During the month of October there appeared to be a significant turnaround of staff which I imagine did not allow residents to gel with individual care staff. That said, I found the staff attending my wife to be excellent in every way.

Purely from my own observation, and I apologise if I am at fault

here, but I felt that it would be appreciated if the manageress were to be more visible.

Whilst cost must be a key factor in staffing levels, one sometimes had to search for care staff over weekends.

Up to six months ago they had regular staff but now have so many agency staff which change so frequently. My mother has some dementia but likes to see familiar faces.

Staff always friendly and make you feel very welcome. Residents seem to be very well cared for, lots of tea and coffee on the go plus a wide range of regular meals. As regards to the home itself, some of the rooms look a little tired and well worn and some without windows or private bathrooms. We were,
fortunate, my Mum had a room that had just been decorated so all is well.

My mother's room offers her the level of privacy that she likes whilst giving her the ability to socialise and join in activities as much or as little as she wants.

The weekly hairdressing offers a lovely pampering for my mother.
But most of all, the reception, administrative and care staff couldn't

be more helpful and friendly.

I am very pleased overall, with everything. My twin aunts have been here for 3 months now. One was very down and depressed when she first came but is so much better now with all the care and attention she has received. Much more like her old self now.

Mum went into Walsham Grange in November from hospital in a very poor state. The Grange worked very hard to improve her quality of life. At this time, we thought it would be for the long-term but dementia took its toll and it was not to be. Leading up to her final days, the care and support of all the
staff both to mum and the family was of the highest order.

In my experience, I have always found the rooms are always clean and tidy. Meals are well prepared and varied. Staff are very pleasant and kind. All in all, everything appears to be satisfactory.

I try to visit my father at least once a week. He is in the advanced stages of vascular dementia. I have been appointed by the court of protection as his legal deputy.
My experience regarding Walsham Grange is positive. My father's room is always clean and tidy, the care assistants do genuinely seem
to care for him.
He is always clean and presentable, although I know he can be, at times, uncooperative - bordering on aggressive.
He now shows no sign of recognition, even of myself - being his regular visitor.
The must be a difficult experience for staff on occasions. Unfortunately, father understands very little, is bed bound and doubly incontinent.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.068)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.068) out of 10 for Walsham Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.901 for Walsham Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (73 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.901

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.167 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Walsham Grange Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 15 = 0.467

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
