Ambleside looked after our dad with such care and dignity always making sure he was comfortable and happy even though it wasn't always easy. As a family, we really couldn't have asked for more, the staff were always so kind and supportive with lovely smiles to greet us and always an offer of a hot drink.

All of the staff at Ambleside were so kind and looked after my mum so well that I felt they genuinely care and made friends with her. They were always respectful and treated her with true dignity, sitting with her and holding her hand. I felt supported that they would be there for her in the times between
my visits and I am forever grateful to all of the staff for that. Thank you so much, your care and love was so appreciated.

My mum was a resident at Ambleside from May 2022 until the end of February 2023. The care she received was 2nd to none. Their eagerness to find solutions to every problem my mother had was unending. The staff did everything in their power to keep my mother happy and comfortable at all times even in
the worst circumstances as she progressed to end of life. The staff were incredibly attentive and unbelievably kind and caring. The chef visited each day and try to provide anything my mother would ask for to eat. Occupational health was paramount at all times and everything was done to encourage my mother to keep moving and enjoying life. In her last days when my mother was suffering greatly there was nothing they would not do to try and ease that suffering. In the last two days, she had 24-hour company and care. She wasn’t left alone for a moment. Ambleside have my deepest gratitude!

My brother needed some time in a nursing home to get back on his feet again and social services arranged for him to stay at Ambleside. They took such good care of him, the service was excellent. He was able to return home and live independently because of the great care they provided. The staff were
always very welcoming when we visited and kind to my brother, treating him with dignity and respect.

Very pleased with all aspects of care given to my mother since her admission in August 2018 to the present day. All nursing care assistance, food and drink and personal care are excellent. Constant, regular checks to Mother every hour or so. Overall, excellent care.

Ambleside is a small friendly home near to Grove Park and the seafront. I was so pleased that my mother was sent to this home. I cannot praise the staff enough for the care mum received. They were so kind with special treats on her birthday. My mother always said she was comfortable and enjoyed the
food and staff. Distant family were always able to contact via video links with the staff help. The medical help received was always excellent, and we were contacted with any issues.

My wife had been suffering from a combination of posterior cortical atrophy and advanced-stage Alzheimer's disease and had been in the care of Ambleside since October 2017. During that time she was completely immobile, unable to move her limbs voluntarily, incapable of communication, and needing to
be fed via a straw - a very slow process needing much patience on the part of the carer. The level of care given to my wife by the team was outstanding, from the preparation of food suitable for ingestion via a straw to the regular cleaning, turning, and comforting necessary for her wellbeing. Compared with our previous experiences in various establishments, Ambleside was a revelation, demonstrating that good care, compassion, and willingness to listen and act on my occasional requests could not only be possible but could be provided with evident pleasure and courtesy. I could, at last, relax and know that my wife was in exceptionally good hands.

My mother was a resident of Ambleside for 10 months. When she went into Ambleside she was deemed end of life. During her time the nursing care she received was excellent. The staff were always polite and showed great empathy. During her last few days of life, they were very attentive even though my
sister and I were present. There was a member of staff with her when she passed away. I would strongly recommend Ambleside.

The staff have been so helpful and caring to both myself and my mother-in-law. Due to being so happy, her symptoms which show when she is unhappy or stressed have improved. They always have a smile and do what they can to make my mother-in-law's life happier. They even 'Whatsapped' a photo of my mother-in-law
in these restricted times. They listen and offer advice when requested. Food is fab according to my mother-in-law but not tried myself. So so pleased they took her under their care at a time when due to Covid it was difficult to get accepted into a home.

My father went to stay at Ambleside Nursing Home from the hospital on end of life care. From the moment I rang to speak to the manager to the day my dad passed away, we received the most excellent care anyone could receive. The staff are amazing, polite and very caring, they gave Dad 7-weeks of the
most fantastic care, with his dignity always top of the list. I don't think they could have done anything more to ensure my dad passed away feeling care and love.

My brother came into the home at the beginning of May. I had never been into the home before that and wow it's an amazing home. They've looked after my brother 100% and his family and also have been very informative of his care. All staff are so so kind, no faults whatsoever.

Covid-19 has been hard. I live in Leeds and travelled down to see my dad. He is currently on end of life. The staff have been such a help, supportive and understanding, talking to me, explaining all procedures that were taking place. Truly a great time. Many thanks.

Dad was only in the home for a few weeks for end of life care, at first, I was very worried about what was going to happen. But the staff put me at ease and looked after dad wonderfully he had to have one to one so was never on his own and the staff promised he would be in no pain at the end which he
wasn't so I can't thank the staff enough.

My father was referred to Ambleside for end of life care. From the moment we arrived he and we, as family, received exceptional care. They treated Dad with dignity and kindness and kept him safe through his final days. They afforded us lots of time to remain with him day and night and remained bright
spirits for all of us throughout. We are grateful for their knowledgeable guidance every step of the way to a peaceful end for Dad.

Although I was unable to visit the home because of the Coronavirus, my sister and her husband seemed quite happy and settled there. The staff was very pleasant and helpful each time I rang and seemed very experienced in their work. Unfortunately, my sister and husband had to move out of Ambleside on
6th April to a residential home as they didn't need nursing care.

The nursing staff at Ambleside are second to none, always pleasant and a smile and a kind word for all the residents, with patience to match and will bend over backwards to help you.
The carers are also a happy bunch of people, trying to keep everybody happy and so forth.
They are always polite and
smiling, even when tired, as both carers and nurses work long hours.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.056)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.056) out of 10 for Ambleside Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.681 for Ambleside Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (35 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.681

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.375 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ambleside Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 4 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
