All going well. My aunt likes her home and all the staff. She is happy with the food. Unfortunately it has been difficult for everyone to get her to join the activities but she seems happy on her own. Glad to hear she agreed to go into the garden and enjoys seeing the pony/dog from time to time! Her
physical and mental health seems to have significantly improved during the past year. She seems to have mellowed and is more cooperative. I hope I can get her to see more family visitors.

In general my mother is happy but we have one major concern in the provision of meals. The food on offer appears to be plain in colour, texture and flavour. Limited selection and variations in availability of menu choices. This is not just relative to the month selected but has been the case for most
of her time at The Meadows. Sometimes the quality of menu items also is a little questionable. Opinions are mostly drawn from Mother's comments but also observations from when we have been visiting as well as looking at the menu - fish cakes and sausages seem to appear quite a lot. Seems to be an overuse of gravy with many meals as well. My final overall grading on The Meadows is based on the comments regarding meals.

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad your mother is happy at The Meadows, but we apologise for any disappointment with the meals. We take your concerns seriously and will review your concerns. Kind regards.

The Meadows Care Home in Haverhill. All the staff in The Meadows are very kind, knowledgeable and knowing. The carers know my Mum has Dementia and help her in every way they can, whether it is her personal care or chatting to her whilst on her walks along the corridor. Whenever I ask for anything regarding
my Mum whilst I am visiting her they are always there to assist. I have gotten to know the staff over the 3 years my mum's been there and they are all very supportive towards me. To the Management Team, Carers ( Days and Nights), Kitchen Staff, Entertainment Staff and Maintenance Staff a Big Thank You All.

My dad's been a resident at The Meadows for just under 3 years now following a move from Supported Living.
I've always found the staff to be friendly, caring, kind & compassionate and they treat the residents with dignity and respect.
Everyone from the Managers, care team, domestic staff and activities
coordinators go that extra mile to ensure the residents are happy, clean and entertained.
Meals are eaten together and there is a full timetable of varied activities and visiting performers for the residents to join in with and socialise together, run by the friendly activities team.
Dad's room is always clean and tidy, his bed's always made and residents are encouraged to decorate their room with their own pictures, photos, small bits of furniture etc to make it feel like home. He always seems happy and certainly enjoys the full range of activities on offer to the full!

The carers are amazing they treat everyone with dignity, and kindness, and are always friendly. The care home seems to provide nice meals. Personal care is always good. They also try and stimulate the residents with games, art, music, and singing. My lady/friend can sometimes be very outspoken but the
carers do not take it personally they still give excellent care.

We are truly touched by your words. Providing a warm, and homely environment for the residents is our utmost priority. We are delighted to hear that she has settled in so well. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

My mother is well cared for generally, and we feel confident to leave her.
Food needs a little more choice due to her restricted diet, but staff usually find something suitable.
Access to a GP seems a bit hit-and-miss, but this may not be the fault of the home.
Very nice and friendly atmosphere.

Cannot fault the home, at all times look after everyone very well. Care staff are more like friends than staff. I do think it's a lot of money per week to look after a little old lady.

My father was in the Meadows for respite during December, I was very impressed by the care my father was given by all the staff, in the past he has stayed at another home but never settled, he was always agitated and very unhappy, but the care he received at The Meadows was exceptional, he was calm,
content, and smiling, this was a great relief to the family. I think my father expressed his feelings well, when I asked if he was ok at the home he said, yes, I feel free to do what I want.
The staff showed him respect, gave him dignity in his care, and acknowledged his independent nature. My father was not just another person but an individual and they treated him so.
The Meadows is most certainly very special, their staff are exceptionally caring people, and although I live a long distance from my father and the home, I would not hesitate in choosing this home should he need long term care. My dad is now back home, stronger and happy and this is all down to the care of the staff at The Meadows.
I cannot thank them enough for everything they have done for my dad. THEY ARE SIMPLY THE BEST.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.093)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.093) out of 10 for The Meadows is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.375 for The Meadows is calculated as follows: ( (46 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 104 Ratings = 4.375

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.718 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Meadows is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 = 0.818

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
