Sunhill Court Nursing Home is a specialist dementia and complex needs home, situated on a hill overlooking the Findon Valley, one of the most beautiful parts of the South Downs.

The home has a highly skilled team of nurses and carers, led by an experienced manager, who are on-hand to help with all aspects of the health and wellbeing of those in their care.

All rooms are fully appointed and sensitively designed to meet the residents' needs and are also connected to the call bell system to maintain a high level of responsiveness. Each room contains a WC and sink, while over half include a wet room, high/low profile bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cupboard, an easy access chair as well as a small table. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with the addition of their own personal belongings.

The large lounge has a stunning view of the Findon Valley and has recently been refurbished to provide a modern but homely space which can adapt to the needs of the residents. The residents are also encouraged to participate in communal redecoration as it is, of course, their home.

The garden has been designed to stimulate the senses, with year-round interest. A combination of extensive pathways and seated areas to enjoy the view makes it a much-loved area of the home. It is wheelchair accessible and safe for residents to walk through whilst accompanied by staff or their family.

The home is focused on creating a community for the residents, ensuring regular staff meetings and residents and relatives meetings so that everyone can be involved in the running of the home.

Delicious and nutritious meals are cooked daily using fresh ingredients and a variety of diets can be catered for. Family members are welcome to stay for meals with their loved ones.

Please note this is a very limited review as the duration of my wife's stay was for one week only. The initial telephone contact with the owner was most reassuring, he asked me about any concerns or questions I had, and although the hospital was pressing to transfer my wife quickly, he insisted on not
accepting her until there were sufficient staff in place. My wife was very well cared for by kind and considerate staff.


The manager was always helpful, and the atmosphere in the home seemed very friendly. There was a large number of staff who all seemed to interact with compassionately with the residents.


I can't comment on 'food and drink', so I have rated it as satisfactory.

My dad went to Sunhill for the hospital. He needed palliative care. I was able to visit whenever I wanted. I was always made welcome by staff during difficult Covid circumstances. My dad received considerate and kind care. He was always clean, washed and shaved and different shirts on every day. He
received excellent care and attention. He has his Covid vaccination while he was there.

We felt the home welcomed the resident on the day of arrival and the relatives when visiting at all times. There always appeared to be a good ratio of staff to residents. There was a very nice atmosphere in the home and the staff were always friendly. The resident said he was very happy and felt he
was in a hotel.

The staff are lead by an extremely effective knowledgeable and helpful management team at Sunhill who are completely approachable and caring.
The activities coordinator is outstanding and she goes above and beyond the role in assisting all the residents with a friendly and caring manner. Outstanding!

My mother has been a resident for 2 years and has always received the utmost care and attention from all the staff. I consider Sunhill Court to be an excellent care home. Residents are involved in various activities daily. Nursing staff are always attentive, friendly, approachable and so caring. I am
so pleased I chose Sunhill Court as a care home for my mother which reflects also in my mother's happiness and care. None of which would be possible without an excellent team and management.

From first contact with Sunhill, I was impressed. Many residents were up and about, some doing activities. All were open and responsive saying hello with friendly confidence. The atmosphere is busy and happy, like a good school. The staff were fantastic with Dad and us, from the start. They treated
him with dignity and compassion. In the sitting area, when acute residents woke or called out, they were always acknowledged with a hug or a kind word. When Dad first arrived, he was shy, one of the male staff would say hi and pat him on the arm as he passed. ‘That’s my friend,’ Dad said.


Dad’s challenging behaviour settled and he became much calmer, indeed, in his time at Sunhill, we kind of got him back. When he was dying, they made sure he wasn’t alone. They gave us a warning, we all got to say goodbye. Dad had the last rites and died holding Mum’s hand. Afterwards, they washed his face, dressed him and laid him out holding a palm cross. An act of utter compassion and humanity. A very special place.

Dementia is challenging and this care home provides wonderful care from all its staff to the residents. I have found them extremely understanding and empathetic with my mother. The carers need medals for the service they provide, in what is sometimes a challenging environment. It feels like home and
my mother seems happy and content in her surroundings.

I am impressed by the fact that Sunhill accepts positive and negative reviews.


My friend tells me that she is happy at Sunhill and that the Staff are kind to her.


I am at a disadvantage as I live more than 70 miles from Sunhill. If I was living nearer I would make a point of taking in some interesting

tidbits. From what I saw the food is very uninteresting.


Having carers from overseas is an advantage, as they come from a culture which puts great emphasis on caring for their elderly relatives, but it is important that their language skills are adequate for those who have hearing problems.


I have seen at first hand how students taking part in Duke of Edinburgh Award Schemes can help in Nursing Homes. I would suggest that a presentation is made to such students at Worthing College to help with activities and lunchtime feeding.


Judging by the skill of the Matron at organising for a Doctor to see my friend during my visit she would be the ideal person to do such a presentation!

