their roles and encourage to professionally develop. I work closely with the General Manager, Deputy and Registered Nurses to ensure we provide meals suitable for residents differing requirements, for example, Diabetic, Pureed, Soft, Gluten free and Lactose free diets.
Red Oaks, holds events for residents, relatives and local community throughout the year which always involves catering. This is jointly organised with the General Manager, Activity Coordinator and myself and relies on effective team work by all the kitchen team to make a success of the event. I communicate daily with the General Manager and visit residents in their own rooms regularly or chat with them in the dining room, to ensure we are meeting their individualised needs and they are satisfied.
I am always happy to prepare catering for special occasions for residents and their families and we have previously catered for a wedding, birthday parties and funeral teas. Visitors to the home will find they have access to tea, coffee and my home baking and many make use of this facility.
I enjoy working at Red Oaks, as there is excellent communication between all departments and I there is a great team spirit where everyone helps when required

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.
I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Clare's role as Hospitality Manager means that she is responsible for the restaurant and also for the hostess services to the Assisted Living Apartments. She maintains overall responsibility for hygiene procedures and ensures that staff follow these at all times. Clare is also responsible for the housekeeping and laundry function at the home.

I have worked at Red Oaks for 16 years and I consider it as my second home. I love being a Nurse. My responsibility is to ensure the high quality care of our residents, maintaining their general wellbeing and to make them happy. At Red Oaks we work as a team.

Job Title: Care Practitioner

Joined: 1990

I started work at Red Oaks 30 years ago. At the time I thought that I would stay for 6 months. I have had various roles over that time all care related and I have received a lot of training. I am a Care Practitioner and Head of the Unit on the Lavender floor which is one of our dementia floors.


I have had the privilege of meeting and caring for some truly amazing people. I love my job at Red Oaks with no two days ever being the same.


In 2017 I was nominated for the Barchester Care Awards and was very surprised and humbled to win the Lifetime Achievement in care award.
