Red Oaks is a purpose-built nursing home in the tranquil village of Henfield, situated in the centre of 3.5 acres of formal gardens.

Their dedicated and experienced team are passionate about providing quality care and specialist 24-hour nursing that affords the best possible alternative for those who are no longer able to manage at home. They aim for independence, choice and freedom in resident’s lives, in a safe and comfortable setting.

Red Oaks has en-suite fully furnished bedrooms which can be personalised, beautiful lounge areas with stunning views as well as elegant dining rooms with a relaxed atmosphere.

The team of chefs are passionate about producing nutritious meals which are appetising and varied. The activities they offer are determined by the interests of residents in the home and can vary from arts and crafts to musical events and much more, as well as weekly outings.

My mother loves it here and very content. I feel she is in safe hands and very well cared for - gives me peace of mind. All staff are friendly and capable.

I have been a volunteer here for 22 years. I come regularly on Wednesdays to help with their weekly church service. I also come on Sundays to have lunch and take one or two people for a walk with my cocker spaniel - we go to see and feed the ducks at a nearby pond.


I think I am fairly observant and

I am most impressed by the patience and loving kindness the staff show to the residents, even with people who are difficult. I enjoy coming here to Red Oaks and am always warmly welcomed (or is it my dog they love?!)

My mother was in the care of Red Oaks for two years and was treated with great care, kindness and compassion during that time. We were so grateful to all the staff for the way they looked after her in her declining years.


There is an ethos in the home of not only practical and safe care but sympathetic

nurture of the residents. I would also like to pay tribute to not only the lovely way they helped my mother but how kind they were to myself.


I can strongly recommend the home as a place of care and kindness.

The nurses and care staff were extremely kind and attentive to my father and treated hm with respect and where possible dignity. We would have loved to take him into the beautiful gardens but he was too disabled. However, for the more able I am sure the gardens would be a great comfort. We are enormously
grateful for the care and support received from all the care staff in my father's final weeks.

My sister in law is disabled. Red Oaks look after her with great dignity. She has been at Red Oaks since February 2009 and is extremely happy there. They have a full range of activities every day to keep her busy.

My aunt really enjoys living at Red Oaks. She is wheelchair bound but enjoys a wide range of activities.
The carers go out of their way to look after her very well.
I am so happy she is there.

Over a period of 3/4 years, we have had a brother and sister-in-law as residents.
They were certainly capable of criticising if or when in their opinion it was necessary, but I am unable to recall an instance.
Have visited at various times of the day and I can only compliment the staff on efficiency.

My grandfather loved living here, right up to when he passed away. Day to day care was wonderful and saw the staff as extended family. They truly came into their own as his time to part came giving our family the chance to come and say goodbye and looking after my relatives after he died. The visitors
flat was wonderful to be able to use when we visited from devon.

My elderly aunt (suffering from dementia) was a resident of Red Oaks for 2.5years until her death in February 2017. The house is bright and cheerful looking, spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and set in lovely gardens, in the centre of a busy, friendly and small country town. The cooking is a
speciality (as is the lunchtime sherry) the chef takes great trouble to produce varied and tempting menus.
This is a care home with professional nursing and my aunt was looked after with care, patience and affection by the carers and nursing staff. Especially during the last days of her life, when everything possible was done to make her comfortable, give her privacy and dignity.
I strongly recommend it.

Barchester Redoaks Care Home's care of my aunt is second to none. The carers are very caring and do lots of extras for the residents. I am completely happy that my aunt is there. I have visited many care homes in the last 10 years and there are many I would not put a dog in but Redoaks is excellent.

My mother has been in Barchester Red Oaks Care Home for a month, moving there when her previous nursing home no longer felt able to cope with her increasing level of dementia. Her family dreaded the possible upset and confusion the move could cause her but I can honestly say there have been no problems
at all. Every member of staff from my initial visit to view, the manager, the admin staff, nursing and care staff and since Mum moved in has been pleasant, helpful and professional.

Both my parents had to go to Red Oaks, after a car crash in April 2016. The standard of care is very good, the cleanliness is of a good standard and the food varied and healthy. All the staff are extremely helpful, friendly and kind. I have recommended Red Oaks to others.

My lovely mum and dad have been residents at the Red Oaks since April 2016. Throughout their time, the staff have always been polite and helpful. The standard of care is excellent especially in Lavender Ward where my dad is staying. Whenever my sister and I visit, (which is weekly at least) everyone
is very welcoming, I sometimes bring my little dog too! I would like to thank all the staff for looking after my mum and dad so compassionately.

Linda Ryan

I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years. My passion for working with older people in a nursing home environment started with my first registered manager position in 2003. My career has also included positions such as a Practice Development Nurse and a Dementia Specialist. Before Barchester, I was a Director of Care for a luxury retirement village, commissioning both a nursing home and a domiciliary care service. This position involved managing, coaching and mentoring the registered managers.


I am proud of being able to make a difference to peoples' lives by providing high quality, person-centred care in a supportive learning environment within an open and fair culture.


My door is always open for a coffee (or tea) and a chat, whether that is for residents, relatives or staff members.

I am aware mealtimes are a hugely important event in the day for our residents, so I endeavor to prepare, cook and present food from seasonal menu that residents enjoy. I lead a team of kitchen staff comprising of, a 2nd Chef, Kitchen assistants and hostesses whom I support in their roles and encourage to professionally develop. I work closely with the General Manager, Deputy and Registered Nurses to ensure we provide meals suitable for residents differing requirements, for example, Diabetic, Pureed, Soft, Gluten free and Lactose free diets.
Red Oaks, holds events for residents, relatives and local community throughout the year which always involves catering. This is jointly organised with the General Manager, Activity Coordinator and myself and relies on effective team work by all the kitchen team to make a success of the event. I communicate daily with the General Manager and visit residents in their own rooms regularly or chat with them in the dining room, to ensure we are meeting their individualised needs and they are satisfied.
I am always happy to prepare catering for special occasions for residents and their families and we have previously catered for a wedding, birthday parties and funeral teas. Visitors to the home will find they have access to tea, coffee and my home baking and many make use of this facility.
I enjoy working at Red Oaks, as there is excellent communication between all departments and I there is a great team spirit where everyone helps when required

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.
I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Clare's role as Hospitality Manager means that she is responsible for the restaurant and also for the hostess services to the Assisted Living Apartments. She maintains overall responsibility for hygiene procedures and ensures that staff follow these at all times. Clare is also responsible for the housekeeping and laundry function at the home.

Joined: 1990

I started work at Red Oaks 30 years ago. At the time I thought that I would stay for 6 months. I have had various roles over that time all care related and I have received a lot of training. I am a Care Practitioner and Head of the Unit on the Lavender floor which is one of our dementia floors.


I have had the privilege of meeting and caring for some truly amazing people. I love my job at Red Oaks with no two days ever being the same.


In 2017 I was nominated for the Barchester Care Awards and was very surprised and humbled to win the Lifetime Achievement in care award.
