Clarence House makes the most of a Norfolk coastline location, with much of the accommodation having sea views and filled with homely comforts.

Originally a renowned hotel, the home now caters for residential clients and has benefited from a newly landscaped sea frontage, providing access to the grounds for those residents able to take advantage of the short walk.

Current developments at Clarence House include; new carpeting, re-decorating, upgrading of the communal areas, including the bathrooms with improved bathing equipment and a programme of improving the existing parking area.

The dining room is bright and cheerful, with views out to sea, and the kitchen has gained an excellent “scores for doors” rating of 5 from North Norfolk District Council.

I can not thank the staff enough at Clarence House, my mum spent 6 weeks with them, her care was outstanding. Every member of staff is caring, thoughtful, and professional, they did their very best for her. I was always made welcome, kept up to date with any concerns. The building is old but very clean,
the residents all seem happy and cared for to a high standard, I had my worries when making the decision to admit Mum into a home, I need not have worried.
They looked after my mum very well, I will be forever grateful.

My wife transferred to Clarence House six weeks ago. During her stay, she has begun to feed herself again, after not doing so for the last two years. Her general demeanour has improved noticeably. I feel that the improvement is due to the general routine at Clarence House and efforts of staff to engage
with the residents. The staff at Clarence from management through to laundry, kitchen, housekeeping and the excellent carers do their best to meet the needs of residents. Clarence House is very pleasing on the eye, with an excellent location. Rooms are an excellent size and everywhere is immaculately clean.

Prior to entering Clarence House, my husband was living a solitary lifestyle. Since then, and with encouragement from the carers, he has been enjoying meals and activities with the residents. His weight has increased due to the excellent food he receives, and he is enjoying the interactions with the
other residents. His room is very comfortable. The house is very clean; however, the decor is dated but is familiar to the elderly folk, so it is not a problem.

My father has been a resident for about 19 months now. Staff are friendly, polite and work really hard, even when under pressure. The staff have always addressed any concerns myself and other family members have had. The home feels like one big family and feel when I visit I'm included. They host special
events that family can come along to, the fireworks last year were amazing and a great night for everyone. They have always contacted me with any issue with my father and made me aware. I can honestly say it's a lovely, warm and inviting home.

My Uncle has been in Clarence House for two weeks now and already I can see an improvement in him. He desperately wanted to return home after a long hospital stay but sadly it wasn't to be. I was apprehensive about how he would settle but I really had no need to worry. I live 150 miles away and it's
so reassuring to know he is in safe and caring hands. The staff at Clarence House are amazing. Nothing is too much trouble for them and you can see that they really care about their residents. There are lots of activities taking place and all of the residents look happy. He completely lost his appetite when he was in hospital and the staff are going above and beyond to cater for him.
Big thank you to all the staff for your thoughtfulness, compassion and hard work.

My mother has quite involved care needs. She has severe dementia but is physically perfect and extremely mobile. As a result she can get herself into lots of trouble and very quickly. I looked after her for two years and I know how difficult she can be to keep out of harm's way. The team at Clarence
House were able to identify her specific needs very quickly, they allocate a staff member to be with her during all her waking hours, they care for her and are doing a better job than I ever could. They have dealt with her incontinence needs and she is now using the toilet. That's the first time she has done that for three years now, I never managed that during my care. Clarence House are fighting her corner with the social services to ensure her assessments are accurate to her needs and that she receives the care she needs. They are also thoroughly nice people. The place is clean, they treat all with kindness and respect. It feels like an English hotel from my childhood.

My 91 year old aunt spent the last week of her life at Clarence House before finally being admitted to hospital where she passed away on April 15th. I cannot praise too highly the staff at Clarence House - all of them are kind, compassionate, and treated my aunt with respect and dignity, even when she
was irritable! The home really feels like a home, not a hospital or a prison, and it doesn't smell bad like some others do. The sea views are very uplifting and give Clarence House a genteel feel - you can really see why it was once a hotel: what a lovely location. I would have no hesitation in recommending Clarence House to anyone looking for either respite care, like my aunt, or longer term care, and I would certainly consider it myself if and when I needed care. Thank you very much to the staff who helped care for a very frail old lady whom I loved very much.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.394)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.394) out of 10 for Clarence House Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.840 for Clarence House Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (69 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.84

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.554 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Clarence House Residential Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.2 = 0.854

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager

I started my first role with Cephas in 2017 as a care and support worker and was made a senior member of the Team in 2018. I was given the opportunity to be deputy manager at Clarence House in 2019 during which time I am proud to say the Team successfully achieved a CQC rating of ‘Good’. I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the Clarence House Team again, as Care Home Manager.

I also have experience working in a variety of care settings both as an agency worker and Deputy Area Manager for a major Health and Care Provider. I am passionate about delivering excellent hands-on person-centred care - it will be our mission to give every resident the best experience while Clarence House is their home.

Outside of work, I have two dogs who keep me very busy, and I am also a keen cook, so always happy to help out in the Clarence kitchen!

Job Title: Deputy Manager

I have been in the care industry since 1992, where I trained as a Staff Nurse in South Africa and then worked for 12 years in the neonatal unit before moving over to the UK. I did a little bit of live-in care until my family joined me, then completed a few years in community care. For a short period, I left the care industry to try different things but missed the care industry so returned and continued within community care for about 9 years off and on. I loved going into people’s homes, assisting them, and getting to know them. I went to a jobs fair with my daughter and was asked to apply to Clarence House, which I did and have been at Clarence since 2019, working as a Senior on nights, then moving onto days and finally becoming the Deputy Manager at the start of this year. I didn’t think I would like to work in a care home, but I have developed great relationships with staff and residents and thoroughly enjoy working at Clarence and for Cephas Care. I have learnt a lot in the last few months and hope to learn more.

I play an online game in my spare time, where I have met people from all over the world. I have 2 wonderful children or adults as they like to call themselves! I have 2 cats and a dog who I enjoy taking for walks in the woods.
