It is my first experience of a care home and have a great admiration of Walsham Grange. I and my family have found the care given to my 94-year-old sister is so much more than we ever hoped for. The kindness and care given by all the staff is excellent and we cannot praise them enough.

Cannot fault Walsham Grange so far. My grandad is so well looked after, the staff always know what is happening with him, always have his best interests at heart, and are chatty, kind, compassionate and thoughtful.
Managers are absolutely amazing; this care home is obviously well-led and compassion
is at the forefront of what they do. They can’t do more to help the families also. Thank you for everything you do!

I find the care, consideration, kindness an treatment of my husband very good with kindness shown by all the staff, management seniors, carriers and domestics. This kindness is also shown to me when I'm concerned or feeling upset.

Always delighted with the care given to my dad. He is treated with respect and all staff are friendly and attentive. We never have any concerns about his care even when we are away from home but know that we will be contacted in an emergency.

Both my parents are residents and need a high level of support and care. I am very impressed by all the staff who are attentive caring kind and responsive. The home is well-maintained and spotlessly clean. When ever we have questions or concerns the staff are very responsive and collaborative. Would

The staff at Walsham Grange looked after my Mum so well. She'd lived with us for 18 years but I just couldn't do it at the end. She was poorly and bedridden. She loved it there. She made friends with all the staff, she loved and praised all the nurses.
I am sure they genuinely cared for her too. Everyone
was kind, friendly and welcoming to us when we visited and I will miss coming over.
The food was good and my mum always had what she fancied.
Her clothes were well laundered and looked after.
Any of my queries were always dealt with quickly and efficiently and I felt a really good system was in operation in the background keeping track of everything that was going on. Records and information are easily found and questions are answered immediately.
Thank you for looking after her until the end. We are very grateful.

Father entered Walsham Grange Care Home a couple of months ago as he needed 24-hour care. I had heard some negative comments over the years about Walsham Grange. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The staff have been very kind and helpful. Food always looks good and liquids are always available for
residents. I'm particularly grateful for the activities and company he gets.
His personal care has improved vastly since he went in, including a haircut and shave and I have noticed he has a change of clothes regularly. Again, something which was lacking with his previous carers.
The room is kept clean and tidy.
The building needs some updating but that has already started and I gather is ongoing.

The interior of the care home could do with some TLC and if that is your priority then maybe this isn't the care home for you. But my experience has been nothing but positive with staff who care and go the 'extra mile' as far as I was able to see. My wife transferred to Walsham Grange after a month
in hospital. Her prognosis wasn't good and her dementia had deteriorated during her stay in hospital. She was neglected badly in hospital with no help at mealtimes so lost a lot of weight. The WG staff I had dealings with tried so hard to coax her with small meals and and real efforts with hydration (which the hospital did not). They also acted quickly when it was necessary to call in paramedics and doctors. Sadly my wife passed away earlier this week but thanks to prompt action from the senior carer, my daughter and myself were able to get to her before she finally died. And they made sure a member of staff sat with her until we got there. Thank you is all I have but it is heartfelt.

My mother went to Walsham Grange on a temporary placement and ended up being there for five weeks whilst awaiting assessment. Initially, I was concerned as it is a little run down in places however I knew what was important was the care my mum received. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how
lovely the majority of the staff were. Whenever I made a request for something i.e. to book a chiropodist for mum, to have her hair washed etc they always did what I asked. They were also very sweet with my mum as she suffers from dementia and so she was quite distressed a lot of the time and they really did go out of their way to help calm her. As I did not know how long mum would be there for I was regularly contacting the home to help move things along and I’m sure I was a real pain for them but I have to say the support I received from the management and senior team was excellent, and for which I am very grateful. A particular thanks to the manager for helping me get mum home.

When visiting a relative I found the staff friendly and helpful. But the actual care home I think could do with decorating and the cleanliness was not the best either. I was disgusted with the way she was given her dinner just brought to her and left on her bed.

Thank you for submitting your review, it is always good to receive feedback.
There are areas of our home that are in need of redecorating, we have a programme that we are working through to get this done. Our residents have been helping us to choose the colour schemes and themes.
With reference to the lunch, it was served like this as requested by your auntie.

My father has bedsores and is unable to feed himself. Not much help seems to be given. Food I know he won't or can't eat is left for him. I have pressed the alarm before when he was choking and no one came before he stopped by himself. I have found him laying on wet bedsheets, because of spilling drink.
He can't manage on his own.

My mum, who has Dementia, has recently been staying in the home for respite care for a few weeks and whilst she seemed settled, I found it very difficult to get through by phone to speak to her as there is only one phone between the residents. My mum has now had to be moved to a different home on a
permanent basis and when my sister went to pick her up, my mum was sent out in just her slippers and no socks in freezing weather. She didn’t look as if her hair had been washed and half her things were missing or she had someone else’s, such as her nightwear. I had sent flowers to the home for Christmas which had not been put in her room nor did she leave with them? I think improvement is needed.

Thank you for leaving your review. We welcome any feedback, whether that is positive or negative, it helps us to improve the service we provide our residents.
Apologies that you were disappointed with the care your mum received. If you would like to discuss any of the issues you have raised in more detail, I would be happy to discuss them with you directly.
We delivered the flowers that came here for Mum to her new home ourselves, I do hope that she was able to enjoy them.

My dad, changed care home during the Covid-19 pandemic having not got the care required elsewhere. We can only compare the two homes and Walsham Grange we can't fault, the loving care and attention received was excellent without exception.

The staff at Walsham Grange are caring for my mother very well. She has settled in extremely well. Obviously coronavirus and all the restrictions have made spending time with her and helping her with daily needs, impossible. Our weekly visits and Skype connections are much appreciated though.

We came to see our parents today. What a shock I have never seen the entrance in such a disgraceful state. There was half eaten toast in a plant pot, cigarette butts over the floor and rubbish in the other pot near the door. The final straw was that mum and dad hadn’t had a bath for five weeks! This
is unbelievable - something needs to be done. It was never like that when the previous manager was there. I will be following this up with their social worker. Not happy.

Our mother has been at Walsham Grange for the last month following a hospital stay. This is a big step for her to move to residential care and we are extremely impressed with the way she is being looked after. The staff have been very helpful, caring and supportive.
Mum has a nice room but is also
able to use the sunny dining room, lounge and conservatory. There is now a new team organising varied daily activities which will be great for her. After a lifetime of being very independent Mum has settled in really well and we would happily recommend this home.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.068)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.068) out of 10 for Walsham Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.901 for Walsham Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (73 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.901

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.167 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Walsham Grange Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 15 = 0.467

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
