The Gables, at Gorleston, offers residential care packages, within scenic surroundings and not far from the sea air at Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Residents have the choice to take part in numerous activities and events organised by the service, including an annual fete, with in-house hairdressing, manicures and hand massages also available.

A converted Victorian mansion, The Gables has retained much of the charm of its original architecture while being organised with comfortable furnishings in mind. A sheltered patio is popular during the warmer weather and residents are welcome to bring their own possessions.

The provider believes in on-going training programmes, though carers are employed for their personal qualities as well as their skills, in order to achieve warmth and friendliness in a homely environment.

Our stay at The Gables was excellent. Our room was very comfortable with a beautiful sea view. The staff were very helpful and treated us with the utmost respect. We were unable to take part in any activities owing to my Wifes condition but we had a very enjoyable rest. - Thank you all.

My husband is the resident and has been in The Gables for nearly 4 years and has Parkinson's and chronic mobility issues. He is very happy and content under the circumstances and gets so well looked after and every single member of staff is fantastic and we could not ask for any better.

We viewed a number of homes in the area and The Gables was the home that we felt best suited my Grandad and his needs. The support from the staff means that he is able to maintain his independence, whilst feeling confident that he has the backup available to him if necessary. He is so happy and settled
at The Gables, his room is always warm and kept clean, he says the food is excellent and he refers to the carers as his extended family.


The Gables has a wonderful, homely feel, with staff really taking the time to meet individual needs.
From my perspective, the home is a safe environment, the staff are wonderful and it is evident that they care for the residents as they would their own family. Management are great; very approachable and are happy to work alongside relatives and residents to ensure that the best possible level of care is delivered.

My mother has been a resident for about 18 months. During this period her overall health has definitely improved and her outlook on life is much healthier. The staff have encouraged her to participate in many different activities and she now thoroughly enjoys everything she does, especially as she
has found new friendships with other residents - she says she's never laughed so much! We are extremely happy with her treatment and her progress.

My Aunt and her husband have been resident in The Gables for over a year now. It was a difficult adjustment for them as they had to leave their lovely bungalow that they had retired to. It was a traumatic time for them. This was eased by the wonderful staff at The Gables. While ill health and dementia
have continued to take their toll, the staff have looked after them well. Constantly coming up with new ways to adapt my relatives care.


My Aunt and her husband have their own possessions around them and while they have given The Gables staff many challenges, the staff have met them. I am very happy with the level of care they receive. It is very difficult to care for our relatives, there is never a one size fits all solution. The Gables have a very dedicated group of professionals who constantly go the extra mile for their residents. No residential home is perfect, nor are our own homes and lifestyles perfect, but at The Gables, they do their utmost to reach perfection every day.

Mother is about to complete her first year here. I cannot praise the staff/management enough for the care given to her. I have peace of mind that she is well-cared for and she is now settled and happy. She herself says she loves being there. All staff are very helpful and always smiling.
Mum has a
lovely room which is kept very clean and tidy. Food is very good and varied. I visit three times per week and always leave knowing that mum is content in her surroundings. P.S the effort put in by all to make a truly "Happy Xmas" for residents was wonderful.

My brother was a resident in the Gables for end of life care. He was very reluctant to go into care but the staff were very patient and kind and within a short time he relaxed and began to feel at home. I felt everyone went out of their way to make him feel welcome. Apart from his illness, he had
disabilities being deaf and non speaking, his eyesight was also poor. Despite this, the staff made every effort to communicate with him and meet his needs. I feel he was well cared for and comfortable during the final 17 months of his life.

We found a very homely, friendly and relaxed home.
All staff from managers, care, catering, cleaners and maintenance were all helpful and made residents, families and friends feel at home. They gave our friend the best possible end of life care with dignity.

Mum was resident at The Gables for two years following a stroke causing incapacity to one side of her body. She therefore required a considerable amount of personal attention and I was invariably happy with the responses from the staff who were friendly to both residents and visitors. I did have some
minor issues during her stay but the management were very approachable and in general things were changed for the better.
This was mum's third such residence and I think that one has to accept that staff cannot be provided on a one-to-one basis and there are times when attention to the resident is not as quick as one might hope.
he Gables were no different from the other two homes in that matter. If our unfortunate situation was to be repeated I would have no hesitation in making The Gables my choice again.

My Stepmother and Father are not the easiest to deal with as a couple, as they will tend to interact off each other, so to get them to do anything can be trying, but the staff do try to get them to join in. The staff do have a battle to get them to look after their personal hygiene, especially when
they think they have already had a wash or that they had shower the other day, when clearly they hadn't, recently staff have managed to endure and get them to be more regular in their cleaning habits.
The team at the Gables treat My Stepmother and Father with a cheery but firm approach even when faced with a joint defence of non cooperation.
Like all places there have been some niggles but nothing that hasn't been resolved after a chat with staff, with this attitude you never feel there isn't anything that is troubling no matter how small you can't bring up for discussion.

I found The Gables to be one of the best care homes during my search in the Great Yarmouth area. My parents booked in for respite care in March and both liked it. They have now decided to stay permanently. The building and facilities are very good, managing to retain the character of a period property
with modern facilities and it has the benefit of overlooking the sea. It feels a clean and safe environment. We also find the staff extremely helpful and attentive and there is a happy buzz about the place with activities most days.

Our father was in The Gables for 5 1/2 years until he passed away from a stroke and had the best possible care we could have wished for. Although we were worried how he would react, he settled in really quickly and got on really well with the staff who were really fond of him as he was of them. He always
praised the food and said how nice it was and enjoyed having a sing a long at the activities. We truly believe he was as happy as he could be living away from home.

My mother spent 1¾ years in the Gables after a badly broken shoulder and onset of dementia left her unable to cope at home.


On arrival, her room had only just been refurbished to brand new condition and had a marvelous view of Gorleston clifftop and beach. The charges were the most reasonable of

anywhere I viewed, and taking into account the number of staff employed around the clock, all the food and facilities provided and not least the marvelous location and room, represented excellent value. Almost no one wants to leave their own home, but I can honestly say that if I really had to I'd be happy to move there myself.


Almost every Sunday I was able to join Mum for a lovely roast lunch which we occasionally took in her room so we could enjoy the views.


I have to mention the wonderful staff who really cared for Mum as if she were a member of their own family, often showing care and concern above and beyond.
