Although I have indicated 'Good', I think the standard in all aspects is 'Very Good'. The management staff are helpful, efficient and friendly. The care staff are helpful, compassionate, and understanding and are thoughtful and provide little personal touches showing their care for the resident.

We (including relatives) were never disappointed with the standard of care, and cannot praise carers and nurses enough - the rapport established with the resident was much appreciated and the help from everyone able to visit the resident in the final days.

Mum was admitted at a difficult time due to the pandemic, so is hard to review fairly. They welcomed her and the accommodation was good but smaller than we'd hoped for. She previously had temporarily stayed at another care home until a place was free and there the facility was much more modern. The
technology at John Wills House The Willows is not good and the staff don't appear to have the time to help (perhaps understaffed?). In all okay, but could do better.

Well-run and compassionate. Nobody likes to see their relative in a care home, but I don't think you could ask for better. Excellent understanding of dementia, the attitude is consistently we see the person and not the illness.

My husband is happy and settled here. He arrived here from hospital having lost a lot of weight and exhibiting very challenging behaviour. He enjoys the food here and all the staff are lovely.

My mum was admitted to Beeches at John Wills House in April 2019 for end-of-life care. Following several months of dedicated nursing, she rallied and was moved to Willows for long-term nursing. All rooms are comfortable, well equipped and always spotlessly clean. Her care throughout has been outstanding.
Daily personal and medical care and nutrition are excellent. Mum is happy, feels safe and greatly values all the staff such as management, nursing and housekeeping, who are kind, respectful and responsive to all her needs. In her words “They are my family now.” Throughout the very stressful months of the Covid-19 pandemic, all the John Wills House staff have been amazing. Leadership has been exceptional and at no time, especially during the long months of closure to visitors, have I felt concerned for mum’s well-being. For this, I'm eternally grateful. Staff go above and beyond to create many special times, all of which make John Wills House a home in the family sense of the word, not just as an establishment. Thank you all.

I came to John Wills House on the morning of 29th August 2019 by Ambulance from Southmead Hospital. I remember crying that I wanted to go home. This was not possible as after a fall my then Care Company had pulled out. I have been in John Wills House for almost 6 months and I have to say it has been
a wonderful experience. All the staff are amazing and are dedicated to their jobs with a very empowering ethos giving you your independence and choices. The food is fantastic and nothing is too much trouble - if you want something a little different, you just ask. I had occasion to be unwell during my stay. I had the flu - not at all pleasant but I received very efficient care and recovered quite quickly. I am approaching the final stages of my time in John Wills House but I would like to thank all members of staff and I highly recommend John Wills House. Thank you all I will miss you greatly.

The care I received was first class. They could not do enough for me. Nothing was too much trouble. A very happy atmosphere. I found all the staff very jolly and caring. I would strongly recommend John Wills House, Westbury Fields.

My wife’s brother was omitted to John Wills care home on 2nd February. He was quite poorly, but in ten days he was feeling happy and was very comfortable. The staff there are fantastic and friendly, and very caring to the patients.
The staff has an extremely caring attitude and a strong commitment
to their work.
We walked into the building and the receptionist was very polite and friendly and gave us her time to help us.
We thank all the staff for their care and friendly attitude, it stands out.

It was my first visit to John Wills House care home to see my mum, who was taken here after being in the hospital for several weeks. I had to write this review as I couldn't believe how helpful and lovely the staff were. As soon as we arrived we were offered a cup of coffee and even allowed to take
in our small dog that my mum loves to see. Mum's room was spacious and homely and they seem to really care about their patients. Mum loves the food which is cooked at the home and said it is just like a hotel. After having a really stressful time with mum having to go into hospital several times, I can relax for the first time knowing she is safe and being looked after by kind and caring staff.

This review relates to the care of my Mother in The Orchards, the dementia wing of John Wills House. My Mother has lived at the Orchards for just over two years, during which time her care needs have changed considerably. I have been extremely pleased with the care that she has received. The staff are
wonderful - caring, kind, patient and responsive to her needs. They make great effort to get to know and understand my Mother, in order to treat her as an individual. The staff are also alert to the needs of the family members who visit my Mother. We are always made to feel welcome and are well looked after while we are at The Orchards. This helps to make visits more pleasant, as it is not easy to see the effects of dementia on a loved one. I highly recommend this care home and, more broadly, other services that the St Monica Trust provide.

I have been working for the St Monica Trust for over 25 years. I have been the Care Home Manager at John Wills House since August 2013.


My passion is to provide a home for our residents where they can enjoy later living and remain a part of the community. We have the ethos that John Wills House is a family and everyone in the family has a say in how the family home operates.

I have worked at John Wills House for over 16 years, starting as a registered nurse and currently as a deputy care home manager of the short-term care unit.


My earlier career was in acute care, but once I made the decision to come into social care, I knew I had found my passion. Our residents are at the heart of what the team do, and to see our residents achieve their own personal goals with the support of our therapy team and return home is great to be a part of.
