Cherry Hinton Care Home is a warm inviting home offering expert nursing and dementia care to those requiring support or assistance. The home prides itself on the experienced, personalised, bespoke and attentive care provided to residents which is delivered by a team of dedicated and committed carers and nurses. Cherry Hinton are proud to announce their Hospitality Assured Accreditation 'WORLD CLASS' status along with their Investors in People Platinum award. The home is rated GOOD across all borders in their most recent CQC virtual inspection which was conducted in July 2021.

The wellbeing team are passionate about providing a range of activities, trips and events which cater to the interests of those living at the home. Whether enjoying musical, word, activity, arts and crafts or creative activities or enjoying trips to museums and places of interests, the team are enthused by offering something for everyone to suit all preferences.

The enclosed courtyard garden offers a beautiful tranquil space to enjoy, enabling all residents to wander through and take pleasure in hearing and seeing stimulating sounds and sights in different areas. Raised beds enable easy access to plants for residents to be able to touch and smell the flora and fauna, and a lovely conservatory also allows for residents to sit in comfort and look out over the garden which can be enjoyed all year around.

Quality furniture and soft furnishings are used throughout the home to provide a high level of comfort for residents and the home invests in refurbishment to maintain the standards of a quality environment. Rooms are spacious and fully furnished as well as all supplied with LCD TV. The home offers high-speed internet access for both residents and their visitors.

The home has good transport links with the city centre and the local shops.

During 2016, there were serious staff problems. As a result of this, some staff were dismissed and some resigned. This lead to a number of beds being unused. However, the staff situation has improved and some empty beds are now being filled. New staff are still being employed. Very few agency staff
now.
The situation is getting back to normal.

My sister has been in the care home for 5 years with no problems until last September when all the known carers were not there anymore. It was a real worry that no-one wanted to say anything but I am glad to say that it has been turned around with the assistant manager coming back and more carers. The
activities coordinator does a fantastic job and all is very enjoyable.

My mother has been a resident since May 2016. She now views this as her 'second home'. She loves her light, roomy, sunny room and loves sitting on her chair on sunny mornings. She describes herself as being looked after well and has developed good relationships with several of the care staff. Although
now very frail, her character still shines through and I like the fact that the staff have encouraged her to be her. We were fortunate to get the room when she needed it and was the right place at the right time.

My husband was admitted to the care home 11th November 2015. He had a brain stem clot 1st October 2015 and was rendered paralysed and double incontinent requiring 24-hour care. The management and staff have been wonderful with my husband and have shown excellent care and consideration to both of us
as sometimes I have down days as it is now 17 months and he was only given 10 months maximum. The staff are pleasant, caring, considerate and medically professional. My job was an assistant manager in a care home so I know what to expect. I cannot praise the home enough. Thank you.

The staff are always friendly when you go there. The someone takes me through the doors that need codes to get through and they take me to where a carer and resident it. They do ask me sometimes if I would like a coffee or tea and the residents are always treated with dignity.

My good friend has been a resident of Cherry Hinton Care Home for 2 years. She uses a wheelchair to get around by herself to the conservatory where she meets friends and watches squirrels antics on the bird table which is close by. There is a TV room, a spacious dining room and plenty of bath/toilet
facilities. (care workers help residents in these facilities and residents may press the call button which they wear around their neck if they require help). There is usually an organised activity every day (exercises, singing, making decorations). Books, games, newspapers are available.


There are comfortable armchairs in the lounge for those who want to watch TV. The hairdresser's room is just off the lounge and is very popular with lady residents who may have their hair washed and styled once per week.
In spring and summer, residents may go out in the garden. There is a summer fete once per year and resident may invite their friends.
The resident cat is very popular.
Outings by car to the botanic gardens are laid on for residents who are able to go. There is a church service every Sunday, to which residents are invited. 3 meals per day are very good. The home is very well organised and I am happy to provide this review.

Very unhappy with the care, especially the cleanliness of my Father is very poor. Even after discussions with the manager who gave an apology and admitted it was unacceptable, it still continues to happen. This undermines everything and has an impact on quality of life. Being clean is a basic human
right. Also issued with dignity. No privacy, not even a lounge where you can relax have a drink and have quality time with your family. There has been issues with cleanliness of the wet room as well.

