Clarence Park Nursing Home is conveniently located near to Weston-super-Mare's famous seafront. The home was extensively refurbished throughout and extended to include the Parkside Suite in 2004. Clarence Park is registered to care for 42 older people with nursing needs. The care team and registered nurses provide care 24 hours a day to assist and meet individual needs, with patience, kindness and understanding.

The property overlooks the lawns, flower beds and mature trees in much loved park from which it takes its name. Residents at the home can keep active and involved with the program of informal and organised events provided by the activities co-ordinator. Professionals recognise the need for meaningful activities for people living with nursing needs. Activities are built into all areas of life in the home, helping to stimulate residents and promote self-esteem and a sense of well-being. The smiling faces in the home's popular newsletter "The Clarence Herald" are testament to the fun the residents have.

The staff were very cheery, helpful, and told me to get my possessions into the home as I was going to stay permanently. I was taken into hospital five days ago. A health care assistant came to my bedside to tell me that Clarence Park care home did not want me back. I was gobsmacked, phoned the home
to be told the manager would ring me yesterday. Still waiting, she was very happy when I made the staff 80 headbands to help with their masks, about 8 adult bibs. I hope they just throw these away, thank god I haven't sold my home otherwise I would be sleeping rough on the prom without my oxygen needs.

Reply from Teresa Monk, Manager at Clarence Park

We are very saddened to see that the reviewer has raised concerns into her time at Clarence Park and can only apologise for the way she is feeling. We feel, as a home, that we treated the reviewer as an individual enabling her to live the life she loved doing crafts and making her living accommodation personalised to her needs. Due to unforeseen exceptional circumstances, we were no longer able to meet the needs of the reviewer. The decision made was a difficult one to make but all notifications and communication lines were followed appropriately. We are very grateful for all the headbands that were made and given in good faith. We have continued to support the reviewer whilst she has been in hospital by safely storing all her personal belongings and property until such a time a new placement can be found. We wish the reviewer the very best and hope she will be very happy in her new home.

Friendly staff.
Can wait a while outside at weekends - a porch would be good and prevent a very wet arrival.

Very welcoming and friendly and not the usual appearance of the average care home. The building is bright, spacious and looks newly decorated. The staff work hard in whatever their jobs, in a friendly way for the needs of residents.

I have found management and staff extremely professional and caring, always paying attention to patients needs.
They are 100% at this home and makes one feel very relieved and happy to know they are in such capable hands. They are always doing social things to make people happy and I have watched
how much it helps.

My mother is looked after very well, she is so loved by every member of the staff. There are quite a few who absolutely adore and love her. She gets so much attention from a lot of staff. They are always on the go and so busy, but will always make time to chat to Mum, give her a kiss and cuddle now
and then. I have watched, and found that all members of staff and management really care for their residents. I am very happy that Mum is in the best care home in Weston in my eyes.

My wife has been cared for in the Clarence Park Home for nearly three years while she has declined with dementia. She was happy with the care that was given by the attention of the staff who she regarded as friends. It made her stay so much easier because she felt at home.

Recently she was taken

very ill and went into hospital, she was kindly visited by some of the staff from Clarence Park which gave her a great deal of pleasure. A gesture that deserves them great credit. My wife has now returned to the home for palliative care but is back in her familiar surroundings and among friendly faces.

May I take this opportunity to thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review of Clarence Park. It's wonderful to hear how your wife enjoys living at the home, and hearing about the friends she has made whilst living there. I think it's important for people to be reminded that moving into a care home can mean so much more than people often first think and strong friendships are often made and enjoyed.
I will be sure to thank the staff and share with them your lovely comments. Once again, thank you so much.

A folder of photographs of the residents has been produced to show the recent activities such as cake baking, animal afternoon, fish and chip day. This was a great idea as it kept me up to date with the activities Dad has participated in and although he had forgotten about them, seeing the pictures
reminded him and he was then able to tell me about them.

Clarence Park is a development of a large traditional house affording a variety of communal lounges with modern individual rooms for the residents. Carers and nursing staff are always in attendance ready to respond to needs or situations with humour, patience and loving concern. Residents are known
and are treated as individuals. It is reassuring to me that my wife is in their care.

I selected this care home after examining 7 others and I am glad I did. My wife has incurable cancer and is very well cared for. The staff are dedicated and competent they are all motivated and well managed. The general management of the house is excellent. I have no complaints.

Very pleased with the care my mother received at Clarence Park. Their overall attitude was one of kindness and compassion. Any personal needs seemed to be dealt with promptly and with kindness. They are very good at dealing with the whole family and we were always kept informed of any developments,
no matter what time of day or night it was. The home itself is very light and airy and is situated in a very good position, being right opposite Clarence Park and the seafront.

My mother is 104 years old and ahs been residing in Clarence Park care home for nearly six years. The home is always kept spotlessly clean, with no unpleasant urine smell, as is often the case with some care homes. My family and I have always found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful, and treat
my mother with caring, kindness and respect, attending to all her needs. Since my mother has lived at Clarence Park Care Home she has been happy and contented.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (8.009)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (8.009) out of 10 for Clarence Park is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.169 for Clarence Park is calculated as follows: ( (21 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.169

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.84 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Clarence Park is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.465

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Teresa was born in Rainham Essex and started her nursing carer at the age of 14, volunteering at Saint George’s hospital in Hornchurch. In 1986 Teresa moved to the West Country with her family and continued working in various care homes and progressing through her career. This has included working for Notaro homes in previous years. For the past twenty years, Teresa has been nursing and managing an acute medical area. This involved working closely with a wide range of multidisciplinary teams to ensure delivery of care to a high standard.
Most recently Teresa has moved her mother down to the southwest and has reviewed her working career and felt returning to Notaro homes would provide her with the opportunity to provide the high standard of care that she believes should be available to everyone. Teresa believes in working closely with residents, their families and friends and her team members to achieve a warm, friendly and homely place to live and work at Clarence Park Care Home Weston Super Mare. Teresa has a strong family grounding and enjoys spending time with her family and quality time with her seven, soon to be eight grandchildren. Teresa enjoys DIY and taking care of her dog, tortoise and fish and hates shopping so loves the internet.
