Red Oaks is a purpose-built nursing home in the tranquil village of Henfield, situated in the centre of 3.5 acres of formal gardens.

Their dedicated and experienced team are passionate about providing quality care and specialist 24-hour nursing that affords the best possible alternative for those who are no longer able to manage at home. They aim for independence, choice and freedom in resident’s lives, in a safe and comfortable setting.

Finished and furnished to an extremely high standard offering a homely yet first class spacious environment. Red Oaks is proud of its beautifully maintained and nurtured award-winning gardens which both residents and visitors to the home can enjoy all year around.

Red Oaks has en-suite fully furnished bedrooms which can be personalised, beautiful lounge areas with stunning views as well as elegant dining rooms with a relaxed atmosphere.

The team of chefs are passionate about producing nutritious meals which are appetising and varied. The activities they offer are determined by the interests of residents in the home and can vary from arts and crafts to musical events and much more, as well as weekly outings.

My mother in law moved into Red Oaks Care Home towards the end of 2016 and I am very happy with the way she has been made welcome and cared for. In particular, I have been impressed with the atmosphere at Red Oaks and the caring attitude of the staff.

My mother is 97 - has dementia and cancer and is still mobile but declining rapidly. She is fond of all her carers and is treated with dignity and respect.
The care she receives is excellent and consistent. Above all, despite her illness, she is happy and pain-free and knows she is well looked after.

Mum has been here since June 2016 and we have seen such a fantastic change in her in every way.
She is happy, bright, clean and so well looked after. We feel like we have our mum back and she will probably love forever under the superb care of Red Oaks and their caring staff.

I am very satisfied with the care and attention my mother in law is getting. She is warm and well cared for. The home is very clean and no smells at all. When my Mother in Law does not eat she is given vitamin milk drink which she loves.

Excellent home - very clean (no smell at all). Treated you as a guest rather than a patient. All staff caring and attentive. Very impressive lounges and dining room. Fantastic service in dining room and visitors made welcome.

(2wks respite) From pre-assessment to pick up my dad had a wonderful time, the staff were all incredibly helpful and considerate. I could not fault any part of the Red Oaks team, my dad came home full of tales after being slightly reluctant, we are in process for booking up another 2wks stay in September-

My mother has been a resident at Red Oaks for three and a half years and soon settled in the homely and welcoming environment. I feel she is safe, secure, content and more importantly, so does she. A good level of caring staff, ensure my mother is not neglected and she has plenty of activities in
which to participate. Also the option to enjoy the privacy of her room with its balcony and views across the gardens and countryside. It couldn't be better!

Red Oaks is a country house in a superb location of landscaped grounds close to the attractive village of Henfield. Superbly refurbished, the interior offers a warm welcome with friendly professional staff at every level. Patients/residents are treated with utmost respect, dignity and care, with lovely
county views from light, airy, en-suite bedrooms. Residents are provided with a huge variety of activities, talks and encouragement to socialise. The ambience conveys the ideal relaxed extremely comfortable well organised care home.

Linda Ryan

Job Title: General Manager

Joined: 2017

I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years. My passion for working with older people in a nursing home environment started with my first registered manager position in 2003. My career has also included positions such as a Practice Development Nurse and a Dementia Specialist. Before Barchester, I was a Director of Care for a luxury retirement village, commissioning both a nursing home and a domiciliary care service. This position involved managing, coaching and mentoring the registered managers.


I am proud of being able to make a difference to peoples' lives by providing high quality, person-centred care in a supportive learning environment within an open and fair culture.


My door is always open for a coffee (or tea) and a chat, whether that is for residents, relatives or staff members.

I am aware mealtimes are a hugely important event in the day for our residents, so I endeavor to prepare, cook and present food from seasonal menu that residents enjoy. I lead a team of kitchen staff comprising of, a 2nd Chef, Kitchen assistants and hostesses whom I support in their roles and encourage to professionally develop. I work closely with the General Manager, Deputy and Registered Nurses to ensure we provide meals suitable for residents differing requirements, for example, Diabetic, Pureed, Soft, Gluten free and Lactose free diets.
Red Oaks, holds events for residents, relatives and local community throughout the year which always involves catering. This is jointly organised with the General Manager, Activity Coordinator and myself and relies on effective team work by all the kitchen team to make a success of the event. I communicate daily with the General Manager and visit residents in their own rooms regularly or chat with them in the dining room, to ensure we are meeting their individualised needs and they are satisfied.
I am always happy to prepare catering for special occasions for residents and their families and we have previously catered for a wedding, birthday parties and funeral teas. Visitors to the home will find they have access to tea, coffee and my home baking and many make use of this facility.
I enjoy working at Red Oaks, as there is excellent communication between all departments and I there is a great team spirit where everyone helps when required

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.
I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Clare's role as Hospitality Manager means that she is responsible for the restaurant and also for the hostess services to the Assisted Living Apartments. She maintains overall responsibility for hygiene procedures and ensures that staff follow these at all times. Clare is also responsible for the housekeeping and laundry function at the home.

I started work at Red Oaks 30 years ago. At the time I thought that I would stay for 6 months. I have had various roles over that time all care related and I have received a lot of training. I am a Care Practitioner and Head of the Unit on the Lavender floor which is one of our dementia floors.


I have had the privilege of meeting and caring for some truly amazing people. I love my job at Red Oaks with no two days ever being the same.


In 2017 I was nominated for the Barchester Care Awards and was very surprised and humbled to win the Lifetime Achievement in care award.