I would like to acknowledge the review posted by BB with respect to her Father and his brief time with us in our home. Whilst I cannot agree with the content of the review, I do thoroughly support everyone's right to express their personal views. Equally, I am very pleased to have the opportunity to offer a frank and honest response, and to clarify some of the details raised.
As the Home Manager, I have spent many hours talking and sharing with BB, as I have done and continue to do with all members of our community, be they residents, families and their loved ones or our own team members. I did not have to apologise at any stage for the cleanliness of BB's Father, as this was not an issue. We recognise the crucial importance of cleanliness and indeed dignity to the very essence of the quality of life of each and every one of our residents, and the impact that this also has on their loved ones. It will always continue to be one of our highest priorities.
In more general terms, we are able to offer a number of different spaces for our residents and their families to be able to spend quality time together. There are two different spacious lounges, (including one with a reminiscence 1950's theme), on the first floor, and another well appointed lounge on the ground floor. These are also supplemented by a conservatory which in itself also leads to our extensive gardens offering a lovely space for all to enjoy.
Our home will always strive to offer the dignity, time, respect and the sensitive and appropriate care that our residents and their loved ones deserve and have the absolute right to expect. Equally, respectful and sensitive care is also about maximising and facilitating the choices our residents make, and wherever possible to enable and sustain that process and ability. We also understand that being forced to make a decision on behalf of your Mother, or indeed Father, to perhaps leave family care and their home, and to enter a long term care setting is one of the most emotionally challenging that can be faced in a lifetime... Let's face it, our home is welcoming, friendly, safe, secure and loving, but not the one that folks have spent perhaps the last 30, 40, 50 or 60 years in! Many people express their feelings in many different ways - we get it.
Suffice to say, we are pleased to be able to 'set the record straight', and continue to assure all our residents, their families and loved ones of our total and honest commitment to real quality, real care, and making a real difference to the lives of real people.

My mother has been resident for 4 years at Cherry Hinton. She is treated with respect and dignity, the staff are always talking and joking with the residents. They have activities most days of the week which are varied and designed to stimulate them. Thew food is varied and served in pleasant surroundings,
giving the residents further chance to mix and meet others. I would recommend this home to others and would say it is one of the best in the area.

The home is on two floors. The ground floor, Florence, caters for the more active residents and the first floor for residents with greater needs including dementia and a small palliative care unit. The staffing levels are higher than other similar homes locally, so this is a good choice for residents
who need a lot of support. The staff are unfailingly kind to my mother and there are a lot of activities . There are visiting entertainers, exercise to music and a hairdresser and nail beautician. A local GP does a ward round every Monday and the Hospital is just down the road if anything goes wrong. The only niggles that there is a lot of staff turnover so some of the staff who befriended Mum when she first arrived three years ago are no longer here and she has had to get used to new ones. Food is good with several choices at each meal but the food is often warmish rather than piping hot when served. This is a good choice if your relative has high needs especially dementia.

No complaints as of yet (maybe never). Dad has only been here three months. All the staff are approachable, helpful and appear very professional in their dealings with dad. Cannot thank all the staff of all pay grades for working as a team to make dad and the families experience at this hard time as
pleasant, as I feel it can be all considering, i.e good food, clean and tidy and generally friendly atmosphere. Thank you.

All the staff, management, admin, nursing and care assistant, cleaners and kitchen staff are all very helpful and friendly. My only issue is that at times there are no staff available to help with things like taking dad to the toilet. This is not because the staff are unhelpful or standing around chatting-
just that there are not enough of them.

My father settled quickly. The staff have been helpful, friendly and efficient. The room is a good size and is kept clean. There is a good choice of menu but sometimes the food is not hot, which is disappointing. There is a good variety of activities and they seem well organised. The management team
have been helpful and sympathetic. Taking everything into account I would say I am happy with my fathers care and would recommend this care home to others.

I worked as a Registered nurse in various settings for 8 years and worked as a Care Manager for the last 5 years. Caring is my passion and I worked my way up from being a carer. I've been promoted as Home Manager from February 1st 2021. In my role, I make sure that all our residents are getting high-quality, person-centred care based on their needs and preferences. Also, support all our residents to maintain the quality of life by preserving and promoting independence. I have a very good team of highly motivated and skilled nurses and carers to support me to ensure quality of care to all our residents.
