Clarence Park Nursing Home is conveniently located near to Weston-super-Mare's famous seafront. The home was extensively refurbished throughout and extended to include the Parkside Suite in 2004. Clarence Park is registered to care for 42 older people with nursing needs. The care team and registered nurses provide care 24 hours a day to assist and meet individual needs, with patience, kindness and understanding.

The property overlooks the lawns, flower beds and mature trees in much loved park from which it takes its name. Residents at the home can keep active and involved with the program of informal and organised events provided by the activities co-ordinator. Professionals recognise the need for meaningful activities for people living with nursing needs. Activities are built into all areas of life in the home, helping to stimulate residents and promote self-esteem and a sense of well-being. The smiling faces in the home's popular newsletter "The Clarence Herald" are testament to the fun the residents have.

Quite happy with care and support. The majority of staff and management good. Able to speak openly and get a response. Most of the food and drink is good. Sadly staff need to feed me - no problem. My room is well suited for my needs.

Knowing from previous knowledge - family choice to choose this home and generally happy with how brother in law has been treated and looked after. Our rapport with staff and management is good, able to discuss or agree on daily experiences. His personal care and treatment is very good. The control of
his health and medication has been questioned and an ideal agreement sorted.

After two hectic weeks in the hospital with moves to different wards, the warm welcome I received as I entered your home for a period of respite care before returning to my flat, gave me such a reassuring feeling. Everyone made me feel welcome and they were ready to help, and monitor my health and all
my needs. Knowing there was 24-hour care and excellent response when using the call bell, was so important and appreciated. Well done to Clarence Park - you are much needed and thank you from a grateful guest.

Very impressed from day one - in particular at the speed in which my mother was able to be admitted, initially for emergency respite care, but now probably as a permanent resident. All carers, nurses and management are very kind and considerate, of those I have met, and seem to try and build a rapport
with my mother.

1. Understaffed, particularly at night.
2. Manager making exceptional efforts despite current staff/Covid problems.
3. Day staff compassionate and caring.
4. Comfortable surroundings.

Reply from Caroline Walton, Quality & Compliance Manager at Clarence Park

Thank you for your review. Staffing is very difficult currently which is nationwide. It has been difficult to cover even with an agency when people go off sick without notice. We are able to work safely with two care staff and one nurse currently with the bed vacancies we have.

This home has been the best I have encountered. It's always friendly, lots of activities for the residents to do such as quizzes, singing, word search, the list goes on. The staff are extremely friendly, I visit very often and he is always ready and he is clean, washed and shaven. The food is also very
good with bowls of fresh fruit for the residents. The manager is also exceptionally caring and always there to help and leads a great team. Very impressed.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (8.009)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (8.009) out of 10 for Clarence Park is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.169 for Clarence Park is calculated as follows: ( (21 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.169

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.84 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Clarence Park is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.465

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Teresa was born in Rainham Essex and started her nursing carer at the age of 14, volunteering at Saint George’s hospital in Hornchurch. In 1986 Teresa moved to the West Country with her family and continued working in various care homes and progressing through her career. This has included working for Notaro homes in previous years. For the past twenty years, Teresa has been nursing and managing an acute medical area. This involved working closely with a wide range of multidisciplinary teams to ensure delivery of care to a high standard.
Most recently Teresa has moved her mother down to the southwest and has reviewed her working career and felt returning to Notaro homes would provide her with the opportunity to provide the high standard of care that she believes should be available to everyone. Teresa believes in working closely with residents, their families and friends and her team members to achieve a warm, friendly and homely place to live and work at Clarence Park Care Home Weston Super Mare. Teresa has a strong family grounding and enjoys spending time with her family and quality time with her seven, soon to be eight grandchildren.
