St Georges Court is a 76 bedded care home providing person-centred care for adults aged 65+, including those living with Dementia and those with nursing needs.

Situated just off of Hills Road, the home is within walking distance of the town centre, which hosts a wide range of shops, churches, restaurants, and other facilities. The local railway station is situated within a 5-minute walk and a good local bus service operates closely to the home.

St Georges Court is divided into 3 units over three floors. All rooms are single occupancy with 52 rooms having en-suite facilities.

Each unit has a dining area, lounge and a kitchenette as well as bathrooms, shower rooms and toilets throughout the home. The upper floors of the home are accessed by stairs or lift. All areas of the home are accessible for wheelchair users.

St Georges Court provides:

My mother requires full nursing care with particular care to skin and pressure areas. She always looks well cared for and comfortable. The staff are kind and gentle with her.

Our Mother was a resident for just over four years and was very happy at St Georges Court, the staff were always friendly and caring. Mum enjoyed the lively entertainment that was arranged by the home and also the outings. Mum celebrated her 100th birthday, and management and staff all wished her
well with a party and lovely cake made by the chef. Mum was treated with kindness and respect in the last days of her life and that was extended to us as a family.

My family and I were very satisfied with the care provided to my mother who was in the dementia unit at St Georges Court for over 6 years. The excellent manager has been able to put together a superb team of carers who always carry out their work in a friendly and cheery way.


The home employs a full-time

entertainments co-ordinator, who puts together a varied range of activities. The activities range from craft and reminiscence activities, gardening in the home's nice grounds to visits by singers/musicians and small animal educational specialists.


A lot of money has been spent by the home's owners in recent years in upgrading, modernising and decorating the home. The result being that the home is always bright and fresh.


The food is excellent, on occasions I ate with my mother and the quality of the food was always superb.


The home was recommended to us and I would recommend the home to others.

My mother was a resident at St George's for 4 years. She wasn't the easiest personality and suffered from dementia and OCD. My father was a top medic so my mother trusted no one and makes the job of caring for her very challenging indeed. Despite needing help being blind and disabled, she remained fiercely
independent making the job of caring for her impossible. I'm full of admiration for the patience, care and support everyone gave her. They respected her wishes at all times.
It was down to her chief carer that my mother settled in when all she wanted was to return to Australia and look after herself. Over the time she was there, the management varied being excellent when she arrived and excellent when she died. Not only was the home run efficiently but the support I was given when things were distressing and difficult went beyond the call of duty. I will be forever grateful for making the last years of my mother's life as good as it could be. Thank you to everyone!

My brother entered the care home after being diagnosed with dementia. At that time he had suffered a major loss of memory that had left him seriously confused, lacking confidence, frightened with an extremely low self-esteem. Since his stay, his confidence and demeanour has improved and he is happy
and well cared for.
This was clear to me the first time I took him to a dental appointment. On returning to Russel Street he said "its St George's Court" in such a bright and cheerful manner that I knew he was happy that I had taken him "back home".
The management was also very helpful to me whilst I was trying to sort out my brother's financial affairs and never once hassled me regarding the situation which is more than I can say for another organisation.
The manager has also been extremely kind, professional and knowledgeable regarding the assistance she gave me whilst successfully applying for his attendance allowance mirroring what I see from all staff from reception to his floor.

On the death of our son, I found the staff who were looking after my ex-husband, gave him extra attention and time when he had his melt-downs and talked to him about our son. I found this helped him.
Also, management and staff even found time to see if I was OK. These small things to them made a big
difference to my ex-husband and myself.

My experience after living here a few years is very positive in that I am fairly happy and still enjoy and wish to continue to enjoy life.
If there are difficulties, the staff are generally quick to sort things out if that is possible or do whatever they can to alleviate the problem. They can work
no more miracles than I can but the relaxed, pleasant atmosphere is prevalent and helps a lot.

The environment is excellent. The food is suitable and well cooked. The managers are very competent and committed and many of the junior staff are equally good. The only weakness is the poor English (especially the pronunciation) of many (or most) of the foreign staff. There have been occasions when
residents have fallen over in temporarily unsupervised public rooms.

My mother had a hard time settling into her new home, but the staff have made this move a lot easier. She loves every one of the staff members who always have a smile and good word to say to her. The atmosphere is always pleasant and as a visitor am always made to feel welcome. As a family, we are aware
that she misses her home. This is the closest that we could find to home.

The staff of this care home quite simply care a lot about the residents - showing a huge amount of patience and understanding during some very testing times. The longer you get to know the staff the more you can understand the stress that they are under - long shifts which are very tiring especially.


Each

and every member of staff, from the Manager to the domestic staff are always happy to see you - they make time to make you feel welcome like you are actually in the home of the individual (in my case my mum) you are visiting.


There is no doubt that in my mind that they are short staffed and the home will always need more maintenance than the staff and probably their budget can manage.


That said, they have given my mum a far better quality of life than I could possibly have done - she has had her moments of being difficult but you wouldn't know it from the reaction of the staff.


Quite simply, I believe they are really special.

One of the nice things about St Georges Court in Cambridge is that the resident can have his or her own furniture and pictures in their room so there can be at least a small link with their former home. He or she can also eat in their room if they wish. On the other hand, residents are encouraged to
enjoy the very varied choice of activities. These range from films, exercises, art, pottery, quizzes and games. It is certainly an advantage that the home is big enough to support a dedicated activities manager.


Finding local places to go out to is quite easy because a high street which has lots of eating places and shops is just at the end of the road. There is also the beautiful Botanic Gardens close enough to walk to (or wheelchair to). The gardens make a green and restful place to visit and even have warm greenhouses to retreat to on a cold day.