What drew me and subsequently my siblings to chose Sunhill Court for my father, was seeing that nobody gets left in their room. Other care homes had seemed quite clinical in comparison. In Sunhill Court, the residents are all brought to the bright and airy lounge and dining room where a number of
staff cater for any needs. They accept people with varying needs and treat them all the same.
There was immediately a positive attitude towards getting my father mobile, where the hospital had totally failed. It was easy to visit, and the room my father was in (at night) had a lovely view. Staff were all caring with a sense of humour, and developed positive relationships with the residents. We were never worried about my father whilst he stayed here, which was a huge relief, and I am very grateful to Sunhill Court's owner, management and staff.

After a long search for a suitable care home for my mum, we found Sunhill Court. My mum had dementia and had been in hospital for a while. She needed somewhere with space as she liked to walk around and Sunhill Court has plenty of space and a lovely garden. The staff are very caring and patient and
do a very good job. There are lots of activities organised every day so there’s always something going on. I would not hesitate to recommend Sunhill Court.

My mother in law had spent nearly two years at Sunhill and I cannot recommend them highly enough. My m-I-l is treated with respect and dignity at all times and her needs were met at all times. There was entertainment, garden parties, birthday parties and lots of visitors, she was well looked after.
The staff were so caring towards her and us when we visited. Unfortunately, she passed away suddenly but the staff were very respectful and helpful, I thank them for all what they have done for us.

My father was admitted recently in very poor health due to ongoing Parkinsons, exacerbated by a fall and hip injury, and had then spent 12 weeks in hospital deteriorating at an alarming rate, losing a lot of weight and becoming virtually immobile, and suffering from confusion and the onset of dementia.
By
the time of admission, it also transpired he had developed bed sores, and needed to be turned every 2 hours.
The care and compassion shown by the nursing home staff in the short time he was with them was exemplary, he started enjoying his food again and put on 3 kilos before finally passing away.

Matron was always available to talk to, was very understanding and clearly runs the home to a high standard. Nursing staff were very loving and patient towards my wife. Everything good, no complaints whatsoever.

My family was nervous about Dad being moved from hospital into a nursing home, and I feel we gave the management team at Sunhill a hard time with our constant queries, checks and frequent visits - yet the staff were never too busy to take the time to reassure us and to respond to our concerns - however,
unjustified and trivial (with hindsight) they may have seemed to them at the time. Sadly, Dad was already very poorly when he was transferred to Sunhill, and he passed away just three weeks later, but during that time Mum and I visited him regularly, and usually gave him his lunch, which always looked delicious and which Dad always enjoyed. Dad had a beautiful ground floor room - with his own tv (which he had missed during his previous five-month stay in hospital), french windows, and a fabulous view over the gardens to Cissbury Ring. The carers were wonderful. Always smiling and gentle and respectful in their treatment of Dad - who was always very old-fashioned about these things.

I am delighted with Sunhill Court the staff and matron are delightful and always seem happy and never flustered. My husband now needs lots of care and he gets 100%. My only concern is that we are not always kept in touch e.g. if anything goes missing i.e. slippers, glasses, CDs. I don't know unless
I go to his room. The place is always very clean and bright. It was a good choice and not far from me. I can see the home from my own property!

The staff at Sunhill Court were extremely caring and attentive towards my mother during her final few weeks of life. The home itself is located in a beautiful setting and the Manager and staff do all that they can to ensure that it really is a home. From daily activities and entertainment to delicious
meals, alongside compassionate nursing and personal care, the service provided is second to none. In Mum's final days, every staff member went out of their way to make sure that she was as comfortable as possible and were supportive and understanding to me and my siblings.

After battling with severe stroke damage for many years mum was then diagnosed with dementia. To watch this agonising condition slowly take my mum piece by piece again was the most difficult thing I have ever witnessed. Our only realistic option was to place mum into residential care. After a previous
establishment failed her I was so grateful to find Sunhill Court nursing home. The manager and her team were so very kind and helpful throughout mums stay. Mum had a Lovely clean room with beautiful downland views,I know that she was kept clean and dignified and offered good food and experienced care every day. The home has good facilities and the staff are always attentive and patient with the residents. Thank you for making mum's last months a comfortable time.

My mother had Alzheimer's Disease and had reached the stage where she needed round the clock and complete care. She was with Sunhill for five years and in that time she was always kept clean, tidy and comfortable. Her room had a beautiful view and was of a good size with a shared wet room with one other
resident. I always found the staff to be pleasant and attentive. There was always a nice atmosphere to the home and not too big so I felt reassured that mum would get the attention she needed.

Aleks joined Kindred Care in 2017 at Warrengate and was promoted to the position of manager of Sunhill Court in 2021. We have an amazing team at Sunhill. They are so dedicated and caring and are always willing to try new things. We are one big family and we place a lot of importance on practising empathy, both towards our residents and our teammates.
