My father has dementia. The staff are always friendly and relaxed with him and are alert to his needs. I feel he is in safe hands.

I recently visited my Uncle living in a residential room and yet again, as on previous visits, I was impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff. They appeared to treat residents with dignity and respect and the Home has a "good" feel as soon as you enter. A range of activities and
outings are organised to prevent isolation and my Uncle particulary enjoyed the boat trips and the visit to Wimbledon which he still talks about.


He likes walking round the landscaped gardens which are well maintained and attractive even in February, with plenty of seats to rest on.

We recently used Sussexdown for a two-week post-operative care for my very active, independent, octogenarian father. He received excellent care throughout from my initial enquiry through to eventual discharge. The staff are really lovely, cheerful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Despite
being a sizeable care home all the staff knew his name within days, and everyone, whatever their role, engaged positively. They took time to understand and know his food preferences and often anticipated his needs - even he was impressed. It was a positive experience for which we are very grateful.

My father recently spent a year in the Princess Alexandra unit at Sussexdown, which cares for people with advanced dementia. From the very first day, until the day of his death, the care he was given was nothing less than magnificent. He was, at all times, treated with a level of love and respect which
was beyond our expectations. Care was tailored to his own personality, and his own wishes respected. At all times, my mother and myself were treated by staff as if we were family.


When Dad entered Sussexdown, we were so worried that he would be miserable away from home. Much to our surprise, he had a very happy year at Sussexdown, which he came to see as his home. When Dad was dying, the love shown to him by his carers moved us beyond words. My mum and I will miss our friends at Sussexdown very much, and I have already told my children that if I need a care home, this is the one I want!

I received a wonderful welcome when returning to the home, having left there earlier in the year. I was made to feel at home. The staff attended to my every need. The only problem I had was that the food was not always piping hot and on a couple of occasions was cold. I would highly recommend this care
home which I hope to return to in February 2019.

Sussexdown is a beautiful home set in stunning grounds. In general, all the staff from the manager, nurses, carers, cleaners, laundry, entertainment and maintenance are happy, caring, attentive and helpful.
They all seem to know the residents by name and always greet them all with a smile and a chat.
Staff keep me updated with my father's health and welfare. The only real negative is the lack of ensuite facilities.
Entertainment and trips are excellent.

My mother was a resident at Sussexdown from April 2015 until her death in January 2018. During that time she was very well looked after, with the care, activities and outings appropriate for her more active lifestyle when she first moved in and adjusted appropriately as her health deteriorated. There
is a good level of facilities for residents, including a chapel and nice grounds with a lovely pastoral view of the South Downs. My mother had her own washstand in her room but shared a bathroom.

Lynne

Lynne Hudson

Job Title: Home Manager

“I am passionate about delivering high standards of care and maintaining dignity, and I love making a difference – particularly when someone is in the later part of their life. I also have a 12 year old dog, who is thoroughly enjoying trips out in the beautiful West Sussex countryside!”


Lynne joined Sussexdown in November, just after our recent CQC report. Lynne has worked in the health sector for over 46 years and successfully managed care homes for the past 22 years, ensuring they are not only rated good by CQC but exceed resident and family expectations.


Lynne has relocated from the north of England to take on the role of Home Manager at Sussexdown, as well as being closer to her family. In the past she has run her own health and social care enterprises, worked in the NHS and local communities; including councils developing work and communications between the statutory and non-statutory sectors.


Having immediately settled into life at Sussexdown, Lynne has brought experience, stability and the highest quality of care, both medically and holistically that benefit each and every resident in our care – and judging on the feedback, their families and the team can’t speak highly enough of her either.
